Parked at the start of a Forest road leading off the A6088 at 67723 07264, this would take you to the communications tower but I branched off and headed for the trig once I had reached the top of the zig zag section, returning the same way. Five mile in Two hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 01/10/2023 |
Up from carter bar lay by. Along good path to statue then steeply up bank. The long trudge to the pillar was reasonably dry today with evidence of peat restoration taking lace. Would be very wet earlier in the year. On arrival back at car leant my tyre pump to some motercyclstis who were repair g a puncture. Had a bacon roll from van whilst guys finished. | cjo | 21/05/2023 |
16:30, mist still down and temperature dropped to 7 degrees. Ascent via good path and spur to Carter Pike then beeline to summit. Couldn't see the white trig in the mist only 20 yards away. Descended by the border bog, less bad on the Scottish side. | Wycombe Wanderer | 12/05/2023 |
As others - up from Carter Bar. Wet and windy with poor visibility. 1st of 3 Humps today. | benalder284 | 07/01/2023 |
Up with the newish rebuilt cairn on Carter Pike and back down via the fence and bog. | Walker Dan | 09/11/2022 |
From Carter Bar with Pete- route amply described by others. A hardly sloping section before the rise to the HP was particularly awkward. On the way down, more relaxed after winding our way round bogs and getting to the HP, we noted the matting we had carefully walked across in places was slowing down the flow of water and allowing bog pools to develop. Be careful not to damage the matting! Great views to The Cheviot in front, on the way down. | pwheeler | 12/09/2022 |
Parking at Carter Bar. Good FP initially, peeled off R on ascending TR to top. Splidged back along border fence – no water shortage here. | Isbjorn | 05/08/2022 |
From Carter Bar for Carter Fell and Wool Meath. | rhalstead | 24/07/2022 |

From the parking at Carter Bar. Followed the border fence > Carter Fell. | JohnR | 20/12/2021 |
Parked at Carter Bar. Along the boardwalk then took the small grass path after the gate. Lucky that the weather had been dry, so not much bog. Interesting work evident higher up to preserve the peat bog. | LizH | 08/06/2021 |
Parked at the Carter Bar England/Scotland border viewpoint. There’s a nice boardwalk for the first 200mts. The public footpath heads further East then my route and I continued uphill. The initial steep ascent is wet but short lived and the ground is firm. On reaching the 544mts point the route changes and the ground is sodden. I stick to the border fence line but it’s very wet and I find myself jumping around to avoid the worst of the water. I could see the trig point in the distance and was pleased to finally get there. As I set off back towards the car park I decided to walk down the Northern side of the fence (Scotland) and this route was a lot drier. After about a km I jumped the fence back onto the English side to avoid the forestry pine trees. It was only just over an hour but my boots and feet were soaked through. | JamesJones | 26/03/2021 |
From the border car park at Carter Bar. Up the track (under improvement crossing the boggy section) used for some distance gaining height as a strong westerly gale, then up over into the wind, hard work in the gale. 5/5 HuMP | N.Morters | 31/10/2020 |
Run up from Carter Bar and the Border viewpoint. Was very boggy despite the relatively dry weather. Saw Hen Harrier, and was plagued by biting flies on the summit. Ran up mostly in Scotland and down in England. Time 40 minutes for 3 miles. | isabelle | 24/07/2020 |
Carter Fell from top of pass at Carter Bar. Ascent along the border fence, return via Carter Pike and the public FP. Very misty and wet underfoot. A round trip of 7km with 200m ascent in 1h30m. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 10/07/2020 |

Parked at Carter Bar (on the English side as Scotland was still under Covid-19 travel restrictions!). Alongside fence: once up the main slope, cross wooden railings to north side where there is a faint path. Boggy - a good one for the wellies. | PGCE | 02/07/2020 |

From Carter Bar took the path SSW to approx 691054 then headed directly to the summit. Descended along the boundary fence with GB. Probably best route up and down alongside the fence. 90 minute return. | bolton | 14/01/2018 |
From Carter Bar. Would have been very wet underfoot but thankfully all ice. | Campbell Singer | 18/12/2017 |
Up from Carter Bar. Walking against the clock. Blue skies, very windy (almost blowing me over), bog, bog, bog... knee deep in bog several times. Looks like the ground has almost fully recovered from the bikes. Absolutely stunning views and beautiful solitude... lots of tourists at Carter Bar though. 1.5 hours there and back including stoppage time for filming. | NorthernWayfarer | 25/10/2017 |
With Jenx and Bryher from Carter Bar viewpoint and tea hut. Trail spoilt by bikes. Immediately after gate jump the fence to left to avoid boggy sections. When thru far gate aim up to border fence and at small gate get into its North side. A half decent path all way, still a bog trot but much better than South side which has been churned up by retched trailbikes. Excellent views all around. Lashings of tea when we returned to lay-by | nordicstar | 23/09/2017 |
Pretty soggy! | jenx | 23/09/2017 |

Carter Bar to large cairn on Carter Pike via diagonal track, then heathery moor to top. Midges were horrific at trig. Returned along fence, a soggy mile. Disappointing, thought this would be an enjoyable amble! | Aye Jimmy | 07/09/2016 |
quick up and down from layby carter bar. | robertphillips | 03/07/2016 |
Parked at Carter Bar and followed track and then forest fence onto top. Top very wet, standing water all the way to the trig. Went to the east and picked up the old mine track back to Carter Bar, coffee and bagpipes. Ground improved becoming drier. No view at all, all in cloud with some rain. | MikeM | 26/05/2016 |

On own, from Carter Bar. Carter Fell NE top, then Wooplaw Edge, Leap Hill, Hungry Law and Lumsdon Law. 10.7 miles, 2000ft ascent. Hard going on rough, boggy ground. | Crib Goch | 06/06/2014 |
A hot day from Carters bar layby. Very boggy and mossy underfoot makes it a hill with little interest other than the great views of the Cheviot's, Eildon Hills, Ruber Law, Tinto and others. Saw a herd of wild goats numbering about thirty in total. | thenomad | 31/05/2014 |
A third of these border hills counted in both English, Scottish and total figures (also Windy Gyle and The Schill.) | arranc | 10/06/2013 |
