Top not worth it alone but a pleasant stroll across muddy fields! | Donpeblo | 12/02/2024 |
Adjacent to field corner near spot height | Vulcan | 20/08/2023 |
Parked by village green, and followed footpaths around fields to the wood. A very uninspiring place. | Minto | 29/06/2023 |
About 2 miles from Cambridgeshire's Great Chishill down some quiet country lanes and footpaths. Really not much to see here but very serene on a Tuesday afternoon. | hillbagger91 | 06/06/2023 |
Parked in the small church car park before following field boundaries to meet the Harcamlow Way to the N - the footpath on the map goes directly across a ploughed field. Then followed the HW N/NW to hp. Cold wind with a brief snow flurry. Would be worth a revisit for a longer walk in the area when drier under foot. With Gillian | richard69 | 16/01/2023 |
Chrishall Common from GR: TL 44357 35210 | ronaldo333 | 04/05/2022 |
From Great Chishill. Approached summit along Harcamlow Way. | KeithByTheC | 24/02/2022 |
On a circular run from Great Chrishill. Total 5 miles. Blowing a gale, pouring with rain and no-one about. Ideal | phil70 | 20/02/2022 |
Did the County top of Essex on the same day as Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. A 7 mile walk with Cambridgeshire's county top. This county top was a lot easier to specify the summit and it was very wide for how flat it was, but the best of the 3 in my opinion. | DavidHiner | 01/02/2022 |
Parked up drive starting 100m SW of 134. Easy flat going to alledged high point | GordonAdshead | 07/11/2021 |
On a trail run from Great Chishill via Chiswick Farm and Harcamlow Way. | Wheelsy | 01/08/2021 |
Walked from Cambs CT across lovely fields. Found the top at the edge of the woods. | cjwilliams | 24/07/2021 |
Second summit of the day, approached along the HarCam Way. Barked at by dogs and shouted at by a horrid woman! | pclyndes | 12/06/2021 |

Circular walk taking in Cambs & Essex high points | jedthehumanoid | 26/09/2020 |
SOLO. Overnighted in Sheringham and set off on a quest to bag some of the hills in Jonny Muir's book. This was number 4. Walked from Great Chishill on the road to the byway signposted for Building End. Followed the path next to th house called The Well and past the 'Danger of Death' sign and along the path into the woods which contained a fridge door; one side also has 'Danger of Death' sprayed on it! Followed the route in Jonny Muir's book and returned on wider circle to the south to avoid the intriguing 'DANGER OF DEATH' signs. Next stop Boring Field. | Buck | 08/08/2020 |
Circular loop from Chrishall to the two county tops and Langley. | welshyboyo | 28/06/2020 |

With E. A lovely sunny afternoon. Parked on minor road near Church Farm just off Bull Lane. Walked into village and followed Harcamlow Way around fields of ripening wheat to county hp which is in the corner of field just after going through small wood. Very quiet. Nice walk. | Beeliner | 26/07/2019 |

Walked from church, there is a nice path cut through the corn along the footpath | DC11main | 17/06/2018 |
Parked on a layby at the corner of the road then passed a trig now a garden ornament, then through the wood to corner of a field that's the summit.. return via the edges of fields very muddy | jmistry86 | 28/01/2018 |

Part of bike ride | garth87 | 11/06/2017 |
Pleasant walk from the church. not 100% clear where the exact high point is but the corner of the field (north side of little wooded area) looks about right . | keithelliott | 22/04/2017 |
Walked from Church, but field recently ploughed so no Trodden path across it. Walked round edge to join path from East and then through trees to HP. Retuned along path to village green which would have been much easier. | PeterD | 16/11/2016 |
5.3 mile (with Cambridgeshire)with Katy .. Long Top Bagging Day | George Thompson | 01/11/2016 |
Parked at Langley Church and then walked north across the recently ploughed field with Helen & Molly to follow Harcamlow Way to the HP in the corner of another field after a small copse of trees. Saw 3 Fallow Deer. | JohRvs | 29/10/2016 |

Circular to Essex/Cambs high points with vinny, max and Katie. No top to speak of but ticked. | Mash2016 | 23/01/2016 |
Bike from Audley End Station and then walk from Langley Church. Very enjoyable. Several fallow deer plus red kites and buzzard | trimarc2 | 21/01/2016 |
With cambridgeshire same walk | nickywood1 | 11/12/2015 |
By now the sun was shining and sky fully blue. A lovely walk around the edge of the wood and then around the newly ploughed and planted field. Lots of deer and SMILE you are on candid camera - signs warn that the area is under covert surveillance. Walked back through the woods - lots of evidence of hunting preparations but no pheasants at all - so I guess it is just deer here. | M3WDD | 22/11/2015 |
TD, C & H | This Dog | 26/10/2015 |
Parked opposite the top for cambridgeshire as I did the Essex and the cambridgeshire county tops together using a 5 mile walk from Jonny Muir's book the UK's county tops, not a bad walk really and deer was seen on my return. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/07/2015 |
Parked by the church in Great Chishill and after bagging Cambridge high walked through the fields to Essex high. Pleasant, well marked paths. | Dragonhert | 27/06/2015 |
best part was the narrow channel in the rape. | maltose | 23/06/2015 |
Climbed with Karen | aussie1961 | 23/05/2015 |
Parked on verge to the WSW and had a lovely stroll along footpaths in the winter sunshine. Eight of the fallow deer including a buck with spectacular antlers were loafing about on the highest point in the corner of the wood. Saw another 30+ deer on the walk back. | Herbert Anchovy | 27/01/2015 |
Visited this highpoint while in the area for work. | magirob | 07/01/2015 |

Close to were the path enters the woods. | bolton | 04/04/2013 |
Parked by the church in Langley - Picked up the Harcamlow Way to the Top (10m from field corner where the path emerges from the wood). Saw at least 10 deer moving through the woods. (PM) | gerrybowes | 04/04/2013 |
Ben and Marie. Walked 3hrs round Cambs and Essex tops. Chrishall Common another curve in the landscape, no great views. Ate at King William IV in Heydon, eccentric pub, decent veggy food and meat as well(we went for cheeses). Crammed with ornaments and an ancient hostess in 80's style make-up! | mcf | 09/03/2013 |
Did on a 6.5 mile run, covering this and the Cambs county top | madaddo | 06/02/2013 |
I am working my way through the Historic County Tops with my 2 Dalmatians - Celsie our 6 year old girl and Sandy our 4 year old boy - we have written a full log, with pictures, of this walk (and the others) which you can read at "http://blog.schunikka.co.uk" | Schunikka | 05/01/2013 |
found it! | mcallmar | 29/12/2012 |
A short walk from the small village (hamlet) of Langley. No views and very unimpressive, but what can you expect from a flat county? | jonglew | 10/11/2012 |
Parked in lane leading to houses and church at Langley. Lovely church tucked away and nice walk through churchyard and filed boundry paths to wood. High point just through woods although seems to be higher ground at various points around. | Argentum66 | 22/08/2012 |
Nigel Thorogood 'Bagged' for the 2012 Morris Lubricants County Top Challenge for the TCT. | morrislube | 17/08/2012 |
Came in from Langley Green, parked by cricket pavillion. Indistinct at first, follow track past houses and then becomes more obvious. V muddy initially, but then became reasonable path/track around mature rapeseed field and mowed path. Highpoint not obvious as stated by others | nordicstar | 25/07/2012 |
9 mile circular walk across fields bagging the two county tops. Slightly better than Cambridgeshire's county top. | DanTrig | 17/06/2012 |
Walked the route in 'The UK's County Tops' book by Jonny Muir. Not exactly obvious that we were at the highest point at first but think we got there! | Clare39 | 06/05/2012 |
Enjoyed the walk between here and Chishall (Canbridgeshire). | Paul47 | 06/05/2012 |
KJF from Langley Church | crazy | 03/04/2012 |
Top no.2 bagged during a circular walk from Great Chrishall (see Top no.1) to Chrishall Common to Little Chrishall and back. A fine cold morning with thick frost on the ground. Distance 6.6 miles; climb 418 feet; time 2.2 hours | alan.65to70 | 17/01/2012 |
Not a bad walk at all although rather flat. I agree the top could be anywhere. I drove around a bit trying to find footpath starts. Best bet seems to be to park by the church. the path is then very clear and in a straight line. | simon and co | 09/01/2012 |
Circular walk from Great Chishill with Cambs. county top. | Fred Windsor | 09/12/2011 |
Lovely wood. Parked by the church and through the churchyard to the path. Take careful compass readings or you will go wrong (as I did at first); the right path to the wood is behind the church. | AlexanderHoward | 26/11/2011 |
Unlike its neighbour Gt Chishill this one takes a bit of a walk - I left my bike at the road corner 1km to the west and walked from there. There is car parking space. Nice enough farmland. | Mark Jackson | 19/09/2010 |
Walked from Chrishall, nice church | willpalmer | 20/08/2010 |
One of those tops where the surroundings always look a bit higher. | Richard | 17/07/2010 |
Pleasant walk from Langley | BazWylie | 06/06/2010 |
walked solo with great chishall - lovely quiet walk | mr bounce | 04/07/2009 |
Just made sure the southern peaks are as challenging as those in north decided to bike from Ipswich. 136 miles and 46 hours later, including one night wild camping in a field near Hadleigh, visited this county top and Cambs county top on same day.(Twin pe | mntainman | 28/05/2009 |

From the S to the W of the Hall and church. Pleasant walk through signposted paths. | destaylor | 16/06/2008 |
walked from the nearby church, footpath signed but
no sign on the ground, very wet. | asbown | 27/03/2008 |
Walked in from Church, but gave dogs some exercise by doing indirect FP's on way in. Countryside very reminiscent of the Somme battlefield area. Even has a "High Wood". Agree with others on Top location | martin & storm | 14/02/2008 |
small | simon123 | 26/10/2007 |
We reached this top via the Harcamlow Way, starting from Audley End rail station. Wouldn't recommend it as way is poorly signposted and quite muddy after rain. Best views are from the Icknield Way near Elmdon village to the north. | The Gardener | 27/09/2007 |
Out on a peak bagging day, parked at the village hall and walked across the fields. Saw the deer through the trees. | rhalstead | 26/08/2007 |
Nice walk. Clarty field. No deer. | electricratman | 19/11/2006 |

Pleasant walk across fields and through wood.Highest area seemed to be near the corner of field by where track exits wood. | chris creedy | 05/09/2006 |
Corner of the field probably has the highest tussock of grass. No deer when I was there. | signyred | 01/05/2006 |
Located in woodland occupied by deer. Keep your eyes open especially in evening and you might see them. I saw about 20 including an all-white deer. | Nick | 15/03/2006 |
Flattish - could be anywhere - like others, we decided on corner of field by Oldfield Grove. Could be easily linked to Cambridgeshire top. Nearby church of St John the Evangelist in Langley Upper Green is quite nice. | wheresthepath | 12/11/2005 |
Spot ht at corner of field, where path emerges from woods | webmaster | 12/09/2003 |
