From parking area on A86 near Loch Ulvie. Followed SMC route up burn and then NE to summit, then WH route steeply down back to the car. Plenty fresh snow from about 300m, and a lot of hard water ice on path and rocks along summit ridge. I don’t recommend the WH ‘shortcut’, it’s rough and wet for the sake of it. Ridge far betterRockdoctor30/12/2023
Parked half-mile east of Auchmore and went through gate a short way to the west. Up the track to gate in fence. Followed indistinct path to stile, the clear, steep, rocky path to the top. Bright sunshine. Terrific outing.the pigguy 31/10/2023
Parked opp L. Uvie, back along road to 'gate' - actually sheep hurdles! - opp lodge entrance. up on delightful meandering path through birch and oak woodland, with good views of crags, to open hillside. R on path following fence to stile and good path to summit. Outstanding viewpoint with fresh snow all around on higher hills.MichaelF13/10/2023
From Auchmore, parked sensibly opposite drive. Up good track through pasture to its end at NN671962, then on small boggy path to stile on ridge where good path leads to summit. Back same way.Flatfield19/09/2023

Followed the walkhighlands route. Very steep up the left of the plantation, very blustery along the ridge higher up. Fantastic viewpoint on a very atmospheric day of blue sky over Strathspey and dark clouds over the Cairngorms. Back down the delightful Allt na Glaic, spectacular waterfall high up to the left, goats grazing, cuckoo in earshot.Owen B27/05/2022

Parked in small layby on A86 below hilltop memorial and opposite a gate leading to woodland path. Followed path through silver birch woodland, reaching open ground at gate, fairly close to monument. Continued to follow fine ridge and summit of Creag Dhubh. Headed back along ridge a short distance before descending roughly W and traversing round to climb Craig Shiaraidh, visiting several possible summit locations. Descended SW to beallach and then traversing ascent to Binnein Mor. Returned to beallach and then took steady climb SW to edge of forest, following deer fence then descending to reach the gate and rejoin ascent route. Overcast and some rain / drizzle, but cloud above tops for much of route.RobertP08/11/2021
With John. Grand day out. A path (mostly) super views and a nice ridge. Sunshine. Goats including baby goats 😀. Veryhappybunny26/07/2021
Parked in layby at NN674957, walked S along A86 to Creagdubh Lodge, and through gate opposite Lodge entrance, along good path through woods to a gate in fence on E side, faint path continues through woods (worth sticking with this), crosses burn and continues out of the wood (through bracken) to the ridge leading to Creag Dhubh, followed that all the way to the summit, path becoming more distinct upwards. Return same way.kdbennett11/07/2021
1 of 2: Parked at the climbers CP at 674957. SW on the road and then up by the Allt na Glaic. Then straightforward up the ridge. Continued 30 mins to An Torr and then returned here on the way back. With Karen.ChrisR21/06/2021
Strathspey. Little parking in forest gateway at(656948), east thro' woods to old track, north over fell then north-east ridge to Creag Dubh. Return by same route. Overcast, wet & wind strong on the tops with hill fog.Vin20/06/2021
From climber’s carpark. Up across boulder field to waterfall, up waterfall a little, found vegetated rake from waterfall all the way to ridge. Returned via cave side to north – very rough and wet outcrops and lots of vegetation. Rounsfell05/09/2020

Parked opposite Auchmore in a small layby. Followed the track which is 200yds west along the road and this takes you easily to the ridge and then a good path to the summit. 3 hour return with CM. Great views!bolton23/02/2019

After Creag Ruadh, parked at layby opposite the entrance to Auchmore which has space for a single car. Did not follow the farm track on the way up instead striking up grassy, heathery slopes along a deer fence until the main hill path was reached near a stile. Quite windy and drizzly on the summit but views still decent with the cloud high. Returned using the main path which descended quite a way before we traversed down and across to the farm track which lead us back to Auchmore.bowlesy21/05/2017
Parked at a convenient lay-by opposite Auchmore and walked back a short distance West to the track gate. We headed straight up the hill ignoring the track and ascended to the main ridge where we picked up a good path to the summit. Light rain blurred the views a little but still decent views. Returned by the main path though we stayed on it beyond the second stile before coming off and rejoining our route of ascent. With Chris.Peterb21/05/2017
Lovely ascent from the usual climbers' layby near Lochan Uvie. Went thru' first gate on R from trach thru wood, used climbers' track to Ceann an Fhamhair top, then the NNE ridge to the summit- beautiful, interesting mountain path and excellent summit. For our descent we left the ridge at the 2nd gate down and soon picked up an old path in Coire Cadha, much higher than the maps suggested. An easily graded, longer descent with a lovely finish through the wood on the S side of Allt na Glac- perfect late afternoon light on the crags. Or you could say 'the standard route'. With Pete.pwheeler27/03/2017
From the layby on the A86, opposite the north end of Lochain Uvie. Surprised to find paths almost the whole way up this one. Recorded track and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/creag-dhubh-nn677972-756m.htmlGayle06/03/2017
Creag Dhubh Cairn (NN 677972) S/F NN 664946. Warm and sunny with very little wind, perfect day. Good path up lower slopes but leads to a fence, gate visible but 1/4 mile away so went under. Good ridge to summit with fantastic views in all directions, one of best viewpoints. Almost a Corbett in height. Descent down main ridge on good path to lower slope where it disappears, so crossed to path of ascent.John Young01/06/2016

From the layby with the bench under the crags 674958, walked up east of the cliffs to gain the path at the foot of the main ridge 673963(rough scree then follow forest edge directly up). Wet and windy on top. Returned down the southern side of the wooded valley under the monument 666954. Water fall over the crags was putting on a fine show.mindlessflogger21/12/2015

Solo. Approach from NE, initially following route of Creag Dhubh Hill Race as described in 'Classic Hill Runs and Races in Scotland' by Steve Fallon. Deviated to Graham Top An Torr and continued to Creag Dhubh. Returned on well trodden path going back NE. Came to a well constructed cairn a little of the path. Hill Runs book indicated race went to summit of An Torr where there is a large cairn. No cairns on Graham Top so race cairn must be the one just off path. Confirmed back home when 1:25,000 map showed name An Torr adjacent to this cairn and not the Graham Top.pwbellarby22/06/2014

From road by Creagdhubh lodge w Jenx, parking just to North in 100m. Iron gate at GR672954 gives access to track. At gate in 200m go through to birch wood. Follow faint path up onto ridge, skirts crags w great views back to Lagan and over Insh marshes, Cairngorms beyond. Heathery path with minor scrambles leads to twin cairn top. Back same way. Ignore track on map, leads to bog!nordicstar06/05/2013
