Been aware of this gig just off the east side of the M1 between jnc 28 n 29 for couple of years. Finally after dreadful delays on the road or of York to the birth had already made me an hour and a half later getting here than I'd normally expect, today it seemed appropriate just to add another 20/25 Minutes and get it done. Fabulous miner sculpture on the summitvegibagger27/09/2019

I took a walk up from Teversal Visitors Centre and took the circular route around Silverhill Wood Country Park. It was a beautiful clear morning with a good frost. The circuit takes you round to the Miner statue from where you get a great view out over the county. I dropped back onto the road and headed back to the visitors centre for a drink and a flapjack. All round a great little tump.simonshrewsbury19/11/2017

Climbed with my shared dog, Lexi Rue. Started at Glapwell alighting from Pronto bus. Wked through estate and then fp linking to minor lane leading to boulevard inside the Hardwixk park estate. Stopped for soup at Stables cafe and then into Lady Spencers wood, climbing down over one fence to skirt Dovedale wood, clambering over stream through Willow carr vegetation and out into a field again crossing stream and climbing up thickly vegetated slopes, backtracking N about 20 metres to find faint path traversing the hillside which eventually led to gravel track which we followed to the summit. Fantastic views!! Descent by continuing on track to FackleyDazingdale20/10/2015

A smoothly landscaped hill with trails made from the spoil of the former Silverhiil Colliery. On top is a detailed sculpture of a miner testing for gas. When built five extra metres were added to the top to make it the highest point in Nottinghamshire -(as still claimed on sign below) but detailed surveying (see data base of British hills) has calculated the honour goes by 30cms to Newtonwood Lane. The surveying did not include the large rocks placed on top at the points of a compass or under the statute.Chris Pearson08/08/2015

Despite being man-made and lower than Newtonwood Lane, decided to bag anyway for completeness. Good car park, paths and miners summit at top - certainly the best slag heap I have ever seen! Gt Grandad worked at Pleasley Colliery (now museum), which you can see from the top. Great uncle and namesake died at nearby Glapwell pit in 1924.Hillsidenick31/10/2012

Parked as others and jogged up slope. Bit strange, the spruce is growing up nicely, although bronze miner and views are nice its clearly artificial, nearby Whiteborough hill (Newtonwood Lane) is real and therefore preferred.nordicstar11/09/2012

Marginally higher than the rival Herrod's Hill or Newtonwood Lane, but man-made (does it count?). This will be a very nice stroll once all the trees have grown a bit, but I hope they don't obscure the excellent view. Very busy, even on a cold day.wheresthepath27/04/2007

Best 'non-mountainous' county top I've done - superb view, superb artwork (bronze miner 'testing for gas' in tribute to the miners of the Notts Collieries, all 65 of them from 1819-2005) plus a tricky little mantleshelf if you want to pat his helmet!signyred17/08/2006

It was once a colliery but has now been reclaimed. The hill has been vegetated with grass and trees only the rough ground belies its former state. The route up was from the car park on the SW side.garyhoney21/09/2002
