Just room for a small car parked close in on the Eskholme road after the bridge over the old railway. An enjoyable and fairly evenly-graded ascent along the ridge to Castle Knott, visiting its WNW top and Calf Top, where the summit cairn is on the other side of the fence from the attractively decorated trig point.Nick Down105/05/2022

An easy circuit from Barbon towards Eskholme, then on to Devil's Crag and eventually Calf Top. Then down Middleton Fell to Mill House and Barbon. Lovely bright and breezy November day.oldbagger2728/11/2017
Did this on way down from Calf Top. Parked in Barbon. Took the very quiet country lane via Middleton as far as Middleton Hall Bridge and then took the bridleway to GR 6303 8914. Then followed the footpath up Fellside and all the way back to Barbon. The weather was fantastic and the views were amazing; Sedburgh and the Howgill Fells, the Lakeland Fells, Morecombe Bay and Dentdale. I have to say that this is now one of my favourite walks. Regarding other potential routes, I noticed a couple of things. 1) There's a permissive path at Low Stockdale Bridge GR 6267 8685 which takes you up Brow Gill and gets you on the Open Access Land. 2) There are ladder styles at the top of Combe Scar (GR 6741 8744) and Weather Ling Hill (GR 6736 8691) so I assume it is possible to come up this way. 3) There is a layby on the A683 so another possibility is to start here. That way, you can have a pint or cream tea in Barbon before doing the road walk back.tsharp08/07/2017
