From bend in road. Along field edge and cut through hawthorn hedge to mound topped with bramble, rose and nettle. Thankful not wearing shorts. Along the field edges to much nicer trig.N.Morters21/09/2022
From bend in Road. And visited trig pillar.cjo09/08/2022
Parked on the bend in the road to the NW. We hacked our way through the hedge to ascend the man made mound & then dropped to the 248m SH. Made our way back to the PRoW via gaps in the hedge to the SE of the curious mound. Then on to the trigDanMaisieBex30/04/2022
From Parking near the Playground in Salford visited the Natural Summit area then continued to the Rollright stones returning via Little Rollright.Jephcote8309/10/2021
Bike ride: Moreton-in-Marsh - Seven Wells Hill - Shenberrow Hill - Upper Coscombe Hill - Temple Guiting Hill - Swell Hill - Stow-on-the-Wold Hill - South Hill - Over Norton Hill - Kingham station.Mark Jackson18/09/2021
Easy access to unplanted field through the hedge from footpath. Looks like the field may belong to the quarry site. There’s a large well-established earth mound in the corner of the field that is considerably higher. Solo.Dangerous Dave24/08/2020
Read gerrybowes log after hill visit and can report identical log except went up bank after first visiting summit in middle of unplanted stony field. Returning to layby looked south across corn field and noticed another high point in opposite corner. Turns out to be trig with 1m lower spot height. Drove round to visit but unable to access due to crop in field which hid trig.mntainman22/07/2020

Small layby on bend in road at SP 2785 3059 - SW along RoW for about 280m to a bit of an opening through the thicket into adjacent field - Through thicket, up & along a large artificial earth mound & then across stony wasteland to the unmarked summit. (S)gerrybowes27/05/2020
2nd tump of 3 today. 1st, Steepness hill, an out and back from Ettington, then next bus to Chipping Norton via Oxford then the bus to Long Compton, taking Shakespeàre's way veering off to explore the high ground on the embankment then in the field, also checking out the quarry then scrambling up to traverse the edge back onto the path then via Little Rollright en-route to Over Norton hill...Dazingdale02/06/2019
Parked at bend in the road on this lovely evening and strolled to the high point next to the rape plantsChinnockC26/05/2019
With Jenx and Bryher from parking nearest road bend. Barely contain our excitement, earth mound nearby made it for us. 2+ metres higher!nordicstar02/01/2019
A short walk from the layby on the road.jenx02/01/2019
With K. Visited Rollright Stones afterwards.Ashley14/07/2018
Walked up from Long Compton on the Macmillan Way and then explored both sides of the hedge. However the highest point is a manmade knoll on the north side. This is now well vegetated and some distance from the quarry. Continued on to Little Rollright, Rollright Stones, Great Rollright, Whichford Wood and back to Long Compton.JohnW16/05/2018
Easy stroll up with wife & daughter from small layby on road in icy winds. Indeterminate summit but nice views.wheresthepath11/02/2018
Extensive views for a flat summit!twg2730/01/2018
As others, from the NW. Wandered about both sides of the hedge but not very distinguished top, though the views are surprisingly extensive.milimana16/12/2017
Stopped in bend in road. Some locals seemed to think I was there to fly tip or something until I headed off into the field.KC05/11/2017
In mist and drizzle. Walking Meg before pub lunch with my Dad at the excellent Red Lion, Long Compton. Man made mound definitely higher than flattish surrounding natural ground .Field edge seemed natural HP .Denise 26/10/2017
Field paths and lanes from Long Compton on a dull and misty Autumnal morning. Large levellish area of arable farmland the only distinctive high point being a large elongated man-made vegetated mound on N side of hedge. OS 248m spot height is at GPS SP 28058 30446. Now to the Red Lion where dogs are welcome for a pint and lunch by the log fire.RichardM26/10/2017
From bend in road to NW, track was followed until a way through hedge on left emerged next to high mound with summit field just beyond. Then visited Rollright trig and after that the stones.Aye Jimmy12/09/2017
From the layby to the north down the hedge to the highest part of the fieldMariana Trench28/05/2017
Mound and trig from NW in spitting rain. Apparently the nearby ancient rollright stone circles sometimes attracts esoteric visitors of the New Age culture and contemporary pagans. Very different from the perfectly 'normal' baggers - often arriving here as solitary pilgrims who come to stand fleetingly on top of South Hill without carrying out anything much in the way of rituals or building stone circles or the like. A few do however go on across the stony wastes to connect with the omnipresent OS by touching the much revered trig pillar - a kind of ritual I guess. Perhaps we are members of the New TumP and Trig Age.Chris Pearson17/02/2017
Parked. On bend, squeezed through hedge, wandered around a bit. Went up mound as well. Then onto the stones.PeterD14/05/2016
A new Hump for Pete as well as myself. We made a walk of it, parking at, and visiting Rollright Stones then walking via Little Rollright to South Hill- there are some very useful permissive paths on this walk. There was large earth mound above the summit for those who feel they must go up such things to bag the summit. Back via the Macmillan Way. A good walk.pwheeler23/01/2016
Fifteen and a half years after bagging the Rollright trig pillar and knowing nothing of higher ground a few hundred metres north, I've finally visited South Hill. From the field edge by road to the NW walk SE along wrong side of high dense hedge. Fortunately just as one is opposite the spot height in the field to the NE there is an easy way through.vegibagger02/09/2015
1/2 Quick stroll up from bend in road...man made top is higher than natural top !Fergalh05/05/2015
Parked in Little Compton. The summit could be anywhere but wondered around both sides of the hedge to cover all eventualities.Sprog03/08/2014
Quick bag from the road.simon and co03/06/2014
Previous entries said it all. Got nettled scrambling through hedge to get to north side, just in case it's higher. I'm not sure what the purists would say but I ignore man made artefacts and regard the summit as the highest natural point - otherwise I'd have to stand on top of every trig point and cause endless damage to some beautiful cairns.ijpowell01/06/2014

Walked from Salford, not much to see at the top, visited the Rollright stones on the way back.rhalstead09/12/2012
Easy parking at road bend to NW. Easy access to a very flat top. Difficult to tell exactly where top is so wandered around all possible options. Also went up the mound, but that is clearly man made. Hill may disappear if quarry is expanded!Hillsidenick27/11/2012
Short stroll from road to NW.tim74727/09/2012

GR for the summit is given as south of the path (ie in Warwickshire), however, a 248m spot height is marked on the 1:25k OS map to the north of the path (ie in Oxfordshire). Went to both points anyway to be sure.jonglew11/08/2012
Chipping Norton to Long Compton. Watched owls patrolling NW coombe in daylight while England secured victory against the French (rugby).Smudge11/03/2012
8am start from Stow On The Wold youth hostel in the fog. Parked at farm to SE then stroll along to summit as frost poured off the trees.Dugswell206/03/2012

Bagged the top after a nice trip to the Rollright stones. Good views on a winter's day.DanHolme28/12/2011
Parked at bend in road beside track. Top is N of the line of trees/bushes. Walked about the field and the top of the mound (slippy). 10:13chrisbien05/12/2011
Agree - the heap does spoil thingsMartin R20/08/2011
En passant - from SP 278 305. Ventured each side of the hedge and to the summit of the spoil heap.summitsup14/01/2011
Parked on road to NW. Initially made a mistake and tried to go through wood but field eedge is correct way up gentle slope. High point is on man made mound on other side of hedge.Father Ted31/12/2010
Easy parking to the NW. Stroll along bridleway.destaylor19/09/2010

Parked on verge to the NW. Highest point is currently a spoil heap from the nearby limestone quarry. Apart from that the highest point could be almost anywhere.Herbert Anchovy06/08/2010
Difficult to say where the top is if, as Streetmap says, it is not at the trig point.clivevilla16/02/2008
