Logged Descriptions  (logged by 655 users)ByDate of Ascent
From Burwarton followed various estate roads and muddy tracks up to radio masts and high point. Continued S to Clee Burf and return to Burwarton. Breezy but dry. A pleasant morning walk. With Gillianrichard6918/03/2024
parked with permission at the Boyne Arms in Burwarton and followed a 6 mile circuit anticlockwise. Paths through the woods on the ascent were very poor - no markings and overgrown. Descent to the south via the Shropshire Way and Boyne Water were much better. Visited the hp and then the topograph via the radio towers. With Nigel.gbeniston14/12/2023
Whilst working away from home a short evening walk on the 5th of The Shropshire Six Summits (Brown Clee). Used for navigation practice. Broken clouds, 15°C, Feels like 14°C, Wind 13mph from W, visibility >6mihiglett12/07/2023
A nice easy walk, not overly exciting but still nice.JMB24609/07/2023
Parked in off road parking facility, lots of room to park. Began walking c.14.15 and reached summit at c.15.20. Plenty of sheep all the way up so dog was kept on lead.JXNJP09/07/2023

Started from minor road at 608872 west of Cleobury North. Good parking area by roadside. Saw deer next to road! Took winding and pleasant footpath up through the forest until open ground reached near a small reservoir, where the road up to the transmitting station is joined. Road followed for last few hundred metres to the view indicator/topograph. Bit worried now that this might not be the highest ground! Happy to visit again though, as this was a pleasant hill, despite the transmitting station on the summit! Great views. Returned same way. Was with a school group doing our 10 county top challenge (continuing to Herefordshire and Worcestershire today). Sunny clear weather, but a little hazy.jamessteel10004/04/2023

In from Cleobury North, good parking at 607872 amongst the trees. Through woods, muddy at start. Near the top used the road at summit, then followed it back to Hillside farm and returned via the main road.iangalbraith26/11/2022

Parking for one car near Bank House to NW, circuit to Clee Burf. Dull, limited views and seized up back (came here on way home, abandoned plans for longer trip mid Wales). One for another visit when visibility is good.Nick Canute03/09/2022
This one is quite remote as far as county tops go in the Midlands. 15 miles drive from Telford and completely inaccessible by public transport. Parked in the small roadside parking area on the eastern flank of the hill, then walked through the gate opposite and up the footpath. Fairly straightforward to reach the summit and accompanied by lots of sheep. The views from the summit are stunning and someone has kindly installed a viewfinder, labelling features from the Brecon Beacons to Birmingham. Another walker rightly described this hill as 'one of England's hidden gems'. Also to be seen are the abandoned stone structures previously used for quarrying dolerite.hillbagger9124/08/2022
From parking west of Cockshutford via Clee Burf . Beautiful morning. 2hr returnLongwojo24/04/2022
5.9 mile walk from parking area west of Cockshutford. Along minor road through village then along stream to Five Springs and col beyond. From col we did an out-and-back to Brown Clee Hill (previously bagged in 2009), then back to col and up to Clee Burf descending mast lane back to car as the sun was going down. The light was amazing that evening and we could easily make out Welsh hills from north to south. From Cadair Idris (easily seen) down to Coety Mountain in the Valleys. Surprisingly saw 2 people up there that time of the day! Earlier that day we did a circular bagging Wolverton Hill, Callow Hill and Diddlebury Common in equally amazingly sunny and clear conditions.DanTrig14/03/2022

1/6 Dewey Day. From Hillside Road to the east, up Brown Clee Hill then along the ridge to Clee Burf and back through the woods. 9.5km with 300m ascent in 2 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan14/08/2021
Parked at Brown Clee Roadside Parking (free and loads of space) and followed the forest trail to the summit, taking the tarmac steep incline and road to the actual summit. Simply breathtaking views and another to definitely return to one day. Headed down the Shropshire trail and made a loop of it. Loads of pathways and tracks to choose from, truly a hill you could never get bored of. Would love to see it in the snow!jamiequackers09/08/2021

Despite being foggy at home we set out for a 9 mile walk taking in Brown Clee and Clee Bluff. Great day in cloudless blue sky. Could see the cloud over Stourbridge and Dudley (just the Dudley mast visible as it poked through the gloom. Cadar clearly visible and looked spectacular in its snow covering.Bernard19/01/2020

Started with heavy grey skies, risked the ascent through gorse and brake. Easy enough climb but wet under foot and clouds closed in arounf halfway up making a wet head to toe day.. Will return and hopefully bring higher clouds to enjoy a view!Stephen22/11/2019
A quick jaunt following a trip to the West Midlands Safari Park at Kidderminster - From minor road below Far View the path meanders up through the gorse and bracken to a flatter boggy area with rough grasses. We reach the summit under swirling dark grey skies. A shower veils the Long Mynd heading towards us - time to descend in the gathering gloom.briandavies13/10/2019

From The Three Horsehoes via Clee Burfcampagvelocet29/04/2019
The start of the walk can be found at one of the multitude of spaces that exist alongside the minor road west of Cleobury North (SO607873).our first destination was Bridge Pool at SO610855 which would allow a nice walk through the ancient trees of the Burwarton Park Estate and a view of the new lambs. From the pool we headed straight up this picturesque valley to Five Springs at SO597854. The views from here towards Wales are tremendous and give even more reason to add in the extra loop that took us over Clee Burf past the relay station. There are lots of signs of the ancient hill fort that used to be at the top. From here it was a simple matter of following the Shropshire Way and then cutting NE to the summit at Abdon Burf (SO594867). Apart from the small pool and massive communications tower there is a circular viewfinder that helps to point out the summits you can see (on a less hazy day). I know from past experience that the views can be fantastic towards the Long Mynd.andrewcoles22/04/2019

Solo. From Burwarton up along rights of way and permissive tracks to the trig point on Brown Clee Hill and the highest point, which is on the other side of the masts. Continued on a path S and then up to Clee Burf. Back to the col and more or less directly back to Burwarton.pwbellarby05/03/2019

With E. From Abdon village hall (ample car parking spaces). Across fields to Cockshutford, up metalled track to Clee Burf telecoms tower. Track along Shropshire Way to Brown Clee Hill viewpoint and true summit just beyond. Continued following Shropshire Way down to Bank House then across fields back to village hall. Low cloud meant no views at all, some snow around old quarry at Clee Burf.Beeliner05/02/2019
Parked at SO 58777 87341 Zig Zagged my way up to the summit vewfinder. Needed to be slightly taller to read the viewfinder plate (Trig point pillar (TP1701) is missing but the spider is embedded half way up the steps with the flush bracket on the top step) excellent views on a fine day.Tony Hartry17/01/2019

Hour and a half county top walk from the ample parking area used for Brown Clee picnic area near Ditton Priors. Second visit and this was the third of three tops walking the Shropshire way from Titterstone clee, over Clee Burf to Brown Clee. A distance of seven miles, returning the same way. The walk starting from the viewpoint carpark under Titterstone Clee took five and a half hours.WAYNE ROWLETT28/08/2017
With: hb; From roadside parking at SO607872, followed excellent path up through woods. Superb 360 view. Shameful destruction of trig to build the topograph, which is now too high for short people to read! Walked around aerial enclosures (which seemed to be full of sheep!) to visit summit. They should have erected the topograph next to the trig., instead of vandalising it. Hummock beyond masts visited, although it says on the topograph it's the highest point in Shropshire. Then on to Clee Burf.ngthack27/11/2016

Second summit today after Stiperstones. Parked near the gate on North side, followed nice path to summit. Steep at first but levels off at the top. Excellent topography, nice to see nearly every hill I climbed so far. This top completes my Shropshire Hills.Viroco09/10/2016
Easy 30min walk up from Bank House ...parked just to side of gate at footpath. Topograph (instead of trig point) at the top is nice ...clear evening with lovely red sunset and excellent views.keithelliott05/10/2016

It really is brown. Great atmosphere up this county top.tumpawumpa01/08/2016
From the Neenton/Cleobury North side, lay-by on road through woods, fairly steep climb and some fantastic views of the Wrekin and Malverns on the way up. Good summit, saw Great Rhos on the horizon (still need to go back and finish that one). Circled around and back down, the forestry work has churned one of the paths into an unpassable bog, but the other path was fine. 4.7miles, great bit of walkage.Stuzinho31/07/2016
Number one of three summits on this walk. Cloudy but with period of rain and some sunny spells. Abdon Burf / Brown Clee Hill (540m), Clee Burf (510m) and Titterstone Clee Hill (533m) using the Shropshire Way on the outward route via Bromdon. Returning via Cleestanton, Cleedownton and Burwarton Park. Distance = 30.68km. Average moving speed = 4.9km/h. Time moving = 6:15. Ascent = 898m.paulnewby8110/07/2016

Parked to the East and walked a ~4.5 mile circular route. Fred says that it was brilliant but that he fell in the mud twice. Cal came too; Bob was carried up, and walked most of the way down.Ham and Skate09/07/2016
From A4117 where Shropshire Way crosses it to W of Cleehill with Shaky. Over Titterstone Clee Hill first following the line of the Way until the minor road deviates & walked up that & round the edge of the quarry to that summit which is a grand viewpoint. Then picked up Shropshire Way again & followed it passed Callowgate. Callow Way was ankle deep in mud. Followed Way generally N to Navigational Relay Station where Shaky bailed out. Continued to summit of Brown Clee Hill in distinctly thundery conditions. Returned by same route back over Titterstone Clee Hill. Probably easier ways of doing both hills together...NotReallyABagger25/06/2016
Verge parking to east SO607872. Pleasant walk up through woods.mart079718/06/2016
Room for one car at SO 60210 87753, at the foot of the 'Incline'. However, there is now ample parking at SO 60770 87201, which would allow a more aesthetic ascent of the hill. As I don't get many opportunities to make comments (this is my 1st), may I thank gerrybowes for many, many usefull logs.aul-fogie03/06/2016
Walked from Stokegorse over Clee Liberty Common to Clee Burf and then onwards to Brown Clee Hillastokes30/05/2016
Clear, sunny. British Orienteering Champs - had to deviate from my line to touch the trig point - wasn't having a great run anyway, so this was a consolation. Will return to correct top sometime.davechaffey30/04/2016
Parked off road opposite footpath signposted as Forest Track (SO60776 87203). Took direct route up path through Stanbroughs Wood visiting trig first to south of Wireless Station. A muddy and slippery ascent from the west. Great views with 3 or so inches of snow on the ground. Took the steep footpath back down to the south and made the short walk back to the car by road.mrcarllewis05/03/2016
Parked to NE and followed paths and tracks until I saw aerials on summit and headed straight for them across very rough ground. Managed to find same route back to car. Sunny and cold.mike.hoult18/02/2016
A late start because of the A38 being a car park and icy roads near the hill, including a four star skid at Clee St Margarets, even with winter tyres...But never mind, it was an utterly glorious day: blue skies, huge views and nice crunchy snow at the top. From Stokegorse, via Nordy Bank fort and the 5 springs. There wasn't time to bag Titterstone Clee as well, so I went over the top of the hill through Stanbroughs wood, past Black Bank and back up to Clee Burf. Glorious sunset views on the way down off piste past the quarry, towards the fort and back. Recommended pub: The Kings Arms in Cleobury Mortimer. Cheap plentiful food, 6 different Hobsons beers (mmmmm) and a roaring fire. Splendid!Gill20/01/2016

Poor forecast so chose Brown Clee and stayed dry but saw nothing. Good paths and signposts all round although without GPS, summit would have been missed.SS05/04/2014
Parked in Burwarton. West up to Boyne Water and then along Shropshire way before turning east to the top where masts, pools, ruins and panoramic views all round. Return via Harewood.callumorr15/03/2014
Parking roadside at Cockshutford, walked up to col between Clee and Abdon Burfs. After visiting Clee Burf retraced to col and followed fence line up to Abdon Burf so as to search for 2 benchmarks - found both. Summit in cloud, comms masts seen at last moment before walking into them (almost). Topograph (or toposcope) a good addition to hill top - but not at expense of the trig. At least metalwork has been retained.jonglew17/02/2014
Another with the new year crowd and everyone made it to the top. Originally planned to follow the track up from near Hillside Farm but much nicer on the path further along the road to the south east. On the ascent when reaching the second track the path straight ahead is a much better option than turning right and trying to follow the right of way.Newton Maximus02/01/2014
Parked to West near phone box,in gateway, room for few cars. W Jenx, walked/jogged up to top. Old trig replaced by functional looking viewfinder, Flush bracket in the steps. On past mast to true highpoint, ran back down nice green lane.nordicstar15/11/2013

Our first evening/night-time walk. From Hillside we parked in the layby and followed the path up through the bracken and then along the woodland walk. The bridleway up was very steep but tarmac'd so not too tough. Followed the bridleway all the way to the top just as the sun was setting and walked back in the dark. I suggest this trigpoint needs a catagory all of it's own, needs to be "Recycled" i suppose one mans vandalism is anothers art? - i personally found it different and interesting, is this unique? as FB and Spider being made into something else? At least it survives in part. I parked at the Bridleway to the west, great little evening walk up lots of Sheep and Rabbits, very boggy underfoot great views all the way - great location. extra point at it is Pillar number 750 :).griefmiester21/06/2012

Approximate date, certain year. It was certainly not the height of summer but warm enough to break sweat. For a county top not as much difficulty as expected. If memory serves took a fairly direct route to summit from layby on nearby unclassified road via sheepy fields. Descent along track and thence along footpath through small coniferous wood. Perfectly pleasant.nwormgage13/05/2012

A superb freezing day. Finding a place to start from the car was the only problem on ice-covered lanes. Abdon Liberty (082860) was chosen. We went straight onto Brown Clee, then enjoyed extending the walk over Clee Burf (pt. 510) and down to Nordybank Fort. This last section was particularly lovely as a breeze started up and began to clear the haze. Everything above 1100 ft was covered in snow- stunning views, then a fascinating, extensive fort to explore- not commercialised (NB-back in 1995). It had an appealingly remote atmosphere this day.
