DDFR Top not worth it alone but a pleasant stroll across muddy fields!Donpeblo12/02/2024

Parked by village green, and followed footpaths around fields to the wood. A very uninspiring place.Minto29/06/2023
About 2 miles from Cambridgeshire's Great Chishill down some quiet country lanes and footpaths. Really not much to see here but very serene on a Tuesday afternoon.hillbagger9106/06/2023
Parked in the small church car park before following field boundaries to meet the Harcamlow Way to the N - the footpath on the map goes directly across a ploughed field. Then followed the HW N/NW to hp. Cold wind with a brief snow flurry. Would be worth a revisit for a longer walk in the area when drier under foot. With Gillianrichard6916/01/2023

From Great Chishill. Approached summit along Harcamlow Way. KeithByTheC24/02/2022
On a circular run from Great Chrishill. Total 5 miles. Blowing a gale, pouring with rain and no-one about. Idealphil7020/02/2022
Did the County top of Essex on the same day as Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. A 7 mile walk with Cambridgeshire's county top. This county top was a lot easier to specify the summit and it was very wide for how flat it was, but the best of the 3 in my opinion.DavidHiner01/02/2022
Parked up drive starting 100m SW of 134. Easy flat going to alledged high pointGordonAdshead07/11/2021

SOLO. Overnighted in Sheringham and set off on a quest to bag some of the hills in Jonny Muir's book. This was number 4. Walked from Great Chishill on the road to the byway signposted for Building End. Followed the path next to th house called The Well and past the 'Danger of Death' sign and along the path into the woods which contained a fridge door; one side also has 'Danger of Death' sprayed on it! Followed the route in Jonny Muir's book and returned on wider circle to the south to avoid the intriguing 'DANGER OF DEATH' signs. Next stop Boring Field.Buck08/08/2020

Pleasant walk from the church. not 100% clear where the exact high point is but the corner of the field (north side of little wooded area) looks about right .keithelliott22/04/2017
Walked from Church, but field recently ploughed so no Trodden path across it. Walked round edge to join path from East and then through trees to HP. Retuned along path to village green which would have been much easier.PeterD16/11/2016

Bike from Audley End Station and then walk from Langley Church. Very enjoyable. Several fallow deer plus red kites and buzzardtrimarc221/01/2016
With cambridgeshire same walknickywood111/12/2015
By now the sun was shining and sky fully blue. A lovely walk around the edge of the wood and then around the newly ploughed and planted field. Lots of deer and SMILE you are on candid camera - signs warn that the area is under covert surveillance. Walked back through the woods - lots of evidence of hunting preparations but no pheasants at all - so I guess it is just deer here.M3WDD22/11/2015

Parked opposite the top for cambridgeshire as I did the Essex and the cambridgeshire county tops together using a 5 mile walk from Jonny Muir's book the UK's county tops, not a bad walk really and deer was seen on my return.WAYNE ROWLETT19/07/2015
Parked by the church in Great Chishill and after bagging Cambridge high walked through the fields to Essex high. Pleasant, well marked paths.Dragonhert27/06/2015

Parked on verge to the WSW and had a lovely stroll along footpaths in the winter sunshine. Eight of the fallow deer including a buck with spectacular antlers were loafing about on the highest point in the corner of the wood. Saw another 30+ deer on the walk back.Herbert Anchovy27/01/2015
Visited this highpoint while in the area for work.magirob07/01/2015

Ben and Marie. Walked 3hrs round Cambs and Essex tops. Chrishall Common another curve in the landscape, no great views. Ate at King William IV in Heydon, eccentric pub, decent veggy food and meat as well(we went for cheeses). Crammed with ornaments and an ancient hostess in 80's style make-up!mcf09/03/2013
Did on a 6.5 mile run, covering this and the Cambs county topmadaddo06/02/2013
I am working my way through the Historic County Tops with my 2 Dalmatians - Celsie our 6 year old girl and Sandy our 4 year old boy - we have written a full log, with pictures, of this walk (and the others) which you can read at "http://blog.schunikka.co.uk"Schunikka05/01/2013

A short walk from the small village (hamlet) of Langley. No views and very unimpressive, but what can you expect from a flat county?jonglew10/11/2012
Parked in lane leading to houses and church at Langley. Lovely church tucked away and nice walk through churchyard and filed boundry paths to wood. High point just through woods although seems to be higher ground at various points around.Argentum6622/08/2012
Nigel Thorogood 'Bagged' for the 2012 Morris Lubricants County Top Challenge for the TCT.morrislube17/08/2012
Came in from Langley Green, parked by cricket pavillion. Indistinct at first, follow track past houses and then becomes more obvious. V muddy initially, but then became reasonable path/track around mature rapeseed field and mowed path. Highpoint not obvious as stated by othersnordicstar25/07/2012
9 mile circular walk across fields bagging the two county tops. Slightly better than Cambridgeshire's county top.DanTrig17/06/2012
Walked the route in 'The UK's County Tops' book by Jonny Muir. Not exactly obvious that we were at the highest point at first but think we got there!Clare3906/05/2012

Top no.2 bagged during a circular walk from Great Chrishall (see Top no.1) to Chrishall Common to Little Chrishall and back. A fine cold morning with thick frost on the ground. Distance 6.6 miles; climb 418 feet; time 2.2 hoursalan.65to7017/01/2012
Not a bad walk at all although rather flat. I agree the top could be anywhere. I drove around a bit trying to find footpath starts. Best bet seems to be to park by the church. the path is then very clear and in a straight line.simon and co09/01/2012
Circular walk from Great Chishill with Cambs. county top.Fred Windsor09/12/2011
Lovely wood. Parked by the church and through the churchyard to the path. Take careful compass readings or you will go wrong (as I did at first); the right path to the wood is behind the church.AlexanderHoward26/11/2011
Unlike its neighbour Gt Chishill this one takes a bit of a walk - I left my bike at the road corner 1km to the west and walked from there. There is car parking space. Nice enough farmland.Mark Jackson19/09/2010
Walked from Chrishall, nice churchwillpalmer20/08/2010

Just made sure the southern peaks are as challenging as those in north decided to bike from Ipswich. 136 miles and 46 hours later, including one night wild camping in a field near Hadleigh, visited this county top and Cambs county top on same day.(Twin pemntainman28/05/2009

Walked in from Church, but gave dogs some exercise by doing indirect FP's on way in. Countryside very reminiscent of the Somme battlefield area. Even has a "High Wood". Agree with others on Top locationmartin & storm14/02/2008

We reached this top via the Harcamlow Way, starting from Audley End rail station. Wouldn't recommend it as way is poorly signposted and quite muddy after rain. Best views are from the Icknield Way near Elmdon village to the north. The Gardener27/09/2007
Out on a peak bagging day, parked at the village hall and walked across the fields. Saw the deer through the trees.rhalstead26/08/2007

Corner of the field probably has the highest tussock of grass. No deer when I was there.signyred01/05/2006
Located in woodland occupied by deer. Keep your eyes open especially in evening and you might see them. I saw about 20 including an all-white deer.Nick15/03/2006
Flattish - could be anywhere - like others, we decided on corner of field by Oldfield Grove. Could be easily linked to Cambridgeshire top. Nearby church of St John the Evangelist in Langley Upper Green is quite nice.wheresthepath12/11/2005
