I've bagged all the Lake District tops including moved and deleted tops but Napes Needle (Deleted Nuttall)had been the one exception. Ascent from Seathwaite with Graham Uney mountaineering. Took the arête route and up to the last crack before the top. Didn't actually stand on the top but my hand was within a couple of feet of the summit so I feel justified in claiming the bag and making this my Lake District completion.DC11main31/08/2023

Good day out with Eddie and Rick. Happy to ascend as a mere second to complete the Cumbrian summits - out of my league as a lead climb.mae19/07/2018
Repeat climb nearly 30 years after first ascent with Mark T. Michael Earnshaw and Eddie Dealtry my capable seconds. Up the Wasdale Arête this time as opposed to the Wasdale Crack first time. Had a look at the Obverse Route but thought it harder than necessary for reverse lead and seconds. Up the traditional nose on good holds, camming device down below on East side of top block for top belay and help with leaders downclimb. Nice big hawser in situ at belay to keep all safe, all downclimbed the arête though rather than ab off. Great sunny weather day.nordicstar19/07/2018
Seconded with Mae up Wasdale Arete and over the traditional nose. Ably led by Nordicstar. Grand day for it.Eddie19/07/2018

Done in excellent weather with Ian Oddy who I met at Styhead Pass. He had no idea what to expect and thought Wainwright had actually done the walk. Once over this Grade 2 Scramble he thought otherwise. We went on scrambling around what Wainwrights Guide calls the 'Dress Circle' to Sphinx Rock. Whatever it may be called I just make my own route and this guy followed nervously but bubbling with elation.Aimless Rambler11/07/2013

Classic Climb bagging on a sunny weekend. Climbed Bowfell Buttress at 7am on a sunny morning from a high camp at Angle Tarn with Steve then on to Napes on Great Gable to climb Tophet Wall and for me to lead Napes Needle - another ambition after being taken up it 3 years ago - then back to camp and down to Langdale.Chris Pearson07/05/1989

Led up standard route by Colin Kenning on a Vibram MC meet. I was just learning to climb, bring taught by Colin. Gripped but thrilled! At the time an ambition achieved.I caught the climbing bug from these early days. Climbed just 2 weeks before the centenary of the 1st ascent by Walter Haskett Smith the 'father of British rock climbing' who climbed up and down unroped in nailed boots leaving his handkerchief on the top as a calling card. He wrote a very detailed account of his ascent stating that wondering once up if the descent would be harder, and that he was very glad once down onto solid ground again - as I was.Chris Pearson14/06/1986

For 6 months I was a member of the East Yorkshire Mountaineering club. After being successfully, but reluctantly, pulled up and lowered down this one (and Pillar Rock) I decided that I preferred terra firma (and the firmer, the less terror)moorsman25/09/1968

As budding climbers still at school walked from Langdale especially to climb Napes Needle and Innominate Crack that we'd seen pictures of. Climbed back down the Needle. Done several times since, by various routes.Aye Jimmy20/05/1961
