West Mendip Way Day 1Rob Rees02/01/2024
From car park to NW, as others.tim74709/07/2023
Short walk returning home from N.Devon holiday. From viewpoint CP. Nice path through wood then out into fields on bridal way before pasture field edge emerging to track just north of summit and trig. Fine sunny day. Made hasty retreat to RoW.N.Morters01/07/2023
From car park to NW, as others. Felt rather exposed walking along the track on the crest of the ridge.Mark Jackson20/12/2022
From NW. Passed farmer in a tractor scraping the track with his front shovel, making more of a mess than doing any good.Minto29/06/2022
From the viewpoint car park to the NW. Uneventful.NormanW27/06/2022
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log: From Loxton on West Mendip Way/Butcombe Trail, then into field (private land), followed boundary and then through an open gate onto another track that lead to the trigpoint, at this point I met the farmer out and about in his digger. He was happy for me to visit the trigpoint but wanted to make sure I went back the same way I came and didn't go past the trigpoint into his farm.thejackrustles25/04/2022
Viewpoint car park to NW at ST 3583 5784 - E. along road for about 150m & then continued E. along bridleway to T-junction - Turned right & followed waymarked West Mendip Way to farm gate at 366577 - Through gate & S. along farm track to the unmarked summit & trig point. Nobody about. (S)gerrybowes07/04/2021
Negotiated the drive from Worlebury Hill Road to the car pk on Roman Rd by pt 143m. Then standard way- RoWs to permissive access into the first field, then private land. Met a local couple who remembered a period when it was permissive access to the summit- they were in fields the opposite side of the wall. Good views and pleasant though, just a quick retreat from HP as the farm comes into view there. Fine and clear.pwheeler15/10/2020
From view point P. Private notice on track, permissive path status no longer no longer applying - but nobody about.summitsup29/09/2020
Parked by Post Box in Loxton. Took West Mendip Way until level with summit. Across 2 fields to Trig on Field Boundary then walked back crossing OS spot in the field.fosal2917/10/2019
Surreal experience in the car park of people sunning themselves on car roofs. Easy hill.Eddie07/07/2019
High point in field is NE (not NW) of trig.malcorbett01/07/2019

From the litter strewn viewpoint. The big field had a sign saying beware of the bull but, as the gate was open, I figured he probably wasn't there.clivevilla19/05/2017
Parked at viewpoint and followed nearby bridleway to pick up West Mendip way and then across field to trig.Ramblingpaul20/02/2017
From view point car park on Roman Road . Followed muddy farm track direct to trig off bridle way to north.Mark Sims06/12/2016
Lovely sunset from here with great views over Bristol Channel, on drive home from Plymouth. Trig on mound at fence line but indistinct highpoint in field. Farmer approached but seemed reassured that we were trigging not shooting. Approached along bridle way from Loxton village.Denise 10/10/2016
Nice Bridleway from Loxton with ancient feel about it then along field boundaries to summit. Superb views over Bristol Channel in the last of the day light, lights of S Wales coast twinkling in the distance. While Abneying the summit a farmer spotted our lights and came to investigate, apparently thinking we might be out shooting. He was quite happy -or possibly relieved - when he found we were only visiting the summit.RichardM10/10/2016

From Car park on Bleadon Hill to NW. Trig other side of BW fence, but higher ground to west of fence. Although middle of field maybe slightly higher. Great view across the Bristol Channel.PeterD05/05/2016
From viewpoint on a Bleadon Hill Road. Farm track branches off from West Mendip Way. Track initially E of boundary, then crosses to W side. Trig point on E side of boundary, summit W side. Excellent his. Great views. Solo.CJM24/06/2015

Used the trade route from the NW. There is indeed a permissive path across the summit now but it's not well signed.Chris Peart04/03/2013
Parked in CP at viewpoint to NW. East then South along West Mendip Way, then right fork through gate onto farm track that runs almost due south along fence to summit trig. This farm track not on OS map, but did see a permissive path sign so trespass not required. Very muddy and in cloud at top so no views.Hillsidenick03/01/2013
Ascended from the North West, I could see nothing as visibility was down to about 20-30 yards. Eventually got close to trig after roaming across a field full of hay bales then found a path. Which led me to just the other side from the trig. As the fence looked higher than the trig I didn't bother climbing over the barbed wire fence.isabelle22/10/2012
From parking to NW then West Mendip Way and farm track. Ground at fence higher than trig.chrisbien21/05/2012
Summit is on private farm land; lots of signs warning 'Private - Keep Out', but we went there to reach the summit and as there was no-one around, we did the trespass.jonglew28/04/2012
Walked in via bridleway to NNW, then take the right path when it splits and a farm track takes you directly to the trig point. excellent views + no need for any trespass.Dugswell226/03/2012
Winscombe to Brent Knoll. Misty. Goat & horse field.Smudge10/03/2012
Walked up from Loxton on the bridleway and then hopped over a gate, reaching the top in the company of a couple of friendly goats.Herbert Anchovy15/02/2012
Trespass schmespass. Needs must.Martin R24/08/2011
Tracks all the way up from a car park to the north. Visited at dusk which with Spring vegetation (everything so much more advanced than back home in Scotland) was very atmospheric. The carpark was a bit busy, I got away with it, but would be uncomfortablfasgadh18/04/2011
Parked to NW and followed bridleways.destaylor10/02/2011
