Parked at Balsporran Cottages. Circular walk taking in A' Mharconaich (973.2m) Bruach nan Iomairean (969.8m), Beinn Udlamain (1010.2m), An Sgulan (865m), Old Sgairneach Mhor (963m), Sgairneach Mhor (991m), Sgairneach Mhor E Top (758m) and the Sow of Atholl (798.9m). Then a separate circular walk around Geal-charn (917.1m) at the end due to an error at the start. Generally clear and sunny but cloud on some summits, still a nice walk with some snow on the ground but not too much. I'd made a mistake at the start but was confident I'd be able to climb this munro at the end as a separate walk, I got back to the car at 5pm from the main loop and set off. This had been in cloud at the start so it wouldn't have made any difference, but had cleared for most of the day. I knew I wouldn't be quick enough, I got to the south cairn and enjoyed the great view from there but the cloud dropped onto the summit before I made it. I continued from the summit to the valley head and dropped back. /Dmeltdiceburg01/04/2024

Prepositioned second car at the road to take us back to Balsporran Cottages to save the 4km cycle path walk. Blustery but generally clear and an enjoyable walk. Quick blast up these 2 hills with AJL on a cold and snowy May day. My original plan had been to do the Annochs but the weather further west was horrible and so a quick dander on these 2 Munros was a good option. Felt quite fit and enjoyed the near whiteout conditions on fhe top of the 2nd hill. Managed to yomp down a snow slope on the way back which was helpful but very very wet and a bit cold when we got back to the car 3 hour walkslynch04/05/2013

Bagged from Beinn Udlamain really, in the interest of doing all 4 Drumochter Munros in a day. We went 30m up the SW ridge of A'Mharconaich to avoid steep ground then made a bee line for the S ridge Geal-charn. Good visibility was helpful, being high above Loch Ericht gave enjoyment. Going back over A'Mharconaich to return to Coire Dhomhain we saw a Dottrell and many 'arctic' Anarta melanopa mothspwheeler22/05/2007

We crossed the railway line and followed the path up Allt Coire Fhar. As soon as we crossed the Alt Beul an Sporan burn we struck uphill following a clear path used by all terrain vehicles – there was no mention of this track in the guide book. The track was clear up onto the shoulder of Geal Charn, but low cloud made the route finding a little tricky. On the shoulder at NN 605 785 I resorted to my compass for direction to the summit. Whilst the summit was obvious I did not see the tall cairns along the way as mentioned in the guidebook. It was a bit wild and windy for Pat on the top. Pat doubted my sense of direction when leaving the summit and heading for the col between Geal Charn and A’Mharconaich, but I was spot on.langskill11/08/1997

The four Munros west of Drumochter RHW14/05/1989
Round of 4 W Drumochter Munros with Mark W on a murky day with only occasional views. Parked underneath the Boar & then walked back up the line of the A9 to pick up the track on the N side of the Allt Coire Dhomhain. Forded the river & headed for NE spur of Sgaineach Mhor. Rounded head of corrie to Beinn Udlamain. Continued to A'Mharconaich, then picked a line across to regain ridge out to Geal Charn. Continued NE to have a look at the then substantial cairns. Down to Balsporran & then a long slow pload back up to the car. (Again in reverse on 27/8/03 with Shaky.)NotReallyABagger30/04/1989

Unlogged summit climbed while living / holidaying in Scotland between 1972 and 1987. Climbed Sgairneach Mhor, Beinn Udlamain, A' Mharconaich and Geal Charn from the A9. Can't remember whether in one trip or two.BURGESS31/08/1987

Pinnacle Club meet based at Milehouse. I was there as the guest of a member. We left the car near the summit of Drumochter Pass and went by and up Coire Dhomhain to ascend steep snow (step kicking) to reach the NNW ridge of Sgairneach Mhór. We went on to Beinn Udlamain, A’ Mharconaich, and Geal Charn. Descent to Balsporran Cottages and hence along the road to the car. Some mist but it was mostly clear. Mild with soft snow.pwbellarby25/02/1984
