Parked at Flatt's Lane Country Park. Path up to road edge, across and up past 'cottage'. Pleasant woodland walk on dry rutted tracks, then over more open ground to summit. Misty, so no coastal views.LizH08/09/2023

09:00, 15 degrees, overcast then sunny, strong south westerlies (gale force later). From Southgate. Noisy start and summit area litter and graffiti ridden but in between, lovely natural woodland mainly of oak and birch. Accidentally came down a different way, going under the main road instead of over it but no big deal. A good morning workout.Wycombe Wanderer17/10/2022

From Occupation Road, Eston- we needed our street map to find the start. Then rutted tracks to the top- all dry today. The view was fabulous- very industrial but a grand scale, right over to Hartlepool. We chatted with someone who worked in the steelworks and his explanation of the landscape greatly enlivened our visit to the summit. Looking to the moors, there is a fabulous profile of Roseberry Topping. Strangely, despite having a friend who lives in Redcar, I had never been on this hill. With Petepwheeler09/06/2021
From the housing estate to the north. Great views on a sunny day.Alan Caine06/06/2021
Flat summit area has a brick tower, flag, trig and several aerials. HP grass mound at edge. Superb views over Middlesbrough to NW. Via a very muddy path from Flatts Lane Country park free carpark to SW. The restored tower was originally built to warn of invasion during the Napoleonic wars.Denise 17/12/2020
From the Flatts Lane car park on wet and muddy grooved paths churned up by motor cycles, the lower option more of a quagmire than the ridge top option. Fine views out over the industrial Middlesbrough with North Sea beyond.RichardM17/12/2020

3.8 mile out-and-back from country park car park to west, trails to road, across road then good clear path up to summit and beacon, great views from top taking in Roseberry Topping and the North Yorks Moors, the whole of Middlesbrough area across to Redcar and Hartlepool and towards North Pennines and Dales, we could see Penhill quite easily. Not many people about on this cold overcast morning. Afterwards we drove round to bag The Howe and Danby Beacon.DanTrig23/10/2020
From Southgate road steep direct route up through scruffy woods.rhalstead27/09/2020
Flatts Lane Country Park closed for Covid-19 so parked at hospital. Multiplicity of sandstone tracks so just kept heading upwards. Very slippery and loose on descent.peter4lc20/05/2020
With Jo, from Flatts Lane Country Park along very muddy track. Higher ground to SE, but probably not natural. Weather; sunny, cold wind, good visibility.amblerbob13/12/2019

Quick lunch run from housing estate near Lackenby. Aborted attempt at the marked footpath start massively overgrown, only to find access higher up to the bridge over main road. Steeply up. Great views, 35min up/down.N.Morters24/10/2018

Car park in Flatts Lane Country Park at 552168 - S. up park path for about 100m & then forked left along path to road - Up road for about 100m to fingerpost & start of narrow path through woods - Path joins wide track which provides a pleasant walk to trig point. Higher ground to East; probably overgrown remains of previous tower which was demolished in 1956. (S)gerrybowes11/09/2018

Last hill of a 2-day trip across to N Yorks. Losing the light, losing the will to live - incessant rain all day without let up and oh what a mud-fest for a path. Parked at the country park.jonglew12/03/2018

From cul-de-sac just in Eston. Ever regretted your NEDD days? Plus duel carriageway, abandoned industries, transmitters and industrial steam. One day after this age, Eston Nab will regain its former glory.Eddie31/03/2016

Parked in Eston. Had to seek local knowledge to find the footbridge. Then steep full frontal ascent past burnt out car, to interesting scramble through headwall crag. Came down a less steep path to south west, past another burnt out car. Fine imposing hill with extensive industrial views.ngthack24/02/2016
Trig is not high point, boulder to SE 14 meters away is higher. Tackled this as others from the Elston housing estate to North. Yes the climb is steep and bike worn but to pleasant evening birdsong. Path is stepped in places but steep and slippery mud in others. Half way up a horizontal 4x4 track goes through, just head on up and the path reforms. Trig, tower and small cairn with sweet momentos. Large flat boulder just beyond. Didn't see a soul, peaceful with a sleepy nightlit Middlesborough below, best time to go up probably...nordicstar30/04/2014
Best described as a litter strewn ascent involving dodging speeding cyclists, the end result being views of the Middlesbrough steelworks from a mound of decaying memorials.moorsman05/04/2014
Eston to Guisborough: Another study of winter lowland landscape from the wind shelter (chimney). Soft & frequently watery snow on the tracks made for hard going.Smudge27/01/2013
After a long walk that included Quarry Hill and Roseberry Topping, this fantastic hill really cheered me up - a great view all the way up the coast to my ancestral homelands...DanHolme31/08/2012
On east side too many Private Roads No Access. Went to Eston and parked just before bridge in estate. Than wooden steps for 1st half then path for remainder.destaylor09/04/2012

With Dad. A quick ascent from the car park to the west. A brilliant viewpoint. Nice evening sunlight as we arrived at the summit.AGWilliamson19/02/2012
Parked in Eston. Short steep ascent through woods is spoilt by litter and graffiti on summit rocks. Fine viewpoint.Aye Jimmy20/08/2011

Walked across fom the triangulation pillar at Nunthorpe Reservoir, high marked with a triangulation pillar (S4275) {Eston Beacon}. yorkie13/03/2005
I parked in Eston walked over the footbridge and made the short but energetic climb up to the trig. There are remnants of what I took to be a cable car ride half way up and at the top together with a collection of masts.Father Ted10/06/2004
fine summit, impressive Middlesbrough view, by night - my final E+W subMarilyn (OMoMow isn't one). from hsg estate to N, FB across road then FP to summitRHW06/10/2002

Parked at Flatts Lane Country Park and walked on the Tees Link. This was left early on to keep to the ridge. The summit was found amongst buildings. Great views over the steel & chemical works.garyhoney12/04/2002
Footbridge over bypass and steeply up through wood on steps and final slopes to edge of escarpment. Column not at highest point. 180 degree views of an industrial kind. 9.45.arranc11/03/2000

Solo trip from L's at Leeds.Interesting industrial views over Teesside. On a trip around N Y Moors doing Marilyns, sub-Marilyns, County Tops and even an aborted attempt on a Treble zero down jungle and crumbling shale cliffs to the coast.Chris Pearson20/04/1997
Date very approximate. Recall lots of bike tracks and amazing views of industrial Teesside!jamessteel10001/05/1984
