I had planned on doing the 4 eastern Munros of the Fannichs range of hills near Ullapool. But the weather had my body had other ideas. Started early around 07:30, suitably welcomed by the midgies from the car all the way round for the full day as there was barely any wind all day. Had to wear a jacket and hood on the two munros in a daft attempt to shield from the buggers. I progressed along the forestry then ATV track up onto Creag Dhubh Fannaich then Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich (954m), the days first Munro. The views east toward Ben Wyvis and north to Am Faochagach (yesterday's hill) were incredible with the low mist, the hills looked like islands in a sea of cloud. Sgurr Mor (1108m) was the days second Munro and final, as I had ran out of water as I ascended to the Munro Top of Meall nan Peithirean (971m). With the heat I had drunk 3L and was only 1/2 round the planned route. Plus I was ill (vomited for the 1st time on a hike) I suspect due to dehydration while decending Sgurr Morchillyman815/08/2020

Dropped Smithy at W end of Loch Droma as he wanted to bag Sgurr Mor in particular. Then moved car SE for usual starting point for An Coileachan & Meall Gorm. Followed SMC book route over Munros & tops meeting Smithy just S of Sgurr Mor summit. He had decided to go on to the 2 Munros I had already been over. So I continued over Sgurr Mor & Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich. Descended SE over Creag Dhubh Fannaich on increasingly rough ground to rejoin the outward route. Pursued by a colossal swarm of midges lower down which engulfed the car while I waited some time for Smithy.NotReallyABagger03/09/2002

With a friend. A long day in the Fannaichs. We left at 07:15 and walked up the west side of Abhainn an Torrain Diubh (small path), and then north side of Allt an Loch Sgeirich. Burns full so a little difficulty in crossing this burn, then to Creag Dhubh Fannaich (757m). We continued to Beinn Liath Mhòr Fannaich. It was now very misty and it drizzled. Continued to Sgùrr Mòr, Meall Gorm and An Coileachan.pwbellarby16/04/1994
