on route to Walbury Hill | gbeniston | 16/01/2024 |
Walk w/Devon. Parked Sandpits Down car park. Pilot Hill, Walbury Hill loop. | ZacField | 28/10/2023 |
2/2 Walbury Hill with Pilot Hill from the car park near the Combe Gibbet. Tops not that exciting but pleasant views on the walks between the two and lots of Red Kites. | nickywood1 | 04/10/2023 |
Walked along Wayfarer Walk from Walbury Hill, through the gate and into the field. Back the same way to the carpark near Walbury Hill. | RowanP | 25/06/2023 |
Gentle walk from parking to ESE. Project in progress to install 4-strand electric fence round field - presumably for livestock. No gate to field before direct line to HP from track after the (small) intruding plantation so you may need to get into the field early, e.g. where the footpath crosses (assuming there is a stile or gate). | henryfm | 17/02/2023 |
summit in the middle of a cabbage patch, nice views to the north | georgecaren | 24/12/2022 |
Verge parking to the east. Then pleasant walk along frosty track. Trig pillar in a bolted crop of cabbage. The summit is somewhere in the vicinity. | cjo | 16/12/2022 |
Pilot Hill [Pilot S1687] > Walbury Hill Historic shoulder of > Walbury Hill [Inkpen 11798] from GR: SU 38001 61579 | ronaldo333 | 11/09/2022 |
Ascended from the bus stop at Three Legged Cross near Crux Easton. The Wayfarers Walk is lovely on a fine spring day. There was no problem accessing the right field, which is adjacent to the path. However, finding the actual trig point/summit involved walking through thorny, harvested crops for about 500 yards. Dusted myself off and continued to Walbury Hill. | hillbagger91 | 27/05/2022 |
Trig point in private field.Shame that the highest point in hampshire is private land | freethehilltops | 24/04/2022 |
Did Pilot Hill on the same day as Walbury Hill in the same walk. Very easy navigating, just followed the main track that goes towards both county tops, then divert to reach the summit of Hampshire just like Berkshire's Summit. Easy, but almost forgettable. | DavidHiner | 12/07/2021 |
Did this before Walbury Hill. Straight up from East End via Brenda Parker way. Stunning views from the ridge. | cjwilliams | 07/07/2021 |
Missed this when we did Walbury Hill. Found small lay-by parking to east opposite track heading west up to top. Walked up right of way/Wayfarer's Way, then umarked track to top. | CreakingHiker | 25/05/2021 |

County Top 6. A double top day. Mostly grey but still fantastic views across Newbury on on into Oxfordshire. Walked along tracks from Faccombe. Saw a weasel but it could have been a stoat! | pclyndes | 09/09/2020 |
Stopped en-route to cottage in Dorset | ParkerP1960 | 26/08/2020 |
Second of the day. Had to wade through knee high grain to the trig point and likely summit | lerritt | 16/08/2020 |
Nice easy walk from car park, also ticking off Walbury Hill. Longer walk back through Combe. | ondi | 01/08/2020 |
Walked along from West Woodhay Down CP and like previous bagger got to nearest point possible without trashing farmer's wheat crop. An excellent ridge for lepidopterists with a profusion of skippers, red admiral, marbled white and meadow browns seen. | JOHNS | 26/06/2020 |
We parked in Combe Gibbet car park and having visited Walbury Hill we continued on the path to Pilot Hill. We chose not ruint he farmers crops, just to arrive at the closest place to the trig point. | Sapphirites | 25/06/2020 |
26km walk from Woodhay Down. | atreides7887 | 24/05/2020 |
1st of 3 tumps on a traverse from Kintbury to Bedwyn stations. Lovely Spring sunshine. First the train from Newbury then minor lanes, passing Hell Corner, West Woodhay house and church and following fp upto the Wayfarer's walk. I followed the route up just past the woodland before easily walking up into field to explore the summit and then over to the trig with nice views of a large spreading tree on the other side. I wandered around this levellish top before re-tracing steps and continuing to Walbury Hill... | Dazingdale | 22/03/2020 |
Walked on from Walbury Hill, good views NE. Could see the top of Didcot Power Station with binoculars. | jarmin45 | 04/01/2020 |
Wayfarers Walk from Walbury Hill, turn right into field to trig point. | gazgib | 31/12/2019 |
Approached along the bridleway from Faccombe, left on the Wayfarer's Walk and then up the side of the little copse to the trig. | Eggletina | 27/09/2019 |
Rolling hills. Walbury Hill, Pilot Hill, Combe Hill, Summer Hill, Inkpen Hill and Combe Gibbet. | peter_tun | 08/09/2019 |
Along track from east, then tramlines through crop. | PGCE | 28/08/2019 |
Combined with walk to Walbury Hill. Found this trig point difficult to find in the corn field but got it in the end. | acolling | 12/08/2019 |
Visited by party of 14 on Tim's birthday circular walk. Started at Crown & Garter pub in Inkpen Common. Very gradual ascent via West Woodhay House & Highwood farm. Superb views east towards Newbury & beyond up to Wayfarer's Walk bridle track. Trig point hidden in middle of full grown crop of oats, so no access possible. Disappointing that farmer had not left pathway. Not the most satisfying county top at this time of year! Continued on to Walbury Hill. | timbo99 | 06/07/2019 |
About an hours walk further along from Walbury Hill. Skylarks singing over high point, great views. | Eliza100 | 04/05/2019 |
Lovely walk along bridleway from lay by to SE of summit; it really merited a longer walk along the escarpment but we did not have time. Superb views NE; Cold wind and weak sun. HP and trig near but not the same location. Field with new crop growing so may not be feasible to access all year. | Denise | 27/04/2019 |
With Denise once we got the correct hill! Trig pillar and summit. | RichardM | 27/04/2019 |
Walbury Hill/Pilot Hill and lunch on Combe Hill watching Paragliders taking off, on a beautiful, clear and sunny Spring day, with Charlotte | mazz | 30/03/2019 |
Combined with Walbury Hill along Wayfarers walk . Found trig in field . | D SID | 27/03/2019 |
On own. After visiting Walbury Hill. SE along bridleway 'Wayfarer's Walk' and across field, with remnants of uncollected turnips, to trig point. Great views to N and towards Newbury from ridge. | Beeliner | 21/03/2019 |
Walk along part of Wayfarers Way. Misty day but occasional views into valley below. | Ramblingpaul | 26/12/2018 |
Lovely walk up from Woolton Hill with Peter Doyle. Stubble field. No access problems. Went on along the ridge to Walbury Hill. | Dangerous Dave | 25/11/2018 |
Walk from Highclere to Bedwyn. The stretch along the ridge by Pilot Hill is lovely. Plenty of buzzards and red kites circling close by. | jedthehumanoid | 25/10/2018 |
Started at East Woodhay church for easy parking, found trig point in stubble field. Suspect actual top is 1m higher at 50m to North East on crest. On to Walbury Hill now | Nick | 09/09/2018 |
Six Trig tour with Minnie, very warm all day, Hackpen Hill from hilltop parking plus White Horse & a bonus crop circle, then Walbury Hill sheep pasture from parking to East then Pilot Hill, roadside parking to SE, Beacon Hill- steepest of the day, then Wabbit hunting on Watership Down, finally a wander on Greenham Common, not a listed top but found the trig. | apricorum | 24/06/2018 |
with Sam and Stephen | Ben Tindal | 10/06/2018 |
Muddy pathway on Wayfarers Way. Light and persistent rain | Buck | 08/04/2018 |
Parked at corner of a road walked to this county top via a track then into a crop field with Trig a summit, this bag was as done with the its neighbour the county top of Berkshire | jmistry86 | 19/01/2018 |
Pilot Hill and Walbury Hill, gaining access by bike. Route up to Pilot Hill from SU 40823 59713 was fine on bike but down to road at SU 38333 61430 was very muddy and had to push the bike. Route up and down to Walbury Hill was fine on bike but you do have to climb over fence to get to summit (not a public footpath). | tsharp | 21/11/2017 |
From the east. Threatening skies at the end of the day. Wandered round the summit field and trig point. 5th county top of the day along the M4 corridor. Three involved nice walks. | Barbara Singer | 16/11/2017 |
Pleasant walk from the east along the edge of the scarp. Huge views north in the increasing gloom of late afternoon. | Campbell Singer | 16/11/2017 |
Highest point in Hampshire so used as a training exercise. Dry, bright weather and great views | Mickeyfinn | 08/10/2017 |
Not convinced trig is the top. Field of soft stubble so able to walk the crest to be sure of crossing the top just in case. | ijpowell | 08/09/2017 |
petey | 31/08/2017 | |
Circuit from Walbury Hill via Faccombe and Linkenholt | rjf35 | 28/08/2017 |
Combined with a walk to Walbury Hill. Really lovely day for a walk along Wayfarers Walk. The crop had been recently harvested, so easy to find the trig. | WendyWozEre | 06/08/2017 |
4hr circuit from Kintbury to Walbury and Pilot Hills. Mostly road and country walking but the ridge between the two hills very lovely. Actually visited the fence junction at SU398598 thinking it was the county top - turns out it's only a district top so if collecting district tops ever becomes a thing at least I'm one ahead. | Mark Jackson | 08/07/2017 |
With CP | garth87 | 02/07/2017 |
Climbed up from the E - on our '25 Trig Points in a Day' half term challenge. | DanMaisieBex | 17/02/2017 |
From Walbury Hill. Crowds on Walbury Hill but no-one else on the ridge to Pilot Hill. Impressively steep hillside and good ridge feel by southern England standards. | Wycombe Wanderer | 27/12/2016 |
Parked at the phone box in East End village and then approached the escarpment, with Helen, along the Brenda Parker Way. Approaching the submit, via the Trigpoint, plenty of sheep, but no views as we were in grey drizzly, cloud. Heard Ravens kronking in the mist. | JohRvs | 10/12/2016 |
A slight detour on a circular from Faccombe via Wayfarer's Way and Ashmansworth with Lyndsey. Good views from the Wayfarer's Way. As so often I had to cross a stubble field but the position is clear. Lot's of pheasant shooting. | Sixtyplus | 26/11/2016 |
From East along FP. First to HP and then Trig, field was stubble in November. | PeterD | 13/11/2016 |
County top outing from the same parking spot as Berkshire's top walk down the road to the right of the car and opposite the farm track till a T junction where you follow the Wayfarer's way to the field with the trig point in which is not visable from the path. The field in question is just after the small woodland you walk through pick a time when the crops have been harvested to aid in finding the trig. Route found in Jonny Muir's book of County Tops. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 11/11/2016 |
with Walbury Hill from car park on ridge | prwild | 10/10/2016 |
PARKED ON MINOR ROAD JUST TO THE EAST AND WALKED OUT AND BACK TO COMBE GIBBET. CORN READY FOR HARVESTING SO JUST FOLLOWED GAPS MADE BY TRACTOR TO POINT BETWEEN NEW SUMMIT AND TRIG POINT. RECKON THIS WAS GOOD ENOUGH AS TOP VERY FLAT. | BURGESS | 31/07/2016 |
An easy enough stroll from Walbury hill though. The last contour proved a tad tricky in that the top is covered in a blanket of corn. Tractor pathways located and trig found. Views better from the edges rather than the top. | stig_nest | 15/07/2016 |
wandered down the track from Walbury. Trig point in wheat field (wheat 3ft high) but a tractor track went from corner of wood to the trig ...handy. Clear day. | keithelliott | 14/07/2016 |
From Walbury Hill car park. Trig in crop field. Summit probably moves about every time farmer ploughs the field. | Lionel Bidwell | 15/06/2016 |
14 mile circular walk from West Woodhay church included Walbury Hill. Highest peak in Hampshire. | Graeme | 14/05/2016 |
A circular walk with Joe & Tommy from East Woodhay. Very steep slopes up to Wayfarers Way then an easy amble to the summit. Good views from the track. In field took in trig point and also high point to the North West. | fnem | 12/03/2016 |
Quick out and back run from the car park after Wallaby Hill. | Swindon Bagger | 13/10/2015 |
From ESE. Parking OK. | jimbloomer | 09/10/2015 |
With Katy. With Berkshire 5.6 mile Windy, misty and cold. | George Thompson | 21/09/2015 |
Along Wayfarer's Walk from car park at Walbury Hill. There was a tractor spraying the field so I didn't go up to the summit. | r.ashwell | 13/09/2015 |
back along Wayfarers Way from Walbury Hill and then up across the field to trig pillar. Crops have been harvested (September) so easy to locate. | mapple | 08/09/2015 |
Enjoyable walk, combined with Walbury Hill. | edmundjohnson | 04/09/2015 |
Easy access to trig. No crop, no fence, no men with guns. | ngthack | 29/08/2015 |
1/2 A quick duo after work on lovely sunny day climbed from east along track to stubble | Fergalh | 14/04/2015 |
A footpath nearby has been closed by the council for a year 'because of danger to the public' - not sure why - perhaps it is a beware-of-the-leopard situation? | M3WDD | 29/03/2015 |
Hey no hedges or fences, just stubble access disappointingly without problem! With Rogue | maltose | 08/03/2015 |
With Tash round trip with Walbury hill 5 hours | pigerg | 27/02/2015 |

Parked in Netherton, walked through Faccombe and joined Wayfarer's Walk to Pilot Hill and on to Walbury Hill. Picked our way to the vague summit, avoiding damaging the crop. Great views to the north. | callumorr | 17/05/2014 |
Drizzly walk from Ashmansworth with Dad and Paul after a great pub lunch in Faccombe. | mikejacobs | 25/04/2014 |

Bagged with Walbury Hill as part of walk from Ham village along the Wayfarer's Walk trail. Short walk across stubble field to trig point. | The Gardener | 26/09/2012 |
Not truly bagged but got very close (wayfarers way), but field to high with crop to tresspass. Need to come back in winter. Part of cycle ride from Whitchurch (got there on the train) to Fleet. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/209542980 | Tom | 11/08/2012 |
Outstanding views along the Wayfarer's Walk from Walbury Hill although muddy in places but of course a lot of rain must be expected in June. Field full of crops so had to be content with forming a human pyramid with Kate and Lesley to enable my head to be above the summit. | Newton Maximus | 16/06/2012 |
Another "hop over a fence to reach the summit" hill. The trig point is in the middle of a field. | JohnStoneham | 22/04/2012 |

Jim | BHMC | 21/03/2012 |
Nice walk from the road to the east past a very nice house. When you get to the public footpath that cuts across the track take this into the field. The trig if off at about 2 o'clock as you face the large field. This will avoid the electric fence late | simon and co | 31/01/2012 |
County top bagging walk from Ashmansworth, Walked along ridge to Pilot Hill (completely in fog) and Walbury Hill (completely in sun), also bagged the trig on Inkpen Hill. | DanTrig | 29/01/2012 |

Charldown impressive. Trig in field. 39773 60195 does seem higher - GPS gave 3m higher (height unreliable on GPS) but it cannot have been that much. Its all so flattish may as well make the trig the top. | destaylor | 03/11/2008 |
Trig point in the middle of a field behind a new copse which is not on the maps. | clivevilla | 16/09/2008 |
