From Brynhyfyrd after loose angry dogs to the north approach. Easy crossing fields and great views. 7/9 HuMPN.Morters20/02/2023

Followed the fence/wall line on Open Access land from Tan-y-fron to the north. Sheep tracks all the way. A wee cairn summit.summitter27/11/2022
On Chainbridge- Coed Hyrddyn(qv)- Fron Fawr- Llwyn Twr- towpath- Chainbridge walk. We crossed the river and continued to Abbey Farm, then the Clwydian Way, up access land by the fence to 210446 and through the gate there to the HP. There was a memorial bench below where we had lunch. Views of Valle Crucis Abbey most of the way round, great, but what were the planners thinking allowing the caravans tight up to the abbey wall? We then went through the wood to avoid a rough section on the access land that skirts the W side, going through a battered section of the fence onto the last bit of acess land to avoid crossing the 'no access' stile which must be in plain view from the house. A fine walk continued with a visit to Llwyn Twr(qv)pwheeler21/03/2022

Parked to NW, by river. ROWs to Hendre, then uphill close to fence, via 2 sets of water tanks. One bwf at top into summit field. Good views.PGCE07/02/2022
Via public footpath to south, past Bryn Hyfryd. Watch where you tread as there's an anti-social dog owner in the vicinity. At the second metal gate, turn steeply uphill, alongside the fence, then follow a faint path. It's lovely walking all the way; only the abominable chalet park spoils the fun.Wycombe Wanderer25/01/2022
From Llwyn Twr. Up ROW past Bryn Hyfryd then up fence line once in open access. Followed up to trees then picked up track and followed this up to top pastures. Lots of sheep, aimed for gate at 340m corner then followed to 2 further gates alongside the open access and then into summit field. Very straightforward. Small cairn rebuilt. Picked up for to road NW of Rock farm.stig_nest03/04/2021
2/3 a tougher walk than anticipated. From Vale Crucis Abbey, was looking for somewhere to pay for parking but nothing is clear here. Parked by shop. A few walkers around all interested in this spot. Through the chalets, Over the bridge, up the steps, left, through sheepfield and over fence to ascend 60° slope. Hard work. Nice on top, velvet Hill looks nothing from up here.tumpawumpa06/04/2019
From Abbey access, over footbridge then pretty much East and direct up fellside. Showers on top, back down South ridge and to car whilst Jenx and Bryher to Llangollennordicstar28/11/2018
Over footbridge from abbey then directly up. South from top and down to Llangolloen with Bryher.jenx26/11/2018

Small parking area at SJ 20362 43874 - RoW to Abbey, through caravan park, over footbridge & up to Clwydian Way - Crossed sheep pasture to fence at 2073 4440 - Over fence & steep path up through bracken & some gorse to ridge - Along ridge to summit stones. Descended N. & RoW back to car. (S)gerrybowes13/11/2018
Steeply up through open birch woodland then bracken slope to the Access Land boundary at W edge of hill top. N along fence line then short excursion over bwf through sheep pasture and scattered birch to open grassy summit. Low flat cairn at high point. Great views. Descend along fence line N then steeply down to Tan-y-fron.RichardM13/11/2018
From NE starting along soggy RoW then followed hedgelines as far as possible. Some bwfs on the way. When on summit large sheep round-up started with quads and dogs, meant a long diversion for return.Aye Jimmy30/01/2018

#due to road closures I parked at the road junction to the south. A pair of paths to the base of the hill then followed a track up the hillside, a simple walk through gated fields to the summit.JohnStoneham22/03/2014
Followed route suggested by PeteF. A series of gates allow access to the fields beside the CROW access land and mean no fences need be climbed.Sprog12/10/2013

parked at sj208458 and followed fence lice straight up hill. It was a lot easier going up than coming back down !heavyhorses18/02/2012
Very windy day from steep path to W. The path goes up the slight dip but, in December, I just went straight up through the dead bracken.clivevilla28/12/2011
Only a short walk up from the road, but the start is very steep. Simply followed the open access land until close to the top. If you stay to the right then only one fence needs to be crossed. Short walk blue sky will not bother with waterproofs, however hPhilsidwell16/09/2011
Done on a long round with Eglwyseg Mountain. Ascent from the west on a very steep path, and then through sheep pasture to the summit. No scaling of barbed wire fences was needed.Man of Kernow114/08/2011
Came over from Velvet hill. Managed to find the correct path up after fitting in a geocache on the way. Its a pretty steep climb up but well worth the effort.Father Ted25/09/2010
Squeezed car into gateway to north and followed edge of access land to top. Several barbed wire fences to be negotiated.chriswatson15/09/2010
Parked 209 458. Followed the private road and then up through high ferns. Followed fence back - no ferns!destaylor08/07/2010
Ascent from phone box on other side of valley. Across river to Abbey Cottage There is a steep path directly opposite the caravan site which leads to the skyline. Good views of the steam trains.PeteF06/12/2009
