With V, Stephanie, Thurstan and Caroline on the SS to Cambridge walk. | laurencemorris | 07/01/2023 |
Visited after Castcliffe. I decided to cut short my planned route so just parked on the verge near the junction of Normanby road with the road leading to the radar station. I headed up Normanby road and then headed East over a gate leading directly to the Trig pillar and the alternative top to the East. I descended along a field edge to pass the radar station and then over an awkward gate back onto the road to the start. Nice to complete LIncolnshire on the highest point and rarely a Marilyn, My 175th apparently. | Dazingdale | 03/12/2022 |
Stopped in the car on a journey north. Directions from Moorsman below spot on. | richard69 | 16/11/2022 |

Day 2 of a 4 Day County Top Trip. Did Nottinghamshire and then Lincolnshire's County Top with my cousin. Great weather, with great views over flat Lincolnshire to the east. We both reached the trig not too far away from the iconic 'golf ball' radar system. Walked down into a valley before going back to the car. | DavidHiner | 20/03/2022 |

Plentiful verge parking immediately north of Acre House alongside the start of the bridleway Follow this path as far as the second hedgeline on the right. A rickety gate gives access into the field and, if you keep on the same side of the hedge along a wide field edge, it brings you straight up to the trig. | moorsman | 13/01/2022 |
SteveG | 13/11/2021 | |
Parked on verge near radar station and walked up field edge through gate (open) in the field to the left to it. Trig point on far side of perpendicular hedge at the top of the field. Section 37 complete! | Rockdoctor | 06/11/2021 |

From the walkers car park just South of Nettleton, walked back down the road to pick up the Viking Way, followed all the way until it met the track coming from Acre House, turned East to near track end where there was a bit of an old gate. Crossed over gate here and followed lovely ploughed field (with path on RHS as if he's prepared it for baggers) straight up LHS of hedge to top of field and you'll meet the trig. At the top. Reversed direction to track then along to Acre house and 1.5 mile walk down very quiet country road to car park. 5 miles round trip, all pretty quick walking, Was out for less than 2hrs. | JulieB | 04/09/2021 |

From Acre House. Permission granted by phoning land owner - helpful directions given. Climbed over wooden gate at end of second field south of AH, followed hedge to right and kept to hedge on right in next field. Trig point to left of hedge. | peter4lc | 05/06/2020 |
Circuit on a very grey day from Rothwell via Rothwell Top Farm, then along the hedgerow to pick up the top, along with several yellowhammers and hundreds of migrating golden plovers. Walked back via Nettleton Grange (very thick churned-up clay; absolutely requires wellies and a good balance) and over round the N and E of Rothwell Stackgarth. A very quiet and varied walk with some good views over the Humber in places. | jkl | 15/03/2020 |

Rather than heading back the same way I continued N along the hedge down to the RoW, but this was more visible to the farm to the NW. | Wheelsy | 03/11/2018 |

GMn with permission from a very nice farmer. | Idris | 20/08/2017 |
Normanby Top the hard way. Train from Market Rasen to Barnetby and walked back along the Viking Way. A small detour to bag the Marilyn using NGThack's route, and back on the E side of the hedge, as the field had been ploughed. Easy going on the headlands both sides of hedge. The best bit of the walk is from Normanby to Market Rasen, nice paths and good views. The last bit is through a nice forest. The bit from Barnetby to Normanby is reminiscent of Essex hybridised with Staffordshire, and the shiny new mansions would not be out of place in Northern Ireland, but there are good cafes in Caistor and Nettleton. Nettles and thistles make shorts inadvisable, and a machete would be useful when trying to negotiate the paths through maize fields. Warning: dry weather is best; would be somewhat unpleasant and muddy in wet weather. NOTE: From discussion on Facebook: the farmer who owns the fields on the Radar Station side does not want walkers on his land. Use the Acre Farm approach. | Gill | 18/08/2017 |

Parked across road from Acre Farm, in yard of huge green barn. Knocked on door of Acre farm for permission. Knew what I wanted before I opened my mouth. Advice on route & permission readily granted. Along Viking Way until it branches off. Keep straight on along track until due north of trig. Over rickety double gate (hinge end best). Keep to west of hedge line along tramlines through young barley, to trig. | ngthack | 14/06/2016 |

There isn't a public right of way to this Trig Point. Luckily for me, the farm owner was there and kindly granted me permission to walk the easy route to the top. Parked at the tower and passed through the metal gate to the west of the tower. Then trekked up the edge of the field until the end. Crossed through the hedge in front, turned left and there she was. The site, I was told, is also the position of an ancient tumulus. Nice walk on a nice day. The top is at a trig point at a field edge, on a farm (not by a public path). The approach would be from the path running east from Acre House. | AlexanderHoward | 26/08/2012 |
Top no.14. Train to Mkt Rasen via Peterborough and Lincoln, then walked to Normanby Top via Walesby and Vikings Way. A pleasant walk in decent weather, although perhaps rather warm. Most baggers approach this top from the radar stn but this involves breaking through a farmers hedge; a better route is via an old field gate on Normanby Road at TF116962. Distance 13.7 miles; climb 1223 feet; time 4.9 hours. | alan.65to70 | 23/08/2012 |
