A morning ascent of Dorset's highest point - I'm sure the views are wonderful but today Lewesdon Hill definitely had its head in the clouds! | ThomasJoseph | 12/03/2024 |
Parked at the road side in Broadwindsor near the junction of Yarn Barton and the B3162. Lovely walk up through the fields and then the beech woods on the summit. | islamidget | 26/09/2023 |
An easy mile-long walk from the car park in Broadwindsor, with newborn baby in tow. Easy to find the summit. Pleasant views of surrounding countryside through the trees at the top. | hillbagger91 | 21/08/2023 |
Like Beeliner below parked at the school in Broadwindsor and enjoyed coffee, sandwiches and a cinnamon bun at the Wobbly Cottage bakery before ascending on a path through fields and into the beech wood top. Returned the same way. Overcast and low cloud. With Gillian. | richard69 | 28/07/2023 |
With E. On a lovely summer morning we parked outside the school in Broadwindsor and started by having a coffee and freshly baked cinnamon bun at the superb one man bakery in The Old Post Office. Through field paths passing the memorial for The Forgotten Pilot of Lewesdon Hill then onto ridge and Dorset county summit. Returned via Wessex Ridgeway passing Higher Knapp Farm then footpaths passing Honeycombe Farm and along Monarchs Way back into Broadwindsor. A delightful walk and another county top bagged. | Beeliner | 27/06/2023 |
With Lesley. Lovely blue bells on top plateau. | Nick Canute | 16/05/2023 |
Parked at the Old Post Office in Broadwindsor. Took path from 439022 through grassy fields followed up onto ridge and to summit, crossing over a very muddy path. To return walked along ridge path down to meet Wessex ridgeway, then along here to meet outgoing path. On return came down fields to village at 435025. Pleasant 2.6 mile loop. Nice picnic spot with cairs and benches opposite Post Office. | JulieB | 24/02/2023 |
From West Street in Broadwindsor via boggy footpaths.

With J during a few days based in Somerset. Had difficulty finding parking on S or E sides of hill, so parked easily near village shop in Broadwindsor. Walked S up the B3162 safely enough & then followed the public footpaths across the fields to meet the Wessex Ridgeway. Up to the summit & then wandered around the top taking in the occasional views through the trees. Lots of tree swings for some reason. Back by the same route & then on to Hardown Hill. | NotReallyABagger | 06/10/2020 |

Cycled over from Horton near Ilminster up to the ridge at Stoke Knapp Farm. A short walk up the track and then up through the Beech woods to the top - County Top No..4. Views out to the south through the trees to Golden Cap and the English Channel. | pclyndes | 05/09/2020 |
Rain and thunder on the way up, sunshine on the way down! | ParkerP1960 | 27/08/2020 |
1/5 Parked at start of bridleway to S and nipped up and back. V windy, cool showers. | Rounsfell | 27/06/2020 |
Parked by the church at Stoke Abbot and made along Jubilee Way to the south of Lewesdon Hill. Nice clamber up through beech woods. Thought I had more to do, yet suddenly I was up on the large grass platform of the summit. This is a very pleasant place. Top hump of this trip. Continued to the end and down to join Wessex Ridge Way and then east to Waddon Hill.
As others say the landowner of Waddon Hill has gone over the top with the keep out signs. More welcome would be their showing some effort with fitting stiles. I encountered locked gates and electric fences across the right of way on the way to Lewesdon. May be the same people in charge. Hope the county council rights of way officer doing something on this. | Pete West | 22/02/2020 |
Crewkerne station - Mosterton Down - Conegar Hill - Lewesdon Hill - Waddon Hill - Gerrard's Hill - Beaminster Hill - South Warren Hill - Jack's Hill - Hincknowle Hill - Mangerton Hill - Melplash - bus to Crewkerne. | Mark Jackson | 18/01/2020 |

From Stoke Abbott to summit and down to Broadwindsor. | IanHHill | 02/10/2019 |
Having ‘bagged’ Eggardon hill early I drove to Broadwindsor and parked by the village store. Breakfast pastry purchases before a 10.5 mile walk up to Lewesdon hill before heading back down to pick up bridleway and road to Pilsdon Pen. Heading down to Stoke Abott using roads and Bridle Paths and the Jubilee Way to Stoke Abbott then up to Chartknolle Farm out and back to Gerrard's Hill. Headed back to Broadwindsor via Waddon Hill which is clearly a hill the landowner does not want you to walk up! | Buck | 03/08/2019 |
Parked to the south of the top, at the entrance to the bridleway. Easy walk up through the trees, well signed. | jedthehumanoid | 26/07/2019 |
On the way to walk the Cerne Valley Trail. Very early morning quick up & back walk to summit from parking area near courtwood farm. | fosal29 | 09/07/2019 |

Managed to squeeze the car in near Stoke Knapp farm to E of hill and followed Lewesdon Hill Lane up to woods at top. Struggled up directly via the NE ridge but returned much more sensibly to the lane via the RoW leading back to the N. | Wheelsy | 15/06/2019 |

Nice little stroll up from Buck's Head. Great views on the way up, but the actual summit was in cloud so I didn't quite see the appeal of doing my planned circuit round to Waddon Hill and Stoke Abbott... | jkl | 30/12/2018 |
Walked over from Pilsdon Pen via minor roads and FP to South. Traffic free! Then up steep slope from near Buck's Head. Enjoyable. Onto Waddon Hill next. | trimarc2 | 20/11/2018 |
There is parking for three cars immediately to the S of the frontage of Bucks Head and which was in use by local dog walkers. | Isbjorn | 11/11/2018 |

Parking on the road was a bit tricky but we found a layby and went up from the South. Was an easy hike through trees with glimpses of the view. The summit was a plateau surrounded by trees. Limited views. Beautiful quiet area. Did with Joe & Tom. | fnem | 05/08/2018 |
Usual route from Bucks Head then on to Pilsdon Pen | Clach Liath | 04/08/2018 |

Spring at last | Ben Tindal | 12/04/2018 |
From Bucks Head cottage, up the concrete track, and then the footpath. Heavy rain, so it was very muddy and a bit slippy where worn down to the chalk, but just splodge through it. Nice trees, and the massive lawn at the top is a huge surprise. One of the better hills in this area. | Gill | 24/01/2018 |
With K. Parked near Bucks Head after failing to park at either end of Wessex Ridgeway, seemed OK? Lovely hill | Ashley | 17/11/2017 |
2/8M parked side of bucks head cottage track then path up through woods. | robertphillips | 07/11/2017 |

Walked from Broadwindsor | lozinworcester | 05/10/2017 |
County top walk up and down from Buck head on the B3162 just past the turning for Stoke Abbott. There's a couple of spots to park one outside a house called Buck head and one further up the road past the crossroads. The path up through the woods looks like it could be very muddy if wet weather was recent, the plateau is a good view point of the are when you find a gap in the trees. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 11/08/2017 |
8.5 mile walk from car park south of Pilsdon Pen, walked down country lane south-east and onto Jubilee Way to Stoke Abbott (very posh village), up better path to Chartknolle Farm out and back to Gerrard's Hill, then west along Wessex Ridgeway onto Lewesdon Hill, along to B-road and climbed Pilsdon Pen from North, back to car park. Then drove to and bagged Lambert's Castle Hill and Colmers Hill. Lovely and sunny with nice breeze. | DanTrig | 22/05/2017 |
Early morning walk up from Bucks Head. Space for 3 cars at roadside. Good path up the ridge to flattened summit. Glorious early morning sunshine, fine views a little limited by trees. | N.Morters | 16/04/2017 |

From Buck's Head on B3162. Third and final Marilyn of the day to complete Region 41. | Tony J | 18/02/2017 |
1/7 Marilyns today. Space for one car if parked carefully to avoid blocking access at top of Courtwood Farm road. Out and back along Ridgway. | SS | 04/02/2017 |
Very little walking and lots of driving today starting in Littlehampton. Final Marilyn of 4 on close to shortest day of year so ended up on summit in the dark. Only one of modern technology bagging criteria satisfied plus the good old fashioned physical presence verified by myself. Phone battery flat so could not log summit on www.peakunter.com, nearly dark so could not take decent photos but did manage to create a track log on spare tablet. May return at a later date but for now this visit will have to do. | mntainman | 19/12/2016 |

Went in up to my knees in the highest bog in Dorset! | tim747 | 05/06/2015 |
My best Historic County Summit to date... it was all ethereal and misty and lots of interesting plants and flowers. Children doing dangerous swinging over an iron age ditch. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2o0511y6MlrV2JFNWZ0R0s5TEk/view?usp=sharing | M3WDD | 10/05/2015 |

From Broadwindsor, returning via Stoke Knapp and Providence Farm. | squeegs | 21/03/2015 |
Rogue and I nice and easy - winter parking | maltose | 18/03/2015 |
My last of 176 English Marilyns and a nightmare for parking close to. Squeezed in roadside on B3162 at ST 4413 0167. No parking signs all around the Stoke Knapp Farm triangle so couldn't park there... What a lovely County Top this is, in the clearing on top of a beech wood. I can see why the NT bought it. Operated ham radio from the summit for SOTA and made 115 contacts worldwide by Morse and Voice. | G4OBK (Phil) | 13/02/2015 |
Parked at Broadwindsor and climbed Pilsdon Pen first, before completing a circular walk back to Broadwindsor, via this fine hill. With Paul. | Skerryvore | 25/10/2014 |
Parked in Broadwindsor and after passing a house where Charles II slept and a toll house (was this the main road once) walked south through fields. The hill is owned by the NT and is an iron age fort covered by a beautiful beach forest. The views were restricted but the ancient woods are as fine as anything else in the country. Broadwindsor church is a perfect English village church with 12th century arches and magnificent gargoyles | mindlessflogger | 26/08/2014 |
From Bucks Head, ca 2 parking places. Bridleway by nice old beech hedge to top. Continued, joining Wessex Ridgeway and paths to Pilsdon Hill, previously erroneously regarded as the county top Spiritually it still is- it's much the finer top. Back via Lavenstoke, no prob using the track from ST 422000 avoiding an overgrown and sodden bridleway shown on the map 200 m further down the road. Clay soils make for wet going round here | pwheeler | 26/06/2014 |
With Dorothy, Ian and Jo. Parked on the edge of Beaminster, picked up Wessex Ridgeway all the way to final push to the top. Returned via Stoke Abbott. | callumorr | 28/05/2014 |
Lovely deserted place with ancient hilfort among the trees. Ben and Marie short walk from nearby road. Cup of Clipper tea in Beaminster first to get us ready. | mcf | 17/04/2014 |
Solo walk from the layby car park. | bolton | 22/03/2014 |
Being on my back door I'm amazed I've never actually climbed this one before. was quite a foggy morning so I left it until just after midday, parked up in Beaminster and followed the Wessex trail from there. the summit is quite wooded and I was actually disappointed there was no trig point but that was more of an annoyance than anything. Glad I've made it to the highest place in Dorset. | derlan | 13/03/2014 |

With Phoebe | TeasyChris | 16/02/2014 |
Did this one on a day long walk along with nearby Pilsdon Pen, which the locals insist has always been the traditional Dorset county top. The views are actually much better from the top of Pilsdon Pen, which is probably what gives the impression of greater elevation. | The Gardener | 07/09/2013 |
With Alf via Wessex Ridgeway on Burstock side.Top appears to be a small mound under a beech tree in the clearing. | mick | 26/08/2013 |
Walked from Lavestock farm, where we were staying and tried to follow the path to the bridle way across unkept paths including two fields of maize. When we got to the bridle way it was plain sailing all the way up to the top of the hill, past a NT sign to a plain which was the site of a hill fort. | steverd | 14/08/2013 |
After much searching for car parking, located a small space next a bridleway. Climbed a very easy track which didn't appear to go to the summit - then branched off (through some boggy ground, deeper than our boots!) We followed a rough ridge up to the top, where we found the NT signage - hurrah, we'd made it. Well worth all the effort and great fun for the dog. | Janesm | 22/06/2013 |
Pleasant 45 minute stroll along Wessex Ridgeway from B3164 to west. Lots of bluebells in the woods! | citygent | 05/06/2013 |
Climbed with Alli, Left from Beaminster up Gerrard's hill onto Lewesdon Hill down into Stokes Abbot (and the welcoming New Inn pub) then back to start.Very cold, overcast and windy.Extremely muddy.(7 miles) | rickybalboa | 24/03/2013 |
A good family walk. The only challenge is finding a place to park, and toting a three year old over the worst of the mud. | AlexanderHoward | 16/02/2013 |
Climbed with my Dad. It was very muddy and I had to be carried over some of those bits. | isabelle summer | 04/01/2013 |
Climbed from the North West with my daughter Isabelle. We came off the track to early and ended up wading through brambles and thick rough before reaching the National Trust sign. Summit at the far end. This was a very boggy hill, one for the summer. Views were quite good as without any foliage the trees did not obstruct as they would in the Summer. | isabelle | 04/01/2013 |
Climbed with Chris, rained LOTS | magirob | 29/12/2012 |
Ben and Hannah climbed in reasonable conditions. sunny and not too cold. Quite muddy though. | BHMC | 21/12/2012 |

Top no.10 - 4th top during our holiday in Devon; bagged during our journey back home. Parked at Buck's Head on B3162, then short but steep and quite slippery up and back to the top. Disappointing views as the path and top are surrounded by trees. Rather chilly with showers threatening all the time but it managed to stay dry until I got back to the car. Distance 1.7 miles; climb 533 feet; time 0.6 hours | alan.65to70 | 13/07/2012 |
W Jenx & mum, from B3164 as Malcorbett. Bluebells very fine, lane wet in places but good going. Summit location clear. Parking limited but room off road as well as lane end. Spring definitely time to do this walk! | nordicstar | 12/05/2012 |

Followed the Wessex Ridgeway from the WNW. A nice walk and agree this hill is unfairly maligned. No views this day though due to thick mist. | Herbert Anchovy | 06/10/2009 |
Parked in layby at Bucks Head to the south. Concrete path then track to the right leads then left leads straight to the top which I reckon (and a local walking her dog agreed) is the first point of the ridge you come to. Walked along a bit to make sure. | clivevilla | 09/07/2009 |
