On Way home from South Downs. Parked like others from Vercor Close. Pleasant woodland and actually cracking views. Enjoyed more than I had expected to. Watched planes landing at I think East Midlands? | nickywood1 | 04/10/2023 |
Revisit of my local Marilyn after nearby Tump bag. Walked up footpath from Whitwick Road. | KevPalmer | 03/10/2023 |
From Vercor Close, a pleasant walk up through woodland. Good views from the trig point; impressive views of the quarry. An interesting hill, formed of some of England's oldest rocks. | justin_j_evans | 30/07/2023 |
Parked in Vercor Close to the N and followed Ivanhoe Way to the top by the mast. Trig point was more interesting with views over the quarry. As long as we need roads we will need quarries like this. Overcast. Solo. | richard69 | 14/07/2023 |

Leicester summit at long last, actually really good, amazing quarry, and good riding. Bit of a carry to actual summit. | visionset | 07/06/2023 |

A cold day in the East Midlands. A few miles' walk from the bus stop at Bardon, over the quarry and to the summit. The quarry makes for a fairly bleak industrial landscape in winter but overall nice views. | hillbagger91 | 04/02/2023 |
Climbed up from Greenhill on Ivanhoe Way | mavero10 | 28/01/2023 |

From Vercor Close up Ivanhoe Way. Very muddy after recent rain. Top is a rocky tor; trig is further on and lower. Another Marilyn which is worth climbing but not worth travelling to climb, to paraphrase Dr Johnson. | peter4lc | 05/03/2022 |

From N along Ivanhoe Way during Storm Arwen, so very windy and cold. Some snow but mostly muddy. Nice views to N of snow covered Pennines. Sunset and storm winds made for a dramatic scene. Summit tor was awkward to access amongst trees and shubbery. Solo | RoguePulsar | 27/11/2021 |
Parked at Vercor Close and a nice gentle walk to the summit, a few dog walkers around and that was about all. Beautiful views on a fresh November morning. | jamiequackers | 25/11/2021 |

From Vercor Close, Coalville. | paulhilder | 08/08/2021 |
The highest point in Leicestershire and also location of Bardon Hill Trig Point. Great views down into Bardon Hill Quarry (which has encroached almost to the summit) and across to Ellistown and Coalville. Accessible by public footpaths from Copt Oak and Bardon. | praenterprise | 01/08/2021 |
Nice walk on a hot morning. Views improved as the murk slowly cleared. Only met a few near the top. | David Bremner | 21/07/2021 |
Last of 18 historic county tops on this leg of my tour of Britain. Fantastic views from the Trig point at the top. Fantastic views in most directions. All except to the NW where the enormous Amazon warehouse marrs the view. | pclyndes | 22/06/2021 |

From Vercor Close, circuit of the hill, boggy heading up. Didn't see anyone else all walk | Jephcote83 | 22/12/2020 |
Parked in the lorry lay-by on the A511 roundabout that links to the B585. Walked eastwards along the dual carriageway footpath past a wee church on the same roundabout until reaching a ROW. This went through a recently planted woodland to Brook Farm, which seems to be the HQ of an Aggregate Company, and onto a private road northwards to Bardon Hall. The Ivanhoe Way crosses this road just east of the Hall, giving a well signposted route to the summit and Trig. Returned the same way. | summitter | 23/09/2020 |

set off from Billa Barra to SE, but new fenced-off plantation Diversion cast me out on to minor road to Cpt Oak, so I recalled my waiting chauffeur and went in and out from Agar Nook in Coalville. Nice rocky top but views less than beautiful. | IanHHill | 15/03/2020 |
Northern route via Vercor Close, a lot of mud at the bottom, but after a year in Amsterdam, good to be climbing hills again and enjoying the views! Quite possibly volcano #1. | edmundjohnson | 14/03/2020 |

Good path to summit from Coalville. Bagged with Henry Marston for his 600th | Buteobuteo | 14/09/2019 |
My 600th Marilyn, having recced the start from Vercor Close on return from a springtime expedition to the south east. Conveniently, there was an Orienteering event at Loughborough to define the date. Joined by Antony Whitehead, Kevin Palmer, Andrew Wilkinson, daughter Maya (with Pixie) and her friend Kira. Kevin and Andrew's local knowledge found the direct route up (early right turn) with some rough footpaths near the summit, but the easier down the track with short climb up steps linking tracks on the way down. | henryfm | 14/09/2019 |
Parked on housing estate below. Decent views, quarry is ugly but beautiful at the same time. | ironwolf | 26/08/2019 |

Ivanhoe Way from Vercor Close off Greenhill Rd. Easy paths then round quarry, past telecoms tower and to trig. | NormanW | 29/07/2019 |
With E. A warm sunny day. From Vercor Close along Ivanhoe Way to summit trig point. Also visited rock tor near telecomms masts as reported to be similar height. | Beeliner | 26/07/2019 |
Parked in small parking area down the road from Abbots Oak near Greenhill Farm - Diverted path round quarry lands edge takes you to the mast with the summit and trig beyond through the wood (you drop a bit to rise again). Impressive summit only a few metres from the summit with a 300m drop into the quarry. | briandavies | 13/07/2019 |

Out Closest Marilyn, Wasn't expecting much of a walk but was pleasantly surprised. 7.2m circular starting at Mount St Bernard Abbey, across Warren Hills then bit of road to Bardon Hill Summit. Returned via Timberwood Hill and the nature reserve. Lovely quiet sunny day. Not a part of the country I usually frequent, so I bagged Bardon Hill while on my way down the M1 to Windsor to support my Explorer Scouts on their QSA for the Scouts' Day of Celebration and Achievement. With Annette and Sandra. | silveracorn_alan | 27/04/2019 |
On a run from Thornton Reservoir. National Forest nice. Industrial Estate less so. | dc96 | 23/04/2019 |
From the footpath to the S of Brook Farm and Old Hall Farm. Note that the Ivanhoe Way and path leading from Poplar Farm to the SE have been diverted and can't be used. This was my 900th hill bagged. Vercor Close start. If you don't have a GPS and have just a screen-grab map on your phone and you're walking in the heavy mist then this might assist you!

From Vercor Cl follow Ivanhoe Way sign through gate. Continue straight then dog-leg left/right through trees. After the right turn continue up the slope and keep going past a stone bench and through a kissing gate until you turn right to get to the big transmitter. The trig point is about 200m past the transmitter along an undulating rocky path.

It's beautifully positioned on a small rocky outcrop. Shame there was no view in the mist! | jedthehumanoid | 16/11/2018 |

Beacon Hill- Birch Hill- Bardon Hill. Sadly, the lovely footpath from Bardon Hill to Copt Oak is gone... the rolling green fields giving way to a noisy dusty brown quarry, and the footpath has been diverted to the dual carriageway meaning a long busy road walk to Copt Oak.
Birch Hill summit isn't accessible by public paths, you would have to climb a wall and fight through the undergrowth, although a footpath does run by it | Endurance Adventures | 20/07/2018 |

Markfield bus - Old John Tower - Benscliffe Hill - Bawdon Castle - Ives Head - Birch Hill - Bardon Hill - Bardon bus. First-rate summits but a lack of good paths connecting them. For this one, approaching from Birch Hill, the right of way past Kellam's Farm has been swallowed up by quarrying and has been diverted round past SK466135 to the woods. Paths led easily to the remarkable summit on the edge of the quarry, but attempting to short-cut back to Bardon village I foolishly strayed onto the main quarry road going SSW (I thought I was on the track heading for Forest House, about SK458127, but maybe further north - things have changed on the ground, I think) and was picked up by a disapproving quarry official. After taking my name he drove me back to SK462128 and I had to divert south past Brook Farm. Then I failed to notice that the bus stop at the roundabout had moved 100 yards up the B585 to the hotel, and walked all the way up to Bardon! | Mark Jackson | 28/10/2017 |

Nice summit looks like the views would be good, cloud haze meant could not see anything much | Sossick | 27/09/2017 |
All the family walked up this from the housing estate. Some footpaths in the area have been diverted 'until December 2060'(!), but not the direct approach that we took. The quarry, which on our way only appeared right at the top has a certain majesty that made this walk quite special. | Ham and Skate | 24/09/2017 |
Great! | CalTudor | 24/09/2017 |

Probably not worth a special trip, but worth a detour on the way home from a work meeting. A somewhat short and unexciting expedition, given that the hill is sandwiched between a housing estate, a quarry and a motorway. Best to liven it up by running it, but you'll need another run when you get home, or you won't feel the benefit. | Gill | 10/01/2017 |

County top walk,I parked in Copt oak and followed a five mile route called Ninety feet short of a mountain in the book Walking in Charnwood by Heather MacDermid. This was a problomatic route as I got confussed with footpath changes and the diversion's around Bardon quarry saying that when I did find the trig point what a view into the quarry. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 26/07/2015 |

A quiet, sunny and hot walk - straight forward route from the housing estate to the north. Why could I smell 'the seaside'?

This was the first visit when I walked in along Ivanhoe Way from Cademan Woods (N of Whitwick) - dull walk - shouldn't have bothered. Parked at Vercor Close. Ivanhoe route starts through gate at the end of this . Followed path through woods, got just out of woods onto path with service roads for trucks to quarry running on the left, then went steeply up road/path with woods on right. Trig and summit just past transmitter mast - went down a bit then up over some rocks. Excellent view of the quarry which is quite a remarkable sight. Information placard just past the trig. My last summit of the day (Old John Tower, Benscliffe wood, Beacon Hill, Bawdon Castle, Birch hill and this summit).
It was pleasing to reach the highest summit in the area last. After Birch Hill I stopped at the Bull's head pub in Abbots oak, then took road leading to Coalville branching off on the Ivanhoe way and then taking footpath up to the summit. View spoilt to Southwest over tops of industrial estate. Lovely views elsewhere to be had. This day had dark clouds except for sunlight around Nottingham area. You could spend hours picking out points of interest. Quarry looks epic from the top. Attractive woodlandd surrounds this hill and is home to the very rare Charnwood spider! I took the footpath heading down the slopes in South East direction to link back up with Ivanhoe way all the way to the A50. Billa barra hill will have to wait for another day! Interesting to note that several of the Granite hills in this area were former volcanoes including Bardon Hill. | Dazingdale | 15/12/2013 |

Walked from pull-in between Bardon Hall and Bardon Farm. Straight up woodland path to yet another mast station. Walk on further to trig. View over uninspiring industrial landscape but fantastic view of the quarry (worth seeing). The air smells bad. | Argentum66 | 03/05/2013 |

On a 5 county top jaunt as the weather was fine, at least not raining anyway. Everywhere there was standing water on the fields and tracks, bad decision to wear my canvas walking boots duh.
A half decent hill at last. Parked up at Billa Barra and went up the footpath to Old Rise Rocks where one of the quarry landowners used to live, on to Bardon Hill Wood, past the small memorial plaque to him and up the hill through some lovely scrub. Recommended route but not when wet! Up to masts and popped on to every rock top ammongst the trees (thanks Nordicstar) and then across to the trig. Wow, what a view. You can see miles from here. And quite far down too, straight into the abiss which is the quarry. There is a fence close by to stop suicide jumpers skydiving down into the quarry, the fence has a wreath on it to the last jumper and you can clearly see a repaired section which was cut out of the fence. My return route took me through the quarry head office and admin buildings and out on to t | Mark T | 19/03/2013 |

Gentle stroll with my little girl, Emma, from Agar Nooks.

This would be a nice little summit if it werent for the view of the quarry, massive industrial estate, radio masts and the litter on the top, which is the blight of summits near residential areas.

Perfect weather and the ignoring the above, the view are incedible. Due to the flatness in half the panorama, you can see for tens of miles. | RichieRambler | 18/11/2012 |

Parking is hard to find. From the SE (Old Rise Rocks Farm) a lovely path leads up through a variety of scenery. The trig point can be hard to find (especially in the fading light). | AlexanderHoward | 26/08/2012 |
Top no.13. Train to Leicester and bus on to Coalville; then along the Ivanhoe Way to the top and on to the A511 for the bus home. Had difficulty finding the trig point on Bardon Hill as the path was overgrown, but once there I came across John, a new recruit to the SOTA community, who had just completed his first activation. Distance 3.8 miles; climb 526 feet; time 1.5 hours. | alan.65to70 | 16/08/2012 |
From Agar Nook using right of way to near top, then to the trig point on the edge of the quarry. Fascinating to see the huge bowl of exposed rock, the ruderal/ woodland walking to get to/from there (very good for rare invertebrates). The most unsightly bit was the landfill site the Ivanhoe Way goes along side. Had 3 more short walks elsewhere in Charnwood inc. Beacon Hill, Bradgate Park- all very good but to link up would need some long road walking sections. Dodged some spectacular thunderstorms. | pwheeler | 06/08/2012 |
