On walk to newton tor trig pillar from akeld., cool breeze but dry with gliders overhead.cjo24/03/2024
Very cold strong wind for this time of year, but still an enjoyable outing wandering around these peaceful lonely hills.Alex C23/03/2024
Trig. Paths all the way but Heather and tussocks . Blustery sunny day. Number 3 from Wooler.Denise 03/02/2024
Good path/track from Yeavering Bell but hard work into the strong wind. Levelish short heather/grass summit with trig at high point.RichardM03/02/2024
Hethpool CP to Great Hetha, Trowupburn, Loft Hill, Saughieside Hill, Blackhaggs Rigg, Southernknowe, Coldburn Hill, Hare Law, Wester Tor, Newton Tors, Easter Tor, Hethpool Linn & Hethpool CP. A fine, mild day, blustery on the felltops with excellent distant visibility.Vin21/09/2023
White Law, Yeavering Bell, Newton Tors, Hare Law, Coldburn Hill, Fredden Hillkeithouk04/08/2023
After The Bell, via bridge over College Burn and up to Pt. 518, then to trig Pt and Hare Law. On to Preston Hill and back to Hethpool via College ValleyIanHHill17/03/2023
From The Bell, crossing the bridge at NT9020 2849, and following St Cuthbert's Way to just after a group of trees, and before Torleehouse. Cut up to a gate and track visible above, then followed ATV tracks to the summit. Pleasant high level walk. Descended the NW shoulder, but missed where a good track came down, picking it up by crossing through bracken on an animal track lower down. Descended to a gate just E of the main bridge. (Lots of goats on the hill.)LizH11/10/2022
College Valley, NT894280, road to Southernknowe, then up good ATV track to col at NT902251, then N on ATV track to Hare Law and Newton Tors and pt.518, where lost AV track – deep veg descent then bracken down to un-named burn, finally nettles, ouch, to gate in deer fence NT907283, back along St Cuthbert’s Way to CP.Isbjorn07/08/2022
From Hethpool car park for a round of Broadhope Hill, Preston Hill and Newton Tors.rhalstead01/05/2022
P Kirknewton, came up on tracks via West Hill & Easter Tor with Alexander. On to Hare Law for lunch out of the way of the cold wind.agentmancuso10/04/2022
From Hethpool car parking, using atv track for a short way, then following the blue water pipe, and finally the wall. Steeper than I would have liked after a longish morning walk. Then on to The Bell.NormanW07/03/2022
Late evening hike from the cottage at Coldburn using the track up from near Southernknowe over the shoulder of Hare Law, and to the trig on Newton Tors. Returned the same way, diverting to visit the cairn on Hare Law en route. Solo.Man of Kernow115/06/2021
After descending from Great Hetha I walked along the minor road towards the RAF memorial. I then took off towards Southernknowe farm and shortly afterwards I started to climb up towards Hare Law. Again the slope is firm and covered in short grass. I reached Hare Law and turned North Easterly through the heather. The grounds a little wet but after a little hopping around I reached Newton Tors. The views are great up here in every direction. It’s still too cold to linger so set off towards first Easter Tor and then Yeavering Bell. At the foot of Yeavering Bell I turned onto the St Cuthberts Way and that took me back to Hethpool car park.JamesJones22/03/2021
Verge parking at Akeld > White Law > Yeavering Bell > Newton Tors along tracks and paths. Return on tracks via Commonburn House and Scaldhill.JohnR01/12/2020
A very long walk from Brown’s Law car park, Wooler Common. Came up past Commonburn House to Hare Law then up to summit trig. Visited Wester Tor an Easter Tor on the way to Yeavering Bell. Solo.Dangerous Dave26/07/2020
3/3 Dewey day. Cold Law, Broadhope Hill, Preston Hill, Hare Hill, Newton Tors and Coldburn Hill from Langleeford. Gale force winds and sodden underfoot added to the feeling of remoteness of this far northern corner of England. 21km in 6h20m. (S)silveracorn_alan06/07/2020
Parking at Hethpool. Great Hetha, Preston Hill, Hare Law, Newton Tors.PGCE15/05/2020
from the cp, over the bridge, took track east and through a deer fence with gate, along side of the fence to a wall, and up to the the top.robertphillips25/01/2020
Only one top on this eight mile Dewey walk from the free car park in Hethpool. route out and back used St Cuthbert's way and then the footpath along side Easter Tor. This makes for a lovely early morning walk and gives plenty of time to find the wild goats on the Newton Tors (I found them on Easter Tor on my return).WAYNE ROWLETT21/11/2019
Good car park at NT 8939 2801. From there a 13k round of Great Hetha -> White Hill -> The Bell -> Newton Tor -> Hare Law. Only tricky bit was negotiating the col between The Bell and Newton Tor.jonglew09/10/2019
Easter Tor > Newton Tors > Wester Tor > Hare Law from GR:ronaldo33320/08/2019
Easter Tor > Newton Tors > Wester Tor > Hare Law from GR:Hippster20/08/2019
With K in a round with Preston Hill. Approach from Southernknowe is good. Car access to the College Valley can be obtained by staying in the valley.Ashley12/08/2019
Hills to W of Wooler. Parked by minor road a little before Brown's Law. Humbleton Hill(nice summit), White Law, Yeavering Bell (both summits), camped overnight below summit, then wet conditions to the flat summit of Newton Tors an descent E to road heading to start point.RobertP11/08/2019
Rebagged again - blazingly hot day, but breezy up top.Jhimmy25/07/2019
K Ascended from Hethpool via waterfall and Torleehouse FP (start from Old Yeavering for a slightly shorter walk). FPs marked by quad tracks followed to Easter Tor where Dad stopped looking at the view, while I continued on to Wester Tor and summit trig. Trig is on a boggy flat top bypassed by the FP with guardian pools for the unwary. Family groups of feral goats and silent apart from bird song. Breezy day clouding over.crazy22/06/2019
Revisit, after Hare Law, down via Wester Tor (NT 90739 27284, P3m), P Hethpool, snowstorm arrived a bit earlier than was ideal, briefly a bit grim with an icy crosswind.RHW10/03/2019
From Hethpool, via short section of St Cuthbert'sv Way, and a bracken ascent to Wester Tor, squeezing mid-height through a fence en route. On above the bracken, the prospect in all directions is superb, especially of the hummocky hills around Hethpool and the dark gash of Bizzle Crags across the Cheviot. Easy walking to the summit of Newton Tors and the cairn on Hare Law, then more bracken on descent.Nick Down128/07/2018
From Hethpool car park. Very windy but sunny. From 990283 along the fence but one deer fence to get through. Bracken a nuisance. Descended directly north but bracken still a problem on this solo walk.bolton14/06/2018
From Hethpool followed St Cuthbert's Way, took a detour to see the waterfall (Hethpool Linn), then shortly after waterfall turned off path and headed up Easter Tor along a clear farm path. Saw the wild goats. Then followed path to Wester Tor but took a more direct route to Wester Tor through the snow. Then headed to summit top. Lots of snow at summit and great views of a white Cheviot. Weather was amazing. Blue skies, no wind, snow on the ground. Absolutely nobody there. Had it all to myself. Headed to Hare Law and then started following a path towards Coldburn Hill but somehow got led astray and ended up going down in a straight line from Hare law to a ford at the bottom. The river was in spate so couldn't cross ford, so headed back along a very marshy and overgrown footpath. Great day though.NorthernWayfarer07/01/2018
Easter Tor, Wester Tor and Hare Law. CC walk with TMD. Mixed weather, sun and rain!meltdiceburg21/10/2017
From Hethpool, with Jenx and Bryher. Down the College valley road on foot, super sunny autumn day. Right round to Goldscleugh (could drive here) and direct up Preston hill beside felled plantation. Then the fence line to col, Coldburn Hill then more roughly across to track leading over Hare Law and Newton Tor. Fine views all around, steeply down wall line then fence to Hethpool bridge and car.nordicstar26/09/2017
Interesting rocky tors. A bit of a long moor plod from Preston Hilljenx26/09/2017
From Hethpool car park by St Cuthbert's Way to Torleehouse then up row to Easter Tor and on to Newton Tor trig, descending by Hare Law and Southernknowe before road walk back to car park passing memorial to thirteen WW2 aircraft crashes (twelve different aircraft types).SS24/09/2017
From minor road north of Hethpool at NT 89634 29061. Over The Bell to the bridge and up to the top.Alan Moore28/10/2016
Hethpool - Meml - Southernknowne - Hare Law - Wester Tor (Newton Tor) - Easter Tor - Torleehouse - Hethpool (along river path).briandavies26/10/2016
From Hare Law. Trig on boggy flat area, the tor is lower and further away. Continued to Easter Tor (pity this isn't a tick) then descended to West Hill, passing a herd of goats on the way.Aye Jimmy12/07/2016
Parked at junction of B6351 & track in Old Yeavering (NT92378 30382) – SW along track & then up St Cuthbert’s Way to 923287 – Over ladder stile & up good track that takes you to within 120m of summit. (DB)gerrybowes19/08/2015
A walk taking in Broadhope Hill, Preston Hill and Newton Tors. Start in Harthope valley at NT 95397E 22508N. Took narrow path until it merged with track coming from NE of Langleeford. Followed track to col and turned L on permissive track. Then handrailing on fence all way round to near Commonburn House. Dropped down to Commonburn House. Followed a track to Broadstruther. Cut back R on good path and eventually track that leads to R turn to Broadhope Hill. Shooting country this, a patchwork of heather in various stages of growth. Good tracks and quod bike tracks. Where no tracks there is a path. Good walk. Bit damp in places today but nothing serious. Almost stepped on a slow worm?MikeM05/06/2015
Bagged with Phil Cooper and Iain Brown.Dugswell209/11/2014
Ascent from Hethpool, up the side of what was once a conifer plantation. Bouldery ground under bracken. Easy on top, friendly descent towards Yeavering Bell. Very windyfasgadh27/10/2013
from Hethpool car park, back along the road, St Cuthbert's Way briefly, over bridge and south on the east bank. Thrash uphill through bracken and follow a stone wall uphill to the open moor.arranc18/08/2013
Easy walk on good tracks from Yeavering Bell, except for final 100 yards or so to the trig pointwhich has no tracks to it.Crib Goch30/12/2012
A very slow tiring slog taking a direct line to the summit north of the trees (from Hethpool car park). There is no discernible track upwards and it is a slow trudge through head high bracken and tussocky grass.moorsman15/08/2012
Easy parking at Old Yeavering. Tracks all the way bar 100m.destaylor07/06/2012
Excellent walk from Old Yeavering via Commonburn House to the three torrs on the top.Walker Dan19/02/2012
Signed path from Yeavering Bell. Hail shower on summit & then headed for St Cuthbert's Way into Wooler.Smudge03/12/2011
From Old Yeavering. Track but kept to W side of wall higher up then newly marked track nearly to top. Flat and wet round the trig. Lovely weather.chrisbien12/11/2011
With David M and Gary. Nice day. Saw lots of goats on the slopes. There's a track from the north that winds around the east and finally towards the summit for easy walking.Jhimmy25/09/2011
