From Carlton Lees Farm.lenman06/08/2023
Our 1000th hill on this database. From Carlton Lees car park, beautiful walk through lovely woodland. Very peaceful with birdsong the only sound. Saw numerous deer.Lazylizzie01/05/2023
From Carlton Lees car park (£5 if manned) for a Seventeen mile walk o the Ethel summits of Stanton moor, Harthill moor and Lees moor in just under Seven hours.WAYNE ROWLETT16/04/2023
This is on private land. Access permission sought and obtained from Chatsworth Estate Office. With E. From Carlton Lees car park (free during winter months) along track past Carlton Lees House then through gate opposite and followed forest tracks/paths/walls to summit. Very peaceful.Beeliner29/01/2023

As others room Rowsley up various tracks and paths through the wood. Small cairn on the summit wall. Back out of the wood then completed 8.5 mile circuit through Chatsworth Estate back to car park.JulieB22/08/2022
Pleasant walk up from Bakewell. Summit area is quite disappointing but there are some delightful panoramas of the surrounding area along the way.Alex C19/08/2022
Hill 1 on 3 Hill Bike Ride with Harthill Moor and Stanton Moorsteveb200628/07/2022
From church lane. Followed bridleway to calton Lees then calton house cottages. Footpath up hill to trig and summit and back down bridleway to church lane. Great walkLongwojo13/03/2022
From Rowsley. Up the bridal way as other and path to Tumulus then following plover lines, track and finally (quietly) grassy track. 7/7 HuMPN.Morters05/02/2022
Ascend from either Bakewell via Carlton Pasture or Rowsley via 24404 66970 to the tumulus at the edge of the wood at 24165 68076. Then cross two fields to gate at 24678 67862 for access to woodland trails and rides. in the second field keep the high side of the fence. Return to tumulus the same way to continue the walk. Near the summit there was 20+ deer. Horrible to see that the fly tipping is still there.Glenelg10/01/2022
Up from Rowsley as described by others along good tracks. HP near wall past the rubbishPeterD06/12/2021
Staying on the campsite at Chatsworth so walked from there. Through the grounds of the House to Edensor, up steps just after church and then FP and bridleways. Expected a track when entering woods but it was more of a wide, grass game-trail. Eventually meets up with a proper track to piles of logs. Continue once again onto game-trail and then as mentioned by others - fly-tipping etc.Meanderer23/09/2021
Up from Rowsley as most others. It seems a shame when fly tipping becomes an aid to navigation. Did find a small mound, where a tree had toppled many years ago, right on the 304 spot height. Coincidence or natural HP? Made a walk of it by visiting trig and Ballcross Hill. Return via Manners Wood.Richard Gunn16/09/2021
From Rowsley as others describe. Right of way towards tumulus. Cut off right from path. Left along power lines to track on left. Just before large timber stacks make slong grassy track to left. Fly tip in woodland.Pete West09/08/2021
From near Rowsley Church. Followed BW all the way to the Tumulus, good track a views up to this point. From here we followed the power lines to a decent forest road which then lead on to an old forest ride to the summit area near the wall. There seems to be a fair bit of rubbish dumped on the edge of this last forest ride, so much for sensitive wildlife?Jephcote8301/08/2021

Lovely sunny evening and nice run off through pastures towards Chatsworth. Approached from W. Best not to approach from E / Calton Lees since I know from planning (authorised) orienteering events here that the pheasant keepers keep an eye on the tracks up from there.davechaffey22/06/2020
Parked in Rowsley for the second attempt. On the first visit I almost reached the summit but there was an archery event going on with pretend animals being shot at. The security people turned me away for understandable but frustrating reasons. This time nobody was about.clivevilla28/01/2020
Parked to the SSE, in cul-de-sac just off Church Lane, SK254661.David Evans04/11/2019

Nice misty inversion. Quite easy from Rowsley, with Bryher and Rick.jenx14/02/2019
Up from Rowsley village with Jenx and Bryher. Possible to park up in Church Lane. Water works ongoing digging up road. Followed track and RoW all way to gate at SK 24373 67701. Then easy rides and new forest extraction road to shooting camp or the like near summit. Seems abandoned now. More direct line back down to first gate found with the access notice.nordicstar14/02/2019
Parked on the road at the old railway abutment - 255660. Good track to 244669 then up another good path before going through wall at 244675. Good forest tracks to top against wall remains. Solo.bolton07/12/2018
Parked at roadside just before remains of railway bridge at 254660 - Up lane and then bridleway to junction at 244669 - N. up South Peak Loop to gap in wall at 244675 - Through gap and then short path through bracken to overgrown track - Along forest tracks to unmarked summit by overgrown wall. (S)gerrybowes17/08/2018
Walked up with Mart and Lucky (dog) after DoE Bronze checkpointing. Followed fp then firebreak and forest roads followed by some rough walking by the derelict wall to summit areanJohn Eley12/05/2018
Sunny bank holiday walk, roughly worked out the high point, though difficult to find. Parked at Rowsley.Joel45106/05/2018
Same route, from Rowsley, as tim747's. Better than anticipated- an introduction to walking in the Haddon Hall parkland, a longer walk over to Chatsworth sometime, maybe? Today, just the hill bag, an uninspiring HP. With brother, Pete.pwheeler15/03/2018
Followed tim747 route to 2480 6755 then followed up the side of walls to the top. Descended to power lines and followed them westwards out of the wood - very wet underfoot along this bit today.Moorponder19/01/2018
Easy roadside parking down Church Lane (alt 111m) followed by an easy walk along the lane as far as the trees. Safe to cut straight up although following the forest rides alleviates the need to push through brambles. Now four stones on the top. 3.74km return. 70 minutes 244m ascent.moorsman28/11/2017
From Rowsley, parking nearly at end of the lane that leads on to the track. Haddon Estate would like to direct walkers where they want to direct them, unfortunately that's nowhere near the trig or hill top, so a certain amount of licence is to be taken. Lots of tracks shown on maps, just made it up as I went along. The top seems to be on an old, and boggy, forest ride. Very unremarkable.jonglew04/11/2017
From Calton Lees early.jimbloomer07/04/2017
As Tim 747. Half a dozen lichen covered stones placed on wall taken as summit.Eddie01/02/2017
From Rowsley on tracks and deer paths through open woodland with bramble understorey, not too bad this time of year. Summit very peaceful in mist. A somewhat indistinct high point my best bet being a few stones on the old stone wall.RichardM29/01/2017
Similar route to Tim747 although I would advise reaching the end of the wall on the permissive path and following the electricity poles. Completed at sunset which was spectacular as I left the woods.Campbell Singer14/12/2016
From Rowsley taking track traversing south west of hill , then into brambles in forest . Glad I did this in winter, and you wouldn't want to be in shorts.Mark Sims27/02/2016
1/8 First of eight (Lees Moor/Durham Edge/Shatton Edge/Bradwell Moor/Hind Low/Chrome Hill/Hollins Hill/Booth Hill)Fergalh24/01/2016
Took a track up from Rowsley. Ended up a bit too far north and then battled through brambles, nettles and ferns to a clearing at SK 2481 6758. From here I took the tracks marked on the OS map south and then south east to what I guessed to be the highest point. On the way back I retraced my steps to the clearing and then took a much easier route SW on the fire break shown on the OS map to a line of telegraph poles which I followed NW back to the bridleway.Wheelsy03/10/2015

Same approach as arranc. Last 200-300 metres ghastly. Brambles, bracken & hidden logs. No sensitive wildlife was offended in the ascent of this HUMP.ngthack05/10/2014
I started my trip at Ashford in the water and climbed Fin cop and then walked to Bakewell via fp along River Wye and then via Endcliff wood, and used track from Coombs Road to climb up through Manners wood onto Calton pastures and from there followed fp Southeast to meet fp from the North and as the fp veers off i continued on forest ride with pylon turning up a forest ride. I was wearing shorts and got badly cut but strangely i didnt put on my waterproof trousers until the last moment. The brambles here are pure evil! lol. My log shows that i did walk where the summit is located and i did find the wall with two stones on it. I got a bit lost on the way out but eventually followed the southeast boundary exiting onto fields at Sk253667 and just headed down to meet track heading all the way to Rowsley.Dazingdale08/09/2014
Fought through brambles and nettles plus abit of trespassing.thenomad26/06/2014
Finally got up this top after many years of passing nearby. Wasn't worth the bother!citygent25/02/2014
Summit crossed during orienteering event.JohnW23/02/2014
Lane and ROW from Rowsley to bend at 24475 67410. Then straight up the hill, through gap in wall, power line pole visible, R onto track, 1st L (both shown as rides on the 1:25K) Pick up marked tracks at 24810 67560. Summit could be anywhere, I elected for the couple of stones piled on the wall.tim74701/01/2013
A bit of a nasty one to get to and in truth I don't even know we reached the actual top. We ceratainly didn't find a cairn, but it was very overgrown.Ramblingbadgers11/08/2012
Calver to Darley Dale. Took Ted's route to the wall remains past the "No Public Access" gate, but returned to SK241680 via another overgrown track from SK247677 & didn't encouter any "Keep Out" signage along it.Smudge17/12/2011
From Rowsley. ROW to wall 2447 6750. E to reach a track then NE to overgrown track to ruined wall with a few stones on it. Wear gaiters.chrisbien03/10/2011
Walked up lane from Rowsley until (private) wood reached, then direct as possible to top. Trees, grass, bracken & brambles - not much fun. Should have read logs first! Overgrown track crosses top, with sections of broken wall.Aye Jimmy03/09/2011
From Rowsley - mistake. Last 500m brambles/ferns (some head high)/blackberries. Little/no paths. Horrible - advise to do in winter or follow better instructions as below.destaylor26/08/2011
Followed Ted's directions. Approached from the NW then descended to Rowsley, on a long walk from Great Longstone.davidpettit8420/03/2011
An occasionally wet day couldn't spoil an excellent walk up from Rowsley, great views up and down the Derwent Valley, and a stroll down through the picturesque Calton Houses. So what if there's not much at the actual summit...DanHolme21/11/2010
Park above Castle Hill then used bridleway thro' golf course to near Ballcrosh Farm followed Ted's route+ with GPS and some luck found the appropriate bit of wall(there are a few bits)to call the summit.Sign reads Sensitive Wildlife Area No Public Access.Dugswell214/11/2010
Ted Richard's directions are spot on. We saw some deer in the woods that are heavily labelled private etc. Return the way you came and where you turned left keep on through the wood and there is a fairly clear track down to the right of way. Very dull ssimon and co05/03/2010
From SK260658. Wandered about to make sure.summitsup15/11/2008
I approached from the direction of the nearby trig. Enter the woods, follow footpath, when it turns south keep following power lines. When you join another track turn left and at brow turn right for 200 meters. Small 3m section of old wall at poss summit.Father Ted30/07/2007
Poor summit, no views, in the middle of woods.DavidGMould07/07/2007
Parked at Chatsworth car park. New Skoda Octavia. To village and Calton Houses, through farm and gate on muddy WDP by wood and across sheep pastures. Past tumulus along wood edge on bridal path into wood. SE over gate marked private delicate wild life area to GPS top in wood by mossy wall. Passed David Plunkett with guide dog and minders.arranc20/02/2006
Sneaky sneaky sneaky ouch ouch ouch! Give us some access and make a little clearing for a viewpoint please! So disappointing considering how locally prominent it is.Jake99407/01/2006
