A rather boggy circuit from Steel Fell car park (road to Dobgill still closed). Up past Harrop Tarn, then wet and brackeny along edge of forest to Brown Rigg. Hard pull over Blea Tarn Fell, then easier to Standing Crag and High Saddle. Hit Wythburn Fell spot on with the GPS and easy descent. Added 5 Birketts and a Fellranger.BURGESS06/07/2023

Day out with Tony. Parked at Steel End. There is now a locked gate preventing onward access to the old Dobgill CP.chriswatson21/06/2023
13 Birkets after 4 weeks no rain - bone dry apart from (thankfully) a few springs. Road all closed off, so a bit of a trudge along the road after Fisher Crag back to start at Steel End carpark. Hd hoped to drop off bike at descent point to road.Dave Sargent13/06/2023

Take the road to the barn where the sign shows you the the way, continue through the gates and along the path up steeply to the wall, continue through the gap and head for Birk Crag top. back to the wall and over a few Knolls too Wythburn Fell top.Continue up over more small top to the top of the stream at Grid 2932 1181 and then descend steep and rocky ground making your way to the Knoll top of Middle How. Grid 2964 1100. descend to the path and cross the stream continue on this path to the bridge cross and follow the path back to the start.smocks and denims22/04/2022
3/4 Parked Dob Gill cp, up north edge of the plantation direct to summit of Brown Rigg, contoured round plantation to pick up the path back down to Harrop Tarn, from where over to Birk Crag and up to Wythburn Fell. Then contour/climbing along this pretty ridge almost to Greenup Edge, dropping down steep slopes of Greenhow Crags (just to South of the crags) onto Middle How which felt tiny. Hard to realise it is only 100 metres lower than Wythburn Fell. Lovely evening walk back down the Wythburn valley to the reservoir and walk along the reservoir edge to car. 4.5 hours. A good 'mop up' walk for hills missed on other rounds.nickywood131/08/2021
With Sue from Steel End car park, taking in Middle How, Ullscarf via SE shoulder. Interesting walk over to Wythburn Fell and Birk Crag in mist and rain.Frank08/07/2021

On a very leisurely second round of Birketts. It’s amazing that this massive area of wilderness exists right in the centre of The Lake District. Bumped into the red deer herd again, after seeing them earlier on Bell Crags. With Alfie. A nice summit rock, but the cairn at 515m would seem a better choice for a “summit”. Visited the large cairn lower down too.Dangerous Dave18/04/2021

Parked at Dobgill Bridge car park (currently free of charge) – After bagging Standing Crag, headed up path towards Ullscarf for about ¾km before contouring across to the knobbly E. ridge of Ullscarf – Down ridge past a few small tarns & then a short climb to the obvious summit. From Ullscarf on way back to Dob Gill. One of many rocky knolls hereabouts. Curious feature on knoll lower down: from above looks to be large cairn. When there, appears to be short, pointless piece of wall!Aye Jimmy09/09/2015

Mild day, cloudy, misty on top of the higher mountains. Rained in the middle of the day off and on, but it was a good day. Very boggy underfoot.rjlowndes10/03/2012
