From a pull in at Cover bridge to the South East where there is space for a couple of cars (01432 78882) ideal as this should take less than Two hours for this Four mile walk through access land following a track faint in places and boggy throughout). | WAYNE ROWLETT | 09/12/2023 |
Parking near start of track not welcomed by the owner of Grange House.. Ended up parking to NE by bridge and walking back along road. Good track up hill then past shooting butts to fence and ATV track almost to top. | PeterD | 11/08/2023 |
From West Burton, up over Harland Hill and along atv tracks by wall and fence to gate and through to top. | Flatfield | 25/02/2023 |
Up the track from E of Grange Farm then along the ridge to Buckden Pike. | sclater | 28/01/2023 |
Circular walk from nr Grange Farm(very limited parking) via Brown Haw, Buckden pike, and Naughtberry. Pleasantly wintery. With B and R | jenx | 19/01/2023 |
Mantelshelf useful. Limited parking on the manicured verges at Kentucky House. Track up from Grange House (no parking here) is steep, to gate in wall. E on ATV, but goes level, whereas the mapped, ascending ATV is over a weld-meshed gate, again steeply to white topped marker post. 10 metres above this post an ATV descends slightly, SW, then turns SE, directly up a line of shooting butts, nearly to ridge fence, which is plentifully marked as electric. Good ATV tk on other side goes SW, closely passing top. In descent, the weld-meshed gate can be negotiated with a mantelshelf manoeuvre morphing into an a’cheval position | Isbjorn | 29/08/2022 |
2 of 3: Parked at Cover Bridge 014787. Up the road to the gate onto the Access Land. ATV tracks near the top lead to the cairns. With Karen. | ChrisR | 27/04/2022 |
Verge parking near Grange Farm for a circuit of Brown Haw (up track, then along fence), Tor Mere Top, Buckden Pike and Naughtberry Hill. | PGCE | 17/03/2022 |
Good parking by the bridge on minor road to the north east. Then steeply up track before Grange Farm and follow the Grouse butts. The fence on the summit ridge says electrified but isn't.....at least when i visited!
Region 35 Dodds completed. | Alan Caine | 18/12/2021 |
24 miles 3426ft walk. Start at Kettlewell, to Tor Mere Top, Brown How and Harland Hill, back to Kettlewell. | stephenbuda | 14/08/2021 |
After Tor Mere Top I took a straight line through the grass and bog to the end of Windle Side then followed the fence line for what felt like forever before I got to Brown Haw. | Wheelsy | 31/07/2020 |
Circular route from West Burton. Harland Hill, Brown Haw, Buckden Pike, Naughtberry Hill. Excellent weather and open moors | RobertP | 18/07/2020 |
Short walk. Wanted to do Naughtberry Hill but some officious gamekeeper wouldn’t let me walk up the track from opposite Hill Top. Very rude. Will write a letter to the estate office complaining. Anyway over stile by gate between Grange Farm and Uncles Farm House. Followed track to a wall. Generally steep. Through a gate to a track which runs left and right. Went right for a few metres and crossed fence at a low point. Looks like sheep use this point, fence has a lot of fleece on it. Up again steeply. Starts to flatten out and took a direct route towards summit. As gained height peat hags started to appear . They ran parallel to my route so used them to finish to the summit fence. If an electric one someone is saving electricity. No current running. Over fence and over to summit. Returned same way. | MikeM | 06/07/2020 |
Parked at the top of Park Rash (SD 985 757). Followed bridleway to ridge, then north along field boundary to Little Whernside, back along ridge to Great Whernside, back down to car at Park Rash. Headed off along track to old mine then out across tough country to Brown Haw. 25km with 600m ascent in 7hours. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 20/05/2020 |
Small collection of stones on very flat summit. | vegibagger | 07/02/2020 |
From Grange Farm, good parking spot at SD 9896 8088. Good farm track (v. steep) up to SD 9941 8066, whence it was rough and still steep going to the top. | jonglew | 11/12/2019 |

As Des Taylor. Parked on wide grass verge 30yd beyond start of track at 989808 - Up to gate at end of track - Through gate & over wire fence using convenient wooden step - Up grass ramp to line of shooting butts & continued up to electric? fence - Crossed fence using wooden step at 997800 & then made way to summit cairn. (PM) | gerrybowes | 10/01/2018 |
Parked on the bend where a track heads steeply ESE. A reasonably easy 70 minute return following the shooting butts. With GB. | bolton | 10/01/2018 |
An electric fence runs NE-SW just to the NW of the highest point. I didn't see any easy way of crossing it. | Alan Moore | 27/10/2017 |
From Walden Head. Took the track steeply up the flank of the fell just east of Grange Farm, then path up beside butts and through peat hags to the summit cairn. Had to keep clear of a grouse shooting party. Walk continued to Buckden Pike. With RP and BC. | Man of Kernow1 | 23/08/2017 |
With Alfie. Dreary route following electric fence from parking area at Little Hunters Sleets. A long walk but without difficulty to an uninspiring summit. Not one I will do again. No dogs permitted on this Access Land. | Dangerous Dave | 06/07/2017 |
From Great Hunter Sleets passing ruin then rough but never tough going to fence and cairn. Return on roughly the same line. | SS | 20/05/2017 |
Start at very end of road in Walden Dale. Mowed grass doesn't look like parking area but resident of house says he maintains it for walkers to park. Naughtberry Hill, Buckden Pike, Tor Mere Top(be advised electric fence on top of wall so if you want to visit top keep to west of wall by going through gate at public right of way) Brown Haw (a dilemma - substantial new electric fence all along the ridge - summit is south of fence while return route is to north so go prepared unless you're parked in valley to SE). | ijpowell | 17/06/2016 |
Similar route to Amblerbob and Jo.With ruin 75 yards to NW,there is good track continuing NE past shaft and waterfall to wall corner. Then track uphill but after that tracks come and go to ridge fence. At least there are no steep bits on this route and the start is only 10 minutes drive from Kettlewell. | catman | 08/04/2016 |
With Jo, from Great Hunters Sleets: track north to derelict building, then NE on various tracks (none continuous) to ridge fence, then alongside this to Brown Haw. Weather; generally sunny, breezy, mild, good visibility. | amblerbob | 25/03/2016 |
As Moorsman. At end of track there is a gate. A grass covered ramp/path goes off leftwards - this leads to a line of shooting buts which have a good 'path' to ridge then a new electric fence - top strand. Easy to summit. | destaylor | 12/11/2015 |

Ample verge side parking on the road to Walden (west side). There is an access gate just before Grange Farm which easily accommodates a car without blocking entry. A solid based shooting track starts directly opposite and can be followed half way up to the summit. From here a little deft searching reveals vehicular tracks serving the shooting butts up to the summit ridge. (The butts are very much still active, despite the map suggesting that they are disused) | moorsman | 29/01/2014 |
