Logged Descriptions  (logged by 340 users)ByDate of Ascent
From Loch an Eilein, starting at old cottage (NH896086), N of car park, through broken gate, and straight up unpleasant steep slopes of fallen trees, reaching summit area and short walk to the summit, returned down track from summit, initially SE but curving and zigzagging back to very near the start and the route I should have taken [from the broken gate, head on track initially S along fence, look for a thin track heading up] (1h20m)kdbennett01/03/2024
While staying in friend Alan's mobile home on caravan park just south of the Loch Morlich road, Aviemore. A late afternoon ascent from the car park on the NE. Dusting of last nights snow on the ground. Very different from my midsummer accent 11 years ago, but same route. Objective an air dry clay mould of the 10767 Vanessa's FB. On the summit about 25 mins after sunset. Chilly, as to be expected. For enthusiasts of number geek stuff + memories the 'The Angie Corrie' this FB is Editor Dave Hewitt's 6th birthday trig on his 'Birthday Trig Walk of Life' and a century on, in 2067 it'll be the 56th birthday pillar of the Beckham's daughter, Harper Seven. Okay now you can roll your eyes at the random nature of dates I store in my head.vegibagger22/02/2024
Circular route clockwise around Loch an Eilein and up the shallower side. The section immediately after leaving the Loch-side circular route has a lot of fallen trees to climb over or crawl under. The start of the climb proper (RHS of a locked deer fence) is sketchy in places; gps and All Trails was useful. Good views from topPaul Digard11/02/2024
From the Loch an Eilean car park - over the stile behind the toilet block and up the path. Lots of fallen trees from recent storms blocking the path, although easy to divert around. Icy rocks near the top. 2km, 40 mins.Rockdoctor02/01/2024

Tried an ascent from the south west but it was infested with deer fences with padlocked gates. Went round to the car park and managed to squeeze through the (padlocked) gate, then up via path. Low cloud and a bit wet so no views.Fife Walking05/10/2021
From Loch an Eilean car park on path.Winterfloodian04/09/2020
from the north end of the Loch an Eilein car park, over style next to big gate, behind building that you see from the pay station. Then follow the meandering path, all the way to the summit. A bit overgrown with ferns in places, but it gets there!! Lovely view point! (PS The parking charge has gone up to £3... I suppose you could always park remote, and cycle in)!?clanbonham25/07/2020
M90 bus to Aviemore, walk from there.BasherBob08/03/2020
Parked at Loch an Eilein then up steep slopes to the top. Snowing heavily with little view.Simon Winton29/01/2020
From car park, over very tall stile in corner of field behind the building and followed the path all the way up.Alancache12/08/2019
From car park, easy walk, good views.iangalbraith03/07/2019
Suggest you come in the evening if you wish to avoid car park fees. This evening was glorious. The cool of the woodland path was in stark contrast to the hottest day of the year (so far) outside of the leaf canopy. Fabulous summit views in every direction.summitter28/06/2019
From estate car park £1.50 per person. Went over stile behind toilet no track from there. On way down followed track which came out by locked gate with stile at north end of car park.rogreeves19/04/2019
Started from N end of Loch an Eilein CP, at a vertical style, next to a gate, behind a hut. Pretty good zig-zag path to summit. Summit rock is a boulder perched on smaller rocks. Views are excellent - among the best.ger29/12/2018
With Luna, Rosaidh stayed in car for this one. Nice trig, nice view, loads of ticks though, took over 30 off the dogBigNick04/08/2018
#645 From Loch an Eilein car park, didn't waste 20 mins, took step stile behind the PCs and straight up through the bracken! Descended a fine path which took me to the gate at the north end of the Car Park.tim74715/06/2018
From Loch an Eilein car park, took us 20 minutes to locate path (would a sign to the hill hurt?) but once we did it was a fairly quick route on improving path to summit, very windy today remnants of Storm Hector, I would think you would not have been able to stand on the high Cairngorms.DanTrig14/06/2018

Great wee hill. Lovely winding path up, with challenging stile over deer fence at start. Well worth £1.50.ngthack07/06/2018

Running, with circuit of Loch an Eilean. Cold, no snow. Maya waiting in car. Rounsfell02/04/2018
Storm came through in the morning so this was an afternoon bag, higher summits being impossibly windy and snowy. With Andrew K, Peter J, Andrew M. Police Accident signs at the B970 junction with the minor road to Loch an Eilein, so parked there, adding a mile walk each way. No sign of any accident. Crossed the deer fence behind the building at the north of the car park, followed the zig zags. Good views at the top, albeit cloud level about 700m covered most of the hills. Lovely hill.Owen B14/02/2018
From CP on Rothiemurchus Estate to E - £1.50 all day parking. With Steve Smith and Steve Lewis, en-route from Newtonmore to Kinlochewe.jonglew03/02/2018
Picked up on route from Newtonmore to Kinlochewe with Jon Glew and Steve Lewis. Total distance walked 1.15 miles with 179m of ascent. Parked in Rothiemurchus paid (£1.50) paid car park. Followed path north after climbing over gate then sharp left turn up steep wooded ground approaching summit from west. Descended of summit along ascent route and found a slightly less steep but still wooded descent further south direct to gate and car park.mntainman03/02/2018

Short climb from Loch an Eilein car park.wozzat24/06/2016
Luckily no one was collecting the £1.50 per person parking charge when we arrived at the tourist trap of Loch an Eilean. Climbed over the locked gate at the norhern end of the parking area (behind a building) and then doubled back to the unused but pleasant zig zag path to the top. Not a very friendly place for tight hill baggers but great views of the snow storms sweeping over the Cairngorm's made it worthwhile.mindlessflogger22/12/2015

Along with Nozzer, climbing up from the car park through deep snow. The deer had been scrapping the snow away to find food and we watched a tree creeper foraging for insects up a silver birch trunk. The top was blasted by an arctic wind but the views were spectacular.BigJ22/01/2015
Got done by the mean car park seller, so it sullied my experience of this hill. Also, it rained.Play2End16/11/2014
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log: Only said 500m from the carpark so how hard could it be! Had to scale a 6ft gate and then slog up the hill, found the path on the way down! Would have a great view I'm sure but it was thick cloud for us today!thejackrustles26/10/2014
Loch an Eilein car park (£1.50) – Climbed ladder stile over deer fence behind bothy at N. end of car park (Gate padlocked) – S. along deer fence for about 20m and then took faint path which zigzags up through woods to SE ridge – Along SE ridge to summit. (S)gerrybowes17/10/2014

Very user friendly - path to summit from visitor centre at Loch an Eilein.Buteobuteo21/06/2007
From Loch an Eilein CP. We had no clue about paths so walked along N shore and up least steep ground, final approach on broad SW ridge. Came across a colony of Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterflies, always a good find, 100 m below top, in very open woodland. There were paths on the heathery top so we followed one down- it led to zigzags back to the CP. Not too bad going, up, though, but NB this was May not Aug! Great viewpoint for Spey Valley.pwheeler20/05/2007
