Parked Tullybaccart Car Park and did South Ballo first. Then descended to main tracks circling North Ballo where we picked up Mountain Bike Tracks heading up to summit. Lots of MBTs in the area so need to be very aware.Crumblie204/01/2024
Many paths to the top.Play2End22/12/2023
From fab parking at Piperdam Loch, along good path N side then signposted route up Blacklaw Hill and Trig. ATV tracks to BH W Top. More good track curling N, NW, S to gate and path through forest to track to minor road. Up Ballo Hill from mast track opp Thrawparts. Short grass W down to wooden fence at hole in wall. Easy to cross under bw. Grass and track SW to South Ballo. NW down to visible wall gap to cross stream to forest track. Anticlockwise loop, all pathed to Northballo Hill. Retraced steps then zigzag down to Lairds Loch. At W end of loch carry on N ish over low fence and up soon obvious track near edge of wood. Cross easy fence to summit Hill of Dores. Retrace return to Loch lovely lunch spot. Out to Tullybaccart CP then S down road to Littleton. Good track E to Redmyre. Here we crossed 2 fences but if we had stayed N of fence maybe better. Past Redmyre Cott and easy gates to Dron Hill. Rtn N of Dron , Balruddery to Piperdam. Superb 22km, 500m ascent.Lynnebe22/11/2023

From Tullybaccart. Head for hill; find mountain bike track; keep going in general direction of summit.daviemore28/05/2020
northballo hill and southballo hill from cp near top of minor road.robertphillips11/03/2019
A mix of forest tracks, MTB trails and fire-breaks link the three hills around Laird Loch. Hill of Dores requires a bit of larch bashing to reach the open top; Northballo Hill is easiest from the less tree'd west side; South Ballo just needs a bit of sheep avoidance.summitter17/02/2019
From the Ballo car park to the SW. Found a mountain bike track passing within 60 metres of the summit, then the usual brash to the high point.NormanW25/08/2017
As RHW except now there are a multitude of rough tracks and the top has been cleared of fallen trees. Back down then onto S B.chrisbien19/02/2017
From Dores Hill. From lower track E of hill, recent forestry felling has cleared a way to the upper road. Then S along this to the fence, from where a path climbs up N, round N side of the E top, to the col between this and the main summit. Easy access - for a while - then pure hell of fallen trees, which not only make the summit impossible to locate, are also potentially very dangerous, especially when wet. Descent S to Southballo Hill.Minto30/12/2015
From the south starting at forest CP. The summit area is covered in fallen trees and has no obvious high point. Approached on a faint path from the north east, scrambled up an uproot and likely got as high as is possible to get.Topographer5712/11/2015
The summit windthrow renders this one a real stinker. The best approach is from the north eastColin Crawford30/07/2015
Mountain bike path takes direct route from track west of hill almost to the summit, then the last hundred metres are an obstacle course with deviation down and round and up the back to the fallen logs on top.alda02/12/2014
From SW, forest car park, forest road then straight up. Windthrow at summit RHW16/02/2012
