Creag Mhor & Beinn Stacach circuit from Ballimore.
1 of 7 | thekirkie pirate | 08/03/2023 |
Solo. Round of Creag Mhor and Beinn Stacach on a spectacular wintery bright calm day. | alexmaclennan | 11/12/2022 |
From Beinn Stacach. Straightforward and grassy, keeping to the right of the fence line, the only slight difficulty being before the col where I veered a little south of the fence towards steep ground. From Creag Mhor, descended the mostly grassy gully east of the summit, then aimed south rather than south east to the track to avoid cows, followed the track past the deer fence with the high ladder stile, then veered off south of the track to avoid a herd of cows, and so back to Ballimore. | Owen B | 23/09/2022 |
Circular walk from Ballimore via Clach Mhor; back via gully SE of summit. | Winterfloodian | 22/08/2022 |
Gill's route to Creag Mhor, then circuit of Creag an Fhiog and the three Ceann na Baintighearna tops. No time to include Beinn Stacach so descended east to Fathan Glinne, keeping north of the burn to the end of the track at the small dam and back to the bungalow at Ballimore via the track. | TRG318 | 20/04/2022 |
One is enough on a very wet and very windy day. From Ballimore car park, up the track past the bungalow, over the 5 bar gate, grassy coo tracks up to the forestry fence, squeeze through the wires, then wander up to the top. Mainly easy going and a very pleasant walk if you ignore the hostile weather. | Gill | 27/10/2021 |
From Ballimore, taking route along S side of river (track not too bad), then crossed river near NN512170 to avoid cattle at the river confluence, followed track to barn, crossed back on footbridge, headed up ridge and followed it to summit of Beinn Stacach, continuing N then swinging NE along ridge (following fence line) over Ceann na Baintighearna East Top to Bealach Driseach (fence gives a good line of descent), then up Creag an Fhiog to Creag Mhor, descending SE to obvious track, climbed 2m wooden fence by gate at NN523175, followed track most of the way to Ballimore, before cutting off across rough pasture down to a rusty 2m gate, climbed that, back to Ballimore [several herds of cattle in area, including bulls and calves] | kdbennett | 07/06/2021 |

Ancrum MC meet. From 534192 via forest track and fire break. Deer fence easily crossed at 522190, then up steep grassy hillside. Return via Ballimore. | Fife Walking | 30/08/2020 |
From track junction 500 yards N of Ballimore. Along track, R into field before gate in deer fence, easily through fence near top of wood. More or less directly to the summit ridge at a col near its east end, over pt 647 to the summit, W to Creag an Fhiog, then a descending traverse back to the start. | Nick Down1 | 18/04/2020 |
Solo trip | Invicta14 | 15/05/2019 |
Plenty of parking 500m north of Ballimore, from which a track leads SW. Before reaching a deer gate a normal gate can be scaled, enabling a pretty straightforward climb to the Creag Mhor ridge. There a couple of false tops before the actual summit s reached, then onwards to Creag an Fhiog. Superb views up and down Loch Voil make up for the boggy Bealach Driseach, from where the ascent to Ceann na Baintighearna takes you to drier ground. Turning south to Beinn Stachach (or whatever you choose to call it) takes you alongside a couple of derelict fences (why don't landowners remove these once defunct?) to a small stone cairn (which I rebuilt) just to the east of the trig. Its all down hill from here, taking in the East top before reaching the bridge over the Allt Fathan Glinne, and an ever expanding track back to the start. Met Pete R back at the car - always nice to say hello to a fellow bagger! | summitter | 30/03/2019 |
Beinn Stacach and Creag Mhor horseshoe from Ballimore. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 25/02/2019 |
Beinn Stacach and Creag Mhor plus a couple of sub-Tumps(Ceann na Baintighearna East Top,Creag an Fhiog)from parking at bridge E end Loch Voil. Walk along S of loch then good path to bealach Driseach and access to the hills. Good route, this avoids any significant boggy terrain. | RobertP | 27/08/2017 |
Parked at Ballimore which is now a construction site, back down road to track, up the hill, through gate over several false summits, back same way 2 hours 36 total. | rogreeves | 13/04/2017 |
Route as PWB. Overcast, mist lifted by lunch, great views, snow, cold wind, rained 10 mins from car. | iangalbraith | 07/03/2017 |
From near Balquhidder to avoid the stalkers still apparently active on a misty late afternoon in January. | amswanston | 06/01/2017 |
Solo. On road up Glen Buckie. Used gate to right of gate with notice 'Private Deer Park'. Up hillside, squeezed through fence, and over a minor top to NE to reach summit of Creag Mhòr. Highest point is on bare rock. Continued to Creag an Fhiog. Summit area grassy with no cairns. NW of two points about 15m apart looks like highest point. | pwbellarby | 09/07/2015 |
From Beinn Stacath. Slow going down to the bealach, then up the knobbly west ridge. Back to the track down the south slope and then back to Ballimore to complete a round trip. | Windy Corner | 25/05/2015 |

Had to walk in from Balquhiddor as road impassable due to snow. Visibility reasonable though and a nice short day except for fierce wind for last 100m (distance) or so Could hardly stand but made it. Deepish, soft snoew made for hard going | dickscroop | 18/01/2015 |

A confusing early morning start for me, what with the clocks going back an hour, started with a surprisingly lovely morning drive up near Killin. I was joined this time by Brian, Stevie, Wyllie Senior and the two dogs, Jasper and Bruce. A early brush with some seriously worrying large cows provided a great deal of amusement, particularly with Jim 'Captain Caveman' Wyllie waving his stick and doing more to frighten Bruce than the nonplussed cattle. I make no apologies for the blurred photos of the cows as I was walking as quickly as possible at the time in case they remembered just how many times I'd been to Burger King in the past. The weather stayed fairly mild on the way up, but as we neared the top the cloud closed in rapidly and by the time I got there (10 minutes after everyone else), it was looking grim. We decided at this point that it was only going to get worse and the planned very lengthy day didn't materialise. However it had taken us 3 hours to get to the top so I was highl | alanwyllie | 28/10/2001 |

Parked in shade at Ballimore. Up track to gate in deer fence and up on grass. To a rusty deer fence by forest edge, new plantings since my 1976 map. Up to many visual horizons with three large drops over small peat areas to top at 16.00. 3 stones on sloping side of boulder sticking above the surrounding rough grass.
