Parked on the main road in Shawforth to the SW, like the locals do. Took the NE running fp up onto Rossendale Way and followed for a short while before cutting across on access land to join a fp near the field corner. Needed to cross 2 bwf where the fp is supposed to cross. Trig can be accessed from either side of the subsequent fence. Top was in cloud so no views. Interesting collection of gates and catches on the inital fp - particularly liked the horseshoe catch. Solorichard6914/12/2023
I had an evening walk up from Millgate. A longer route up with better scenery avoiding the tracks, a more direct descent. Very boggy on the approach to the top. A pleasant spot. /Dmeltdiceburg29/08/2023
Parked off main road on Eagley Bank. Easy parking there. I spoke to a local lady and she advised to make sure the car was tucked in well as tractors come down the wide lane. Easy way up on footpaths to the top. Rain came on as we ascended but still great views and dry feet. On return we had a good half hour chat with the farmer at the farm near the start and he was very friendly and gave advice on the nearby Hail Storm Hill some of which is also his land.KevPalmer22/08/2023

Parked off the A681 and followed the fairly level track along Limers Gate to the end and then up to the trig. Lovely pond at the top. Found a geocache and listened to the skylarks before returning the same way to drive to Bolton to pick up Lucy and her mom from a theatre trip. Nice short walk for the afternoon.robphys07/05/2022

5th and final hill of the day on a route from the Rosehill House hotel in Burnley to Walsden, climbing Crown Point, visiting the Singing Ringing Tree, White Hill, Thieveley Pike and Carr & Crags Moor then dropping onto the Todmorden Centenary Way (TCW) to the A681, continuing on the Rossendale way but branching off again on the TCW with great views to Gorpley reservoir albeit misty. I continued on track that profiles around the hill gradually arriving at the summit. Descent via TCW but continued in Easterly direction over Weather hill to reach Foul Clough road then i branched off on a fp terminating at a house, went through gate climbed steep gap in their wall and went N to reach a track and then took fp down past beautiful wooded ravine with waterfall and moss cloaked trees descending into Walsden to arrive at the station.Dazingdale19/02/2017

Day 2 of a linear walk from Rawtenstall to Hebden Bridge. Day 1 was Cowpe Low, Hailstorm Hill and Top of Leach to Whitworth, where I stayed at the Red Lion (good food and beer). Day 2 was along the ridge to Freeholds Top, then on to Hebden Bridge, via Walsden, Rochdale canal, Warland, and Stoodley Pike. Good rail and bus links from Buxton and Manchester make this a great walk.Gill12/09/2016

Parking available on the main road opposite the old chapel (corner of Eagley Bank). From here follow the side road to the gate (next to a workshop). Pass through and turn immediately right to a bridle gate. On reaching the upper two farms (one with a button operated gate) there is a concessionary path leading through the gate and left into a paddock where the legal line is picked up again. This avoids the farm yard and friendly horse/sheep.moorsman11/06/2015
Start from Gauxholme (by the rail bridge)along the A681 then start our ascent throgh the base of Gorpley Clough - narrow deep green exotic with ash / oak / beech / butterflies / ferns / cascades. Out of the top across the Gorpley reservoir dam wall onto Weather hill with its brown grasses, cattle and pylons. We follow a gritstone wall to the summit past its Trig and pond. Chat to Whitworth SKYLINE walkers on Counting hill (with its aero generators under construction). As the cloud and rain envelopes us we drop down old tracks with ruined walls back to the reservior. Taking the top path we look down Goreplay Clough (an unexpected delight).briandavies17/05/2015

Pleasant enough easy walk (though 4 miles return) from near the top of A681. Stoodley Pike and Calderdale were highlights of the view- over towards Manchester would have been good as this top is on the Irwell- Calder (so main Pennine) watershed, but increasing drizzle obscured that view. Another bit of Rossendale Way after Cowpe Moss, earlier this afternoon. Looks worth exploring a bit.pwheeler17/04/2014

Climbed up from Freeholds road in Shawforth. This is on the left as you come along the A671 travelling towards Whitworth and there's a tall chimney just before it which makes it easy to spot. Follow the rough road up and join a track and its an easy 40 min walk to the top. Freezing cold and windy at the top today, with some hail, but still some good views. Must be lovely in summer.Lazylizzie09/01/2014
