Gilderdale horseshoe from Gilderdale bridge layby - Grey Nag, Tom Smith's Stone Top, Blackfell, Hartside Height, Benty Hill and Scarberry Hill. Overcast, blowy day. With Gillian and Graham | richard69 | 13/11/2021 |

From Gray Nag via Hartside Height. In spite of the headwind, it seemed easier than the outward journey; probably best sticking to the fence. Some sunshine but the higher summits back in cloud now so I've been lucky. Back to start. 5 hours 40mins. | Wycombe Wanderer | 20/01/2020 |
Added to Nuttalls walk after Black fell solo | colinfielding | 31/12/2019 |

From NY 6772 4241, roadside verge parking for 1 or 2 cars. Followed ATV track to the top, past a line of 13 grouse butts. | jonglew | 21/09/2018 |
13.3 mile circular from Castle Nook farm. Walked along Pennine Way south towards Alston then followed walled track onto the moors, climbed over easy walls onto Park Fell Summit and trig then left summit enclosure under barbed wire in broken wall, followed pathless but fairly easy ridge onto Benty Hill (all fence crossings are easy not barbed after Park Fell), then ascended Hartside Height onto Black Fell, followed broad ridge to Tom Smiths Stone Top Nuttall then Grey Nag, the numerous bogs on the way are still fairly dry at the minute. From Grey Nag descended east pathless at first then ATV track to Little Heaplaw, and descended steeply down to road, along road back to start. High Cloud/sunny, unsurprisingly saw no one all day. | DanTrig | 04/08/2018 |
From Alston via Park Fell. | Coxswain | 20/06/2018 |
Up from the road, parking by the wee house as described by others. Just Bryher today, bit soggy and wet underfoot, nice cairn on summit. | nordicstar | 30/01/2018 |
Straight up from A686 through open gate onto hillside. No path. With Eire, Evan, Coel, Danu & Alfie. Walked down the ridge over Scarberry Hill (598m) and Park Fell (511m) then down for a pint in Alston. | Dangerous Dave | 18/06/2017 |
Parked at small lay by on A686 near bend across from old house. Followed shooting track to fence line, followed this to summit. | Alan Caine | 11/06/2017 |
Parked on small layby on A686 opposite disused stone building at NY 65826 42317. Quad-bike track heads south from here to ridge fence then carries on alongside fence to summit. A bit boggy in places but mostly easy tromping. | David Gradwell | 02/11/2016 |

From Hartside Height. Rough and wet ground on a very hot sunny day | route685 | 19/07/2016 |
From SE, pull-in on A686 - opposite side of road to small copse. Then gate and grousers' track mentioned by others. Very boggy in parts. | Aye Jimmy | 25/11/2015 |
From a layby on the A686 near Meathaw Hill disused Quarries, a couple of hundred yards back towards Hartside, through a gate and then an obvious grouse shooters track that goes right to the summit. | Fisky Boy | 11/09/2014 |

Having bagged my last Lakes Nuttall in the morning, nipped over to northern Pennines Nuttalls tomorrow. Meanwhile a pleasant diversion to Benty Hill and Park Fell, and return via Maiden Way. | ijpowell | 19/06/2014 |
With Jo, two walks from Hartside Cross. In morning followed fence to Benty Hill (excellent views down the Gilderdale Valley), and then in afternoon to Fiend’s Fell. Weather; generally sunny with high intermittent clouds, warm, good visibility. | amblerbob | 26/05/2014 |
With G. From A686 NY 678 424 > Maiden Way > Melmerbey Fell > Fiend's Fell > Hartside Height > Benty Hill > start. | RT1970 | 30/06/2013 |
From Harbut Law, a round of Gray Nag, Tom Smith's Stone, Black Fell, Benty Hill and Park Fell. | rhalstead | 17/02/2013 |
Along Fence from Park Fell and back. Very wet underfoot. | Crib Goch | 24/11/2012 |
Small pull-in suitable for a couple of cars alongside the Alston road. Tried to follow the fence line upwards but became sucked in by the boggy ground. Moved a short distance away and came across A vehicle track which ran straight towards the top cutting off the angle of the fence. Followed it back down to the roadside access point. | moorsman | 24/06/2010 |
