| From Kinlochhourn road near west end of Loch Quoich. 10 1/2 hrs, starting at 0600. The weather was glorious and water levels low, which meant that crossing Callie Water and Abhainn Chosaidh was very straightforward. Saw a Ring Ouzel. | Boat from Inverie with Iain Wilson on Calanna. Torr Cruinn pier at Camusrory. Carnoch bridge rebuilt but we stayed on west side of Carnach River. Headed up from 886977. Gruesome climb in very hot temperature. Great views from the summit. Toiled descent with plenty to drink. 8.5 hours for return boat which should have been 18.00 but left at 19.15 due to snagged rope on prop. Old Forge to refresh! Introduced to the estate owner. | Parked at 994035 (Loch Quoich). Calm, sunny, warm. Couldn't find the broken bridge (on return I found it further downstream than I expected), so wasted 20 minutes finding a place to cross higher up. Good progress to the dams, then followed the north side of the Allt Coire na Cruaiche, but never found much of a path and took a minor tumble on a slippery boulder in a stream. Went to the north of the large outcrop (small 800m contour on the 1:25,000), this was frustratingly slow going. On descent followed the south side of the coire which generally seemed better. | Via a long walk along the north west shore of Loch Quoich as far as the Cosaidh crossing, then on a good track. Ascended the ENE ridge, wild and rugged but no difficulties that I could not bypass. | From Loch Quoich . Somebody had pulled the plug out! Able to walk along the sandy shore. River crossings non existent. However, still a long walk in and out. Ascended by the north east ridge. | Via Canadian Canoe along Loch Quoich. Put in at grid ref NH004031; the Loch level was at least 5m below that shown on the map: lifting the canoe out again was a struggle! Camped at NM933994. Ascended via NE ridge (to north of Allt Coire na Cruaiche) with spectacular views and some easy scrambling. Recommend sticking to the crest for the easiest route up to a huge boiler plate slab area. From here minor difficulties could be avoided by walking to the south of the prominent ridge (my return route); recommend sticking to the crest of the ridge though. Great views of Knoydart from the summit with Rum, Eigg and Skye beyond. Returned broadly via route of ascent due to time constraints - would have been nice to take in Meall a' Choire Duibh to form a horseshoe walk. Fantastic mountain! | raffemeister | 27/03/2017 |
| Overnight backpack from Strathan. Followed path to col between Sgurr na Ciche and Garbh Chioch Mhor, then contoured to join NE ridge of Sgurr na Ciche. Descended through crags to reach beallach then ascent to Meall a'Choire Dhuibh (also alternative top), rough traverse to Ben Aden E top then steep climb and final narrow ridge to reach Ben Aden (approx 7h). Returned by same route, with spectacular overnight camp on NE ridge of Sgurr na Ciche in shallow beallach below summit. | On tour in Knoydart during the summer heat wave. Excellent rocky little mountain but I wouldn't like to do it in mist. Followed ridges from Sgurr na Ciche, dumped sacks at lochans west of Meall a Choire Dhuibh, ascended along east ridge and descended Allt Achadh a Ghlinne which was handy for a cooling dip. | MC JC. On 21/10 walked in along the side of Loch Quoich. Had hoped to kayak but very windy. The ground is very rough. L. Quoich very low. Full packs. 4h to Lochan nam Breac. Camped in a beautiful spot at the head of the Loch although struggled to get tent up in the wind. Had intended to climb Ben Aden that evening but abandoned due to the weather, with driving rain. On 22/10, set off at 0650 with cloud down to 550m. No view from the top. Found a 1950s camera! Back at tent 10.30. Breakfast and set off for Sgurr a Choire-bheithe via Mam Unndalan. Hot, sweaty and midgey. Summited at 2.30 and descended of the south side of the peak. Mistake - should hve carried on along the E ridge. Evidence of a large recent rockfall. Back at tent for 4.30. Packed up and back out via L Quoich. Torture, with clouds of midges and flies making it impossible to stop. Cosaidh crossed with a little difficulty in midge hell.
