Pleasant walk from NT car park. Interesting area, good viewpoint.LizH16/08/2023
Easy amble from car park. Great views. Done as part of a loop with Joe and Tom.fnem09/07/2023
Parked at NT car park for Devil's Punch Bowl. Misty and wet to start but weather brightened (although still rained) as I got closer to The Devil's Jumps East Top. Lovely summit and good views despite the low cloud. Back to the NT cafe for soup before ascents of Gibbett Hill and Rutton Hill.Buck20/03/2023
From NT car park in Hindhead.Minto16/01/2023
Parked in Tyndalls; a few residents looked at me in a strange way but I just gave them my cheery greet and passed the time of day. As I left I realised that Tyndalls is resident parking only! If you want to avoid the charges on the NT car park there is a small medium car park on Heather Way (SU 88839 35651)DC11main02/01/2023
from Rutton Hill, in a circuit from Thursley, including Devil's Jump E Top. Nice artistic oak bench on summit by Walter Bailey, called Xylem. Super views.IanHHill01/10/2022
Parked in NT car park to the W and ascended on the Byway Open to All Traffic.JK27/03/2022
Parked at Hindhead NT, busy walk around interesting route until got lost after Temple of Four Winds! Worked around much quieter S face and then back up to finish on Gibbet. Great views to London.cjwilliams29/01/2022
From the house - starting to work out the confusing tree hidden topography with its many, many paths - linking hither and thither catering for dog walkers and horse riders and families and all. Went over the nice P26 ridge summit of Invar today -which I discovered with magnifying glass eyesight - before joining the main churned up E ridge of Gibbet Hill at the remaining base of the Temple of the 4 winds - a former luncheon spot by the rich Witley estate owner. Having lower expectations we happily sat on a damp bench eating our sandwiches from a re-purposed bread bag.Chris Pearson03/01/2022
New Year's Day. Started the day with new cold symptoms but a(thankfully negative) Covid LFT. 3 hrs walk with L up lovely quiet lanes through Grayswood(robins singing) and steep woods. A very mild day 14 degrees due to a flow of warm subtropical air from the Azores. Also a brief spell of warm sunshine. Warmest New Year's Day on record in London, with a temperature of 16.2C. Unfortunately despite the sand bedrock all paths boot deep in churned up wet leaf mulch mud -making for slow sticky & slippery progress. Lots of people out for their NYD walk around Devils Punchbowl.Chris Pearson01/01/2022
Same 6 mile run up and back as yesterday -getting easier! With L.Chris Pearson20/12/2021
1hr 30min run with L up and down from the house following the Greensand Way through lovely misty woods with golden leaves underfoot and weak sunshine half breaking through. A great 6 mile run but exhausting for me as unfit at the moment.Chris Pearson19/12/2021
A new cat sit house for 4 days for us in Haslemere. 2 hr walk from the door following the Greensand Way up through beautiful woodland and sunken byways. Gloomy and grey. Hill gets its gruesome name from the bodies of the 3 highwayman who in 1700s were hanged for murder and their bodies were left as a deterrent for 3 years in cages from the gibbet.Chris Pearson18/12/2021
Straight forward stroll from the NT CP.Newton Maximus02/12/2021
Long loop from Chiddingfold via Black Down.twg2704/10/2021
A walk around the Devil's punch bowl. A bit hazy at the top but the London skyline was clearly visiblesconnolly0118/08/2021
Large & very popular NT car park to W. at SU 8902 3573 - Followed the waymarked 'Sailors Stroll' to the small mound summit & trig point. Fascinating story behind the naming of this stroll. (S)gerrybowes16/04/2021
Found main NT Hindhead carpark to be congested with no space free. Headed north west along A287 to small NT car park serving Golden Valley. Spaces and no charge here. Took nearby BW out to join path around rim of Devil's Punch Bowl. On past the NT centre, and on to find the trig point and fine view from Gibbet Hill. True high point seems to be a little to NW of trig. Plenty of history to enjoy. Don't miss the grizzly tale on the Sailor's Stone. All in nice bag with Tiarnan and Geraldine.Pete West21/02/2021
My summit of the day on a wet walk out of Brook. I didn't hang about in the driving rain.PhilipChaston23/12/2020
Paid £1.50 to park for an hour at the Hindhead Common & Devils Punchbowl NT car park. Realised I had been here before the A3 tunnel had been built and was seduced in to following it's route (now minus tarmac) until I realised it was passing the summit above me to the south. Found a gap in trees which took me up to Greensand Way off which after 150 meters leave to the left to gain summit area consisting of a trig pillar, a celtic cross marking the point where the Gibbett is said to have stood, used to hang the 3 murderers who killed the sailor commemorated on the nearby memorial. Summit being a small mound with post to the west.mntainman23/09/2020
Revisited with Jon, Alex and Paul on the first post-lockdown walk. Pleasant walk in sunshine from Haslemere station.Richard18/07/2020
Bagged on way from Witley to Haslemere. Lovely views to the North and over across devil's punchbowl.lerritt11/03/2020

From the car park after a big walk earlier in the day.atreides788712/05/2019
On way to coast. Parked for free on what was the old A3 just up from turn for Haslemere which I took when I left. First frost of the season with a biting north wind encouraged a brisk 30 minute round trip to top.KC27/10/2018
As a lunchtime visit, I parked in the Devil's Punchbowl Pub carpark and walked up to the summit in glorious sunshine. Also bagged Hindhead Trigpoint.JohRvs13/09/2018
Gibbet Hill and Black Down, round from Haslemere.deknyff27/08/2018
Jenx and pup, interesting spot with old A3 and turnpike. Great views all round, parked at the visitor centre/attraction to Westnordicstar13/05/2018
Lovely walk from NT carpark (N51° 06.823' W0° 43.769'), £4, must have been here when I lived in Hampshire but couldn’t recall coming via this route or remember the trigpoint. Bagged some geocaches and benchmarks enroute. Missed the rivet on the celtic cross, although I took a picture of the cross!thejackrustles21/04/2018
Final day of our Haslemere week with Bobby the spaniel. Our usual enjoyable hour's dog walk from car park to the south. Back again in the afternoon as dry today for another hour's circuit.Chris Pearson01/04/2018
Dry but permagloom on today's circuit. Easy to lose our small black dog in the gloom and deep vegetation - can see why some dogs sport luminous orange coats. Luckily Bobby responds to 3 toots of the whistle and a treat. Quite rare to meet anyone' on here without a dog. - easy to get chatting to strangers whilst the dogs play.Chris Pearson31/03/2018
Weather Forecast. 9am rain expected 93%, at 10 am high chance of rain 83%. 1 hr circuit with L dog at 0930 . Amazingly no rain. Families with children on bikes and many loose dogs at summit for Bobby the spaniel to play madly with. Rain for rest of day.Chris Pearson30/03/2018
Alhambra Rot (?) warning in the media for dog walkers to try to avoid areas of mud and woodland ! This was hard to avoid after amorning of heavy rain on our usual hour circuit with Bobby the spaniel who likes nothing more than to wallow in the deepest mud possible. Rain came back before we were. Lots of towels used post walk on dog and us.Chris Pearson28/03/2018
2 hr dog walk with L in light rain. Down into the Devil' Punchbowl today.Chris Pearson27/03/2018
Lovely sunny spring morning for hour's dog walk with L and Bobby the spaniel.Chris Pearson26/03/2018
First Sunday of spring and the clocks have moved. Packed with humans and dogs to which happy circus we added Bobby the spaniel to charge around in circles playing with other dogs and children. Returned later that afternoon when the sun came out for a similar hour's walk again over the summit.Chris Pearson25/03/2018
With K. Short flat walk from Devil's Punchbowl pay and display car park. Lots of posh Surrey types walking dogs.Ashley13/03/2018
Easy walk along old A3 from NT car park, then on to Rutton Hill.Tony J04/02/2018
A good 4 hr walk from Marley Common and back with L exploring Hiimdhead Common which was the NT first purchase / success in 1905 to prevent the spread of enclosures and maintain it as common land. Bought at auction for £3625. I recall in 2005 driving along the old A3 around the top of The Devil's Puncbowl here before the very expensive double tunnel was built below just over 1 mile long, (opened in 2011 ) costing £371 million or £155,000 per metre, as there was no environmentally acceptable alternative to link London and Portsmouth. Good views today which we shared along with our sandwich crumbs with a robin.Chris Pearson02/02/2018
Climbed from the NT car park, unfortunately we had no views as it was foggy & wet. We also bagged the benchmarks along the way and enjoyed reading the NT panels.DanMaisieBex27/01/2018
Short walk with the hoards from the NT car park with A. Good views on a sunny but cold day.PeterD12/11/2017
Just 6 miles in to the 50 mile Surrey Tops LDWA event. Jogging along with Lesley . We dutifully visited the trig as on route description. Then around the Devil's Punchbowl and run down north to Kettlebury Hill and its extrodinary heathland ridge / bowl . Emptiness in the SE .Chris Pearson23/09/2017

From north east via easy paths which seem to be well used by bikers, luckily not while I am visiting. Then onto the Haslemeretrimarc217/02/2017
Second hill of the day via footpaths from Haslemere village centre. Snow falling, navigation easy and under-foot quite easy-going; limited views due to weather. Returned via Greensand Way for a welcome hot chocolate at the station.JOHNS11/02/2017
