A splendid walk along a mainly grassy ridge from the car park at Crimea Pass on a very warm September day, visiting Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel-fras and Y Ro Wen. Then return along the ridge, cutting below the summits on the south side to the Crimea Pass. Followed by a quick up and down of Moel Dyrnogydd. 18.5km with 810m ascent in 6 hours. From Crimea Pass. Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel-fras, returned below Moel Penamnen (under the crags) then across A470 to climb Moel Dyrnogydd. Nice day with excellent views | RobertP | 06/09/2020 |
Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnem & Foel Fras from Crimea Pass with Rufus. 7am start, took a few minutes to find the stile, I won’t give any more details to save you some fun! Out and back basically following the NP boundary on the OS map, cutting across a fence and gully above Llynau Barlwyd and traversing under the summit of Moel Penamnem on the return. Better terrain than I expected and a fast round trip of just under 2 hours. | jacobrichmond | 31/08/2020 |
Parked in Lord Street, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Footpath through quarry to Llynau Barlwydd (nice swim). Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel-fras, Manod Mawr North Top, Manod Bach. | PGCE | 15/08/2020 |
From the Crimea Pass. Welsh Hump completion for the nth time. I may well have been on this before as I climbed Moel Penamnen from the same place but thought I’d make sure. | Chris Peart | 06/03/2020 |

From car park on Crimea Pass at 70176 48937. Headed straight for the summit with faint or no paths. Underfoot fairly easy 30 minutes, 0.93 miles. | clivevilla | 24/10/2018 |
From the car park at Crimea Pass. Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel-Fras and Y Ro Wen. Beautiful winter day, very cold but clear and sunny. | Alunrees33 | 24/11/2017 |
From the stile at the south end of the car park on the Crimea Pass. Headed E.N.E to the ridge to make it easier. Headed for Foel Fras next. Solo. | bolton | 09/06/2017 |
Steep and rocky descent from Moel Penamnen to bwlch north of Llynnau Barlwyd and nearly as steep ascent again up Moel Farlwyd. Maybe something to do with long hard day from the Manods. Very satisfying to see 4 of the days five peaks from this summit, the Manods seem a long way away. Now for a 3 mile hike back to the van in Blaenau Ffestiniog. | mntainman | 11/10/2016 |
Parked in the free car park at the Crimea Pass, then over the hidden stile, located by the wall at the edge of the car park. Quick, easy ascent, great views in lovely autumn sunshine. With JT. | Sprog | 09/10/2016 |
From car park to west. Surprisingly big drop to bwlch that wouldn't have been surprising if I'd looked at the map properly. On to Moel Penamnen. | Wycombe Wanderer | 17/09/2016 |

From car park at Crimea, up road, over BWF and follow fence steeply to top. | arranc | 06/09/2015 |
Quick gain of height using mountain bike access road then across to summit after negotiating barbed wire. Returned straight down to road (more barbed) and back to car. Good views to south east and south west, cloud obscuring northern view. | SS | 25/05/2015 |

From Blaenau Ffestiniog, a round of Manod Bach, Manod Mawr, NT, Foel-fras, Moel Penamnen, Moel Farlwyd and Moel Dyrnogydd. | rhalstead | 21/03/2014 |
Clockwise circular round from Blaenau Ffestiniog. Garreg Ddu - Moel Farlwyd - Moel Penamnen - Foel Fras - Manod Mawr North Top - Manod Mawr - Manod Bach. The extremely large building in Maen-offeren Quarries is well worth a peek inside. It's like an industrial museum. The descent off Manod Mawr to the northern tip of Llyn y Manod is fairly ghastly! | David Gradwell | 11/08/2013 |
As part of a circular walk of Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras. Manod Mawr North Top, Manod Mawr and Manod Bach. | JohnStoneham | 04/06/2013 |
I climbed up from the Crimea pass. Above about 550 metres the snow was quite deep, hard and coated in rime. At the summit it was a white out. I then continued to the Hewitt. | isabelle | 11/02/2013 |
Took Ffestiniog railway from Porthmadog to Blaenau F and then walked up through the Maen Offeren quarry. Circular walk taking in Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras, the Manods Mawr and Manod Bach. Only just made the last train back but had a good beer to end the day. | Herbert Anchovy | 29/05/2012 |

Snuck off from pre-exp w/e for a 5 hour outing around 500m tops around Blaenau Ffestiniog. Back through main quarry to west of road -some nasty unfenced holes! felt exhausted by end - Ecuador trip virus lingering? | Chris Pearson | 30/08/2003 |
