Anticlockwise loop from Meldon Reservoir via Black Tor, High Willhays and Yes Tor. Short steep ascent up Black tor and on to High Willhays. Wet, windy and boggy but not overly challenging. Lovely views at the start of the journey in particularmuzza217/03/2024
Parked at Okehampton Camp. Headed up the military road then cross country to the summit of West Mill Tor. A few tiny patches of snow left on this hill. Then on to Yes Tor where above 550metres there was still a covering of snow on the north eastern slopes. Visited trig and then across to the summit of High Willhays where there was a patchy covering. Although never known the ground as wet as this. Mostly dry with a bit of sun. Good views. Time taken 2 hours 45 minutes for 6.5 miles. Raven, Meadow Pipits, Stonechats seen.isabelle24/02/2024

My 300th tump! Parked at Meldon Reservoir CP. Intended to stick to paths marked on OS map, but found unmarked track that followed Red-a-ven Brook upstream to about 500m height before taking direct route to Yes Tor then simple trudge to the summit. No views unfortunately as low cloud and got soaked on the way down. Came back via Black-a-Tor Copse with very mossy trees. Path to N of Meldon Reservoir is blocked off. With FelixRoguePulsar30/06/2023
Parked at car park we went through a gate down the path then next to a lake then followed path near a viaduct then went next to the stream which we followed until we cut across a field up a rocky field to the top of Yes Tor then went across to the top. With Dad.speedyclimber30/06/2023

Travelled from Kent to Plymouth to see Muse and broke up the drive with a stop off at Dartmoor. Parked at the reservoir and went cross country up, making sure to look out for skylark nests. Very few people around apart from a couple of walkers and some army guys at the top. Gorgeous day, over 30 degrees. Really liked this climb. Not too high, some obstacles but nit too many, and fantastic views. Interesting rock formations at summit.MysteriousSue27/05/2023

From Sourton up the West Okement valley forded the river just north of Black-a tor copse. Up to Fordsland Ledge. Good covering of snow on the tops with the blue skies and no wind was superb up there today. To High Willhays summit then Yes Tor and down to Vellake Corner back to Sourton. Ascended from Meldon Car Park via Yes Tor on a clear, dry August day. High Willhays is a very attractive county top. The view across Dartmoor and to Black Tor is a highlight. Returned by following the West Okement river to Meldon Reservoir; a beautiful route in summer albeit with some leaps to make to avoid getting wet.hillbagger9123/08/2021

Climbed solo. Cloudy but mostly dry day except one light shower on ascent of Yes Tor and some drifting mist. Parked at Meldon Reservoir car park (£2 charge). Crossed dam and used the track which winds around Longstone Hill. At around 425m contour, I turned east for Yes Tor summit, following initially an indistinct path. The summit has a flag pole and trig point on a small tor. Easy walk south along the ridge to Devon's highest point, High Willhays, which was marked by cairn topped by a graceful tower of tiny stones! Fine views of surroundings, especially the bleak terrain to the south. Strongly reminiscent of Pennines or Cheviots. Stayed high on mostly pathless terrain to Dinger Tor and Lints Tor before descending to the upper valley of the West Okement River. The valley is boggy at first but a small path soon appears. Passed an enchanting stunted oak forest and a wooded gorge before reaching the reservoir and return to car.jamessteel10016/08/2020
Walked with eldest son (17) from the car park at Meldon Reservoir. Weather warm with some low cloud but also patches of sunshine. Went to Yes Tor first then on to High Willhays. Descent enlivened by youth hostel ringing at 7.53pm to say check in was by 8pm not 10pm due to Covid. Thankfully they let us in when we got there at about 9.25pm.clyoung06/08/2020

Run from Meldon Reservoir. Warm and sunny day!dave_mole22/07/2020
Run up from the east side of Meldon Reservoir followed a stream to the east of Homerton Hill up on to the plateau. Ran slowly across the open moor to High Willhays. Close to the stream I saw a Grey Wagtail higher up there were a few Crows and plenty of Skylarks. Had a chat on the summit and enjoyed the view. Could clearly see the North Devon coastline and the sea. Ran easily to Yes Tor where I said hello to a couple hunkered down in the rocks. Easy run back to the start across the trackless moor. Saw my first Wheatear of the year. Time taken an hour for 4 miles.isabelle14/06/2020

Run from Sourton Church up over Sourton Tors along the old railway to Great Links Tor. I t took me a few minutes to remember the easiest climb to the actual summit which was very easy as the only technical move is low down. I headed on to the remains of Bleak House. I remember camping by it in 1990 and it was a lot more substantial then. I took the path up to Kitty Tor. The cloud broke and it was warm in the sunshine. I headed down to Sandy Ford and then up High Willhays and Yes Tor before running back to Sourton via the top end of Meldon reservoir. For the 11 miles it took 2 hours 30 minutes. I saw Wheatear, Linnets, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Buzzard, Kestrel and Ravens.isabelle04/08/2019

Not exactly the most beautiful walk. Started at Meldon Reservoir. Cloud base was approx 350m so didn't have any views. Nice to practic navigation skills though. Marched up Longstone Hill, then cross country to meet the Yes Tor - High Willhays track, up to HW, then over to YT, then back on the tracks/paths via Black Down. Beware that there seem to be some extra tracks which are not marked on OS; it would be easy to get pretty lost in the fog if you're not concentrating! The pool at SX564922 is worth a short detour.jkl30/12/2018

Over the rough grasses /faint tracks we find High Willhays summit cairn not realising we are there. Fast track heading south to Hangingstone, peat bog to Whitehorse, then very tiring high tussock grass over the side of Black Hill and up to Cut Hill. On return leg, high tussock grass to Dinger, then easy walking to High Willhays, Yes, and return to Row Tor. A fabulous solo walk.Dartmoorman22/06/2018

When I arrived at Meldon Reservoir at 9am there was only one other car in the car park, though it was full when I returned. I took the lane down to the dam, crossed it and followed a track which soon turned inland and uphill, gradually curving southwards and with the flagpole on Yes Tor already visible. High Willhays is two metres higher and there is a track between the two, but a herd of cattle sat on it, so I took lower ground to the east before emerging on the summit. Not having walked here before, I looked at the impressive panorama dotted with tors on each skyline but recognised nothing, an unusual feeling. I headed down towards Black Tor but found myself some way south of it and had more cattle to avoid before picking up the track by which I had ascended, now in glorious late morning sunshine.peter4lc12/08/2015
