Diversion off PW on way from Mill HIll to Snake Pass. Remarkable how featureless this hill is. Uniformly wet grassland but not too wet anywhere after snow melt and showers. Featureless isn't so bad when it means no peat hags! With Pete.pwheeler18/03/2023
PW then a beeline for the summit of Featherbed Top then linked up with PW further in before heading to Mill Hill. The PW is paved all the way which makes it quick but detracts somewhat too. 1h 54m 5.87 miles.clivevilla14/02/2023

Up in Leeds for a hen-do and decided the best way to shake off a hangover was via some walking in the peaks on the way home. Did a few miles north of the reservoir at Crowden before driving south to pick up this hill. Heavens opened just as I got out the car with sideways icy rain, and stopped just as I returned soaked to the core. Oh well, another hill done.MysteriousSue03/10/2021

Started at Snake Pass. It was sunny and cool perfect walking weather. This was primarily a revisit to Bleaklow. Last time I was here was nearly 30 years ago on a wet and windy day with zero visibility. I remember spending ages trying to find the summit and being uncertain hence the revisit. Today was a simple walk along the Pennine Way to Bleaklow. On route I saw plenty of Red Grouse, Meadow Pipits and Ravens. As I arrived at the large cairn I saw Golden Plovers and a beautiful Short Eared Owl. I must have got lucky as with the early start I was on my own. I visited the large cairn and found the tiny cairn marking the true summit. I visited the neighbouring vegetated peat hag as well. Great views to Manchester and north to the South Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. On the way back I went via Higher Shelf Stones where I saw a few lone walkers. There were lots of Wheatears and Meadow Pipits in the rocks. I headed back to the Pennine Way via the crashed Superfortress. When I got back to the isabelle03/08/2021

Nice windy afternoon out on the paved path from Snake Pass - left the path for Featherbed Top then down to Mill Hill, before turning back over the road and heading off across the peat to Higher Shelf Stones. Decided to leave Bleaklow Head for a day when I have time to get across to Alport Moor too :) Caution needed when leaving toward the west - it's on a bit of a blind crest and the layby is angled away from the road, anyone going much above the limit (and there are a few!) will struggle to slow down for youthe_adam30/03/2015

My Third summit of almost Five hills visited on a 19 mile cicular from the Snake pass, visiting The Tower at Alport Castles, Alport Moor (bypassing summit) Grains in the water, Bleaklow stones, Bleaklow hill (although missed summit)Wain stones, Hern stones, Higher Shelf stones and then after dropping down and up to gain Doctors gate path to take me onto the PW, it was an easy walk up,Summit area is pretty large but I walked to where spot height is recorded,a short distance from Grouse butt. Exited by taking route across Salvin Ridge (much more wet)down a very steep embankment to gain forestry track, over Lady clough and then over the Ashop to walk parallel to the Snake pass before rejoining it. A fantastic day of Blue sky, Buzzards, Grouse and Scrambling!!Dazingdale18/04/2014
