Pen Creigiau’r Llan South Top > Pen Creigiau’r Llan from GR: SN 74132 92604. Easy off road drive to this starting point south of Llyn Conach. | ronaldo333 | 21/12/2023 |
Pen Creigiau’r Llan South Top > Pen Creigiau’r Llan from GR: SN 74132 92604 | Hippster | 21/12/2023 |
An anticlockwise circuit of 8 Deweys from 723909, generally following GB's detailed guidance, but with deviations onto an additional 7 nearby minor peaks. Mostly easy going on grass and forest tracks in a nice remote area, but some tussocky areas. Many of the tussocks on the descent from Pen Creigau'r Llan can be avoided by carefully following a narrow animal track along the ridge through the open trees, but they cannot during the descent to the forest road. I visited summits in the following order: Banc yr Wyn, Foel Grafiau West Top, Foel Grafiau, Foel Uchaf, Foel Fras, Creigiau Bwlch Hyddgen, Pen y Darren, Pen Creigiau'r Llan North Top, Pen Creigiau'r Llan, Esgair Fraith, Banc Bwlchygarreg East Top, Banc Bwlchygarreg, Moel y llyn, Banc Bwlchygarreg West Top, and Bryn Maw (after dropping the rucksack in the car). A total distance of 24 km, with 1050m ascent, taking 8 hours. | silveracorn_alan | 10/04/2022 |
Parked at 779954 for a circuit of 10 Tumps. Tracks and sheep paths, plus a fair amount of pathless terrain. 10/10. Returned to start via S side of Pen y Darren. 9h30 for about 30km. | PGCE | 13/08/2021 |
from pen y darren views of valley on to cadair idris to north and crag stunning no paths between these 2 hills trods and some ATV tracks | underhill | 01/03/2021 |
Parked in Glaspwll at SN 73861 97485, though there is parking at the lane end near Cwmyrhaiadr at SN SN 75677 96317. Took the RoW up the cwm towards the waterfall. Tried to access the higher RoW above a stand of trees, in order to gain height to attain the path up to the head of the falls. Bad move, ending up pushing through shoulder-high bracken. Abandoned it, dropping down to the lower path through bogs and tussocks. Awful! Crossed a stream, then stiff pathless ascent over bilberry to gain the head of the falls path. This proved to be slippery and eroded - take care. Eventually reached a new seat at the head of the falls. From there it was a hard struggle through deep boggy tussock grass to Pt. 497m, from where a small path took me down and up to the summit. Descent back to the seat by a stream was just as bad. And the cwm path was a boggy bracken bash. Not a route I'd recommend! | Man of Kernow1 | 12/07/2019 |
Parked at 723909, along the track and the east side of Llyn Conach where there is a faint path (for fishermen I think). Then up pathless, tussocky ground to Pen Cregiau'r Llan, across to the N. Top and back more or less the same way. 6.69 miles, 2h21m. | clivevilla | 13/02/2019 |
Parked 723909. This hill from the forestry tracks due South. The woodland east of Llyn Conach is not continuous as the OS maps imply. Moorland between blocks of planting allow progress. | Moorponder | 20/10/2018 |
Sixth of seven Dewey's on a walk of around 20 miles from the memorial west of Drosgol taking seven and a half hours. Route first took in Drosgol, Banc Llechwedd mawr, Foel Grafiau, Foel Fras and Pen y Darren then after this top finishing with Banc yr Wyn. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 26/05/2018 |
The 5th top of an anticlockwise circuit of 8 Deweys, starting with Banc yr Wyn & finishing on Moel y Llyn. From Pen y Darren, W. to forest road & from bend in road made use of a faint ATV track & occasional paths/trods down to stream. After crossing stream, picked up a fairly prominent ATV track/path which takes you to within a few metres of the summit. Continued to Banc Bwlchygarreg. (PM) | gerrybowes | 04/07/2017 |
From Pen Y Darren on an anti clockwise circuit with GB. The descent south to 742926 is a bit rough. | bolton | 04/07/2017 |

Parked easily as Steve Hudson. Followed track immediately from car - which added a good 500m of extra hard slog from leaving the track. Better to start by crossing the bridge at the start and following track on the other side of the stream. This takes you all the way to the forest edge - forest now felled. Then its all pretty horrible to the summit. No paths. | destaylor | 21/05/2015 |
Parked at old mines then off in a counter clockwise loop through Ban yr Wyn (out and back), Foel Grafiau, Foel Fras, Moel Hyddgen, Pen Creigiau'r Llan, Banc Bwlchygarreg, West Top (Or East Top of next), Moel y Llyn then returned past old level after missing higher row. Note new footbridge just north of ford before Lluest-y-rhos (noticed after fording it). Open ground to south of Pen Creigiau'r Llan (shown as forest) but need to negotiate barbed wire. Overcast all day. | SS | 17/05/2015 |
Parked at GR739 976 at junction of road and forestry track. Walked up track to edge of forest then set off through thigh high wet tussock grass towards Bwlch Corog then turned SE through replanted forest then open heath land to summit. Views out to Dovey estuary when low cloud/rain allowed. Returned NNE sometimes an paths to Cwmyrhaiadr where a good track took us back to car. With SH. | wombourne | 16/07/2014 |
Start ~ 739974, Glaspwll. Followed bridleway then edge of forest to summit. Note bridleway now uses farm track to the east of the Nant Castell. Deep grass made for hard going, got a good soaking too, with Wombourne. | steve hudson | 15/07/2014 |
