Parked at Lyle hill and set off for four hills around Greenock. Earn hill from Long Craig through housing estate before reaching access road to Banks Farm where I was stopped by a local who was keen to know where I was off to. Turned out he had lived there all his life and was keen to advise of the great views from the trig. Followed access road and through gate prior to the farm then followed ATV tracks and tracks to the trig. Headed out via the reservoir and fence line to Pulpit rock then on to Tower Hill | Buck | 14/12/2023 |
As others from Mars road | Andrew Simmons | 09/01/2023 |
From Mars road. | RobertP | 23/06/2022 |
From Branchton station through industrial estate as others. | hillsman | 14/02/2022 |
Pretty much same approach as N Morters. Lovely day in between not so nice showers. | colazione | 04/02/2022 |
From north, parked top of housing estate, path into Industrial estate between 10ft metal fences... passed busy burger van to see high looming gates... rookie error presumed locked. Back to car and quick internet search to confirm they are open...easy once escape from estate resolved. Great views over the Clyde | N.Morters | 04/12/2021 |
Walked up by Flatterton and Mars Roads towards Banks but turning into field at almost welcoming sign. Easy ATV and animal tracks to trig and on to Burneven Hill, possibly best route to Bargane. | lordtonult | 24/11/2021 |
Parked near burger van and opposite bus stop, through metals gates and along track to locked gates, pedestrians sign directs you uphill on reasonable path to trig and HP. Good views from top. Seat by trig facing wrong way for best views. | PeterD | 13/10/2021 |
Very grateful of having checked the logs here beforehand as I would not have thought of checking the high gate otherwise. Burger van guy was just packing away on my return and it was quite amusing that he started up conversation about going to visit the trig pillar. | Alex C | 20/08/2021 |
As LizH. Gates are unlocked. Snack van not open. More great views of the Clyde. | Campbell Singer | 27/05/2021 |
From tree clearing on Berwick Road (NS23654 7561) up very eroded and steep crag on well-defined trail in under 5 mins. 10-15mins over bog and heather to top. Bargane Hill after - wouldn't recommend from this direction. | iangpark | 27/03/2020 |
Couldn't get in from industrial estate so got down to estate below through an alleyway and then someone offered to let me out to the hill through their back garden in Berwick Road. Great views. | sclater | 22/02/2020 |
Stopped besides the butty van - closed on a Saturday! then took the path through the open gate to a water tank - just follow the cider cans. The final fence post can be squeezed around, allowing easy access to the hillside itself. Grand views if you look outwards and not downwards. | summitter | 01/02/2020 |
Up and down in less than 20 minutes from waterworks gate at industrial estate. Boggy underfoot as others have reported. | willyross | 26/01/2020 |
Parked just before the roundabout at the top of the industrial estate. Waterworks gates shut but not locked, so through, along the track and up on paths through the grass, moss and heather to the top. Snack van made for a quick and pleasant lunch. | LizH | 27/11/2019 |
From roundabout at top of industrial estate, unlocked metal gate to water works, NormanW's slither to summit. | Topographer57 | 07/05/2019 |
Good access also from end of Mars Rd. (234750). Take track towards Banks and through gate on RHS. | 49pp | 22/03/2019 |
From the unlocked gate in the industrial estate, then slither round end post at waterworks to save climbing BWF. Enjoyed a bacon butty at the chuck wagon nearby - even open Sunday before Christmas ! | NormanW | 23/12/2018 |
After Tower Hill. Path from North [marked on map] at approx 238766 leads to a path outside industrial estate fence. Down via unlocked gate at Texas / McGills. | russell61 | 06/10/2018 |
5th hill of 8 today on a route from Drumfrochar station to Gourock with my 70 litre rucksack, climbing Scroggy Bank, Dunrod Hill, Idzholm Hill and Bargane Hill descending awkwardly through forest to reach track that reaches minor road at Howford Glen. Veered off on track just past Flatterton to cross 2 fields, over a gate onto track leading to 'Banks' property, I climbed off this track and found a cattle trod leading through the gorse from NS22818 75230 then over to summit plateaux first exploring knoll South of trig, recording 200m @ NS22758 75503 before reaching high point near trig, I recorded this as 203m @ NS22819 75576. Descent NE to reservoir track to find gate locked at industrial estate. I could see no easy way through but retreat was not an option....so tree abutting back end of car park was used. I manged to haul up and drop my large rucksack down, donned gloves then climbed and dropped down into the car park to then emerge onto Earnhill road, past Texas instruments followin | Dazingdale | 30/09/2017 |
Parked near bus depot. Along track towards reservoir, squeeze through gap in fence. Short, steep, boggy heathery slopes, then view opens up. With the F.C. | The Captain | 29/08/2017 |
Access via ginnel at 136 Banff Rd. Turn L after 15m through gate. | jimbloomer | 06/06/2016 |
One of those where other people's comments only make sense when you get there. | Martin R | 18/04/2016 |
my 900th hump from the industrial estate to the top with renee. | robertphillips | 31/01/2015 |
Drumfrochar to Branchton. Fairly good going from Burneven Hill but drop to reservoir was trickier terrain. | Smudge | 29/11/2014 |
Gate still unlocked, follow path to end, squeeze through gap between fences. Low cloud, much mist, mild, limited views. | iangalbraith | 28/11/2014 |
999th.
Go from unlocked gate in fence between Texas Instruments and McGills depot
1hr round trip from Branchton Stn | Thearlaichdubh | 06/04/2013 |
From unlocked gate in industrial estate, 50m up path then cut off onto hillside. Boggy, bit wet. Was at the industrial estate anyway, saw the trig and went for a run - realised where exactly I was when I reached the top! | Kevin29035 | 04/07/2012 |
Gate in Industrial Estate unlocked, so approached from north. | andy | 25/04/2011 |
Parked in west end of Gourock at highest part of housing estate. Dog walker's path steeply up on mud to tussock plateau. Over BWF. 12.30. Clyde and Gourock below. | arranc | 24/02/2011 |
Parked off the road before the bus depot on Earn Hill road. The gates at the roundabout aren't locked. Up the reservoir road - just before the end is a break in the barbed wire fence. Steeply and wet upwards. Fair bit of snow (patches). | chrisbien | 02/04/2010 |
Dreich day but cracking aspect over Firth of Clyde. | SlainteJimmy | 15/03/2008 |
Lower levels well defended by gorse. I think the best route up is from the east where an unmarked path takes you beyond the gorse zone. Beyond the going underfoot is still pretty rough for a 202m summit though! | campagvelocet | 22/10/2007 |
