Moel Cae-howel from GR: SH 97194 33264.

Re start, managed to drive to the top of Bwlch y Fenni from the SW. Two gates but tarmac road. Note Google Streetview has gone over Bwlch y Fenni.

On the summit area the heather cut strips are running north/ south, lower down they are running east/ west. Head towards the col between Moel Cae-Howel and the 504m spot height top and turn left for the easiest route. Otherwise heather is waist deep. | ronaldo333 | 13/01/2024 |
Moel Cae-howel from GR: SH 97194 33264. | Hippster | 13/01/2024 |
Parking at Hirnant. Up road to Maes Hir then to Bwlch y Fenni.
Heathery thereafter but not too bad going with plenty of strips that have been mowed. | PeteF | 29/12/2023 |
Moel Cae-howel and Rhiwaedog-uwch-afon from Bala. | rhalstead | 23/12/2023 |
Bounced up in, over, around the springy heather, then back down... very windy! | AJH | 17/10/2023 |
Parked at the picnic site. Followed the forest roads up to the public footpath sign at the base of the so called track to the top. Fought my way up along the Christmas tree and bramble infested track to the small clearing at the top of Rhiwaedog-uwch-afon. Retraced steps and into the sheep pasture. Descended amongst the wet and bedraggled sheep and lambs to the forest road and back to the car. Drove up to Bwlch Y Fenni. Fought my way through the wind and rain, using the mown strips of heather to ease the passage to the rather dreary top of Moel Cae-howel, and quickly back to the car to escape the rain. 11km and 460m ascent for both Deweys taking me 3h 90m in the wind + rain. | silveracorn_alan | 11/04/2023 |

from Bwlch Y Fenni initially use grouse cuts SE to point 504 then cuts north to summit return same | underhill | 05/08/2021 |
Parked at Bwlch y Fenni and followed the right of way to a gate where I turned uphill and followed the fence line before striking out for the summit, One and three quarter mile in Fifty five minutes. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 20/06/2021 |
Good parking at the top of the Bwlch at 972332 - road is driveable from both directions. | PGCE | 04/02/2021 |
Parked by forest to west. Short heather and bilberry all the way. Not too bad. | ijpowell | 11/07/2019 |
Parked south of Maes Hir, up the road then track to the bwlch before heading off across the heather using occasional traces of paths then the fence line which goes up between the two tops. Then back to the bwlch and up Y Graig following the forest boundary until the final bit up through growing Christmas trees which are penetrable although not easily. | clivevilla | 07/01/2019 |

Good parking at the top of the Bwlch at 972332. There are some rough tracks to follow but it is a heather bash in places. 30 minutes solo return. | bolton | 06/09/2017 |
We parked at SH 97515 34007 but it is possible to carry on and park easily at Bwlch y Fenni at SH 97218 33301 where a myriad of paths & tracks meet. From the bwlch we did Y Graig first then back to the bwlch for Moel Cae-Howel. | David Gradwell | 23/08/2016 |
Parked Bwlch Y Fenni 973 333 where footpaths all intersect. Followed the track as far as possible, then cut across heather to top. Returned same way. | Rob50 | 06/07/2016 |
Tight squeeze to park by grit bin just outside maes hir gate. I needn't have bothered as the track onwards is a bridleway and tarmacced all the way through to farm on llangynog road.top of pass and an obvious track goes off towards heathery top. Followed cut in heather around right of summit leaving only 10m or so of heather ascent to unmarked top. Superb view. So many hills. Arenig and Aran looking stunning. | stig_nest | 24/05/2016 |
As Des Taylor. Parked on grass verge below gate at SH97519 34010 - East across field, through metal gate & along extended vehicle track to within ½km of top - Over fence & then a slog through heather to the unmarked summit. (S) | gerrybowes | 08/05/2016 |
Dash for a break in the weather. Fine stroll from Queen's Quarry following fence to high point (vague path) then fairly comfortable heather bash to top. | SS | 28/03/2015 |
Continuation of walk from Y Graig. Retraced outward route to Bwlch y Fenni, over a stile, and then took a track SSE to a gate. From there it was a typical wade through knee-high Berwyn heather to the flat summit (no feature) in a sea of high heather. Retraced my outward route back to the bwlch and down north to the beginning of the public road. | Man of Kernow1 | 15/12/2014 |
Followed on from Foel Cwm Sian Llwyd. | dicky | 07/09/2014 |
Parked easily at 975339 just before gate. Took grass field down (no need to cross wire)and traversed around the large barn on track. Last 275m is knee deep heather but last 100m of it is easier. | destaylor | 17/10/2013 |
Nine-Nuttall circuit clockwise from Aber Hirnant, with Ruth | davidpettit84 | 05/05/2013 |
approached from the east | JohnStoneham | 17/11/2011 |
Parked ~ 966327. Climbed via badly signed permissive, detour path, not on o/s, keeping you away from house at Maes-hir. With Wombourne. | steve hudson | 04/03/2009 |
