Cefn Coch-Coety Mountain-Coety Mountain Boundary-Gwastad-Mynydd James-Mulfran from north. Couldn't say much about first 3 as visibility down to about 30m which made things interesting. Happily cleared for middle part of day.TK09/03/2024

Parked in the free car park by the duck pond at SO 21836 06176. Took the lane above the church to near Gwrhyd, then bracken-choked RoW east up the cwm onto the plateau. Then good tracks through the heather sea and pathless 80m to the summit. Returned mainly by outward route, but continued up Cwm Tyleri, and down to the reservoir for downward route. 2/6 Dewey day. From the end of the small road near the pub at Whistle Halt. Up FP to ridge, then north to Cefn Coch and back to path. Then along rough off road vehicle track along west side of Coity Mountain and up to near summit of Gwastad. Short navigation through heather. Back track to due west of Coity Mtn summit, then short cross country to the top. Descent to mine road and back to Whistle Halt. (S)silveracorn_alan21/07/2020

Parked on the road to the south of the trig point in thick mist and followed the track most of the way north up to the high point. Found I had taken the westerly track instead of the easterly one so had 350m of crossing heather at the end. Very bleak up here today and hardly any visibility. Keppt thinking I was going to loose the dog! Glad I had the GPS with me to identify the high point coords.Father Ted08/04/2019
3/3 - from CP at 2018109 - in fine weather - headed down track then onto ridge - windy from SW - ended up quite a lengthy ridge stroll - feels airy and is very empty as you head Swychwood19/02/2019

Coety Mountain, Coety Boundary Top and Gwastard ( careful how you say that one), with Scout from Big Pit car park; hard walking underfoot at times. Dry weather.Lou12/05/2018
Lots of space for parking at top of mountain road at 241033 – Followed vehicle track to 2339 0552 & then headed SE along a wide cleared area for about 140yd to the high point; this lies a couple of yards S. of the cleared area & is marked by a small pile of stones hidden in the heather. Circular route from Cwmtillery taking in Gwastad, Coety Mountain (and boundary 'top') Cefn Coach and Mynydd James. Heathery flat top - one of those where you feel that anywhere inside the final contour ring will do. Lovely sunny spring day, dry underfoot and skylarks above.milimana25/03/2017

From Gwrhyd up on bridle path and track south to point closest to HP. Then flog through heather (some cleared) and faint path to top.arranc19/09/2015
From summit of minor road followed track past trig point and fly tipped rubbish. Easy track to within 100m of summit, so where in the heather to the East. Last of 6 for the day to complete the 'county'PeterD16/08/2015

Continued from Coity Mountain, using the track. Summit area is just bumps and hollows. Needs a survey to find the true top. Hill Bagging NGR appears to be in a broad hollow. Descent via track to Gwrhyd. There's a lot of buildings there which look to be commercial. Followed road and path by llynback to car.MikeM28/03/2015
From top of British Road in thick mist out and back along track. Last bit was heather bashing but of the easier variety.SS17/03/2015

7/8 This was the second last part of major circuit of the 6 peaks on plateau....like all of the peaks here no trig pillar summit was a short journey to left from track around 600 metres or so.Fergalh13/12/2014
Starting from the bottom of the Cwmtillery resevoirs. We made our way up through the fields east of Cwmtillery and up onto Gwastad. We found that a lot of the rights of way shown on the map or nonexistent now. We did manage to find tracks most of the way along the ridge to take in Gwastad, Coity Mountain, Cefn Coch and Mynydd James. We had to fight across heather, tussock and blaeberry to reach the first three summits which was very tough walking. Trying to find our way back off Mynydd James was incredibly difficult. We ended up going very steeply downhill through 7ft bracken before eventually finding a path much further down. Wouldn't bother doing this again, but it was a fun day out. From Railway Centre and via Coity - good tracks, but boggy at bottom of hill nr Blaenavon/Big Pit whichever way you go.dicky04/05/2014

Took in summit as on the line of a big linear 30K+ day run on a very hot day with Rob Small between our two distant cars linking 4 marilyns N to S above the Valleys. Flagging well before the end in the heat, but enjoying the unusual contrasting mix of urban/ rural landscape; even the strongly smelling brown source factory near the end!Chris Pearson05/07/1997
