start picnic spot 7623 5760 plantation tracks to 7580 5658 then south in to trees old rotten fenceline 7586 5647 then open very rough wet ground trying to bee line south taking time dont want to fall here some bog very deep summit small pile of stones good views of moel siabod. small hill bur sense of achievement 6 ks in total taking 3 hours may be easier in dryunderhill03/01/2024
Parked at 75174 57310 as others and, for the upper part of the walk followed their route successfully. I went up one route up the drive and down another but neither worked very well. Quite a tough hill that took be over 2 hours to cover a total of four and a half miles.clivevilla30/08/2023
Grateful for jacobrichmond's detailed log. Good parking at SH 75174 57310 & up RoW & then track, vague in places, to around 750553 - E. across rough ground to fence line & then NE along fence line (N. side) until about 200m from fence junction; not too bad as plenty of animal trods - Over bwf & E. to fence junction at SH 75423 55515 - Over bwf & NE along fence line (N. side) to summit cairn; not as many animal trods. Took JR's advice & back same way.gerrybowes05/02/2023
Third attempt with Rufus, started at SH 75174 57310 and parked against edge of forest track adjacent to ROW leading to Cae Awr. Previous attempts from Sarn Helen (thick brambles and gorse repulsed me) and a forest track from Cae'n y Coed (no clear route through trees to reach open hill). Quite an easy ascent following the ROW past Cae Awr & Bryn Gefailiau almost to the end of the track, as ended directly E to point 342 via a single BWF and reasonable but spiky terrain. Followed the highest ground along the ridge via another 1-2 BWF's to the summit without much difficulty just some gorse and patches of deep tussocks. Stupidly decided to descent directly W to beeline to the ROW which ended up in stupidly deep tussocks with bog in between, unavoidable gorse, spruce and also a horrific patchwork of brambles. I had to put the dog over my shoulder for the final 200m and absolutely shredded my legs getting down. So, I repeat, ascend directly E to point 342m and follow the ridge to the summit,jacobrichmond30/01/2023
Staying with friends at Rhiw Goch to the south, up roman Road NNE to track junction in forest. Left on track up and round to west and further on unmapped track on felled hillside. Then Left down to fence line, then NW up along fenceline mapped as forest edge. Dangerous marshy area just before final fifteen metres rise to summit. Return route south along eastern edge of summit ridge and then SE along watershed line. Important to stay 2-300m north of the farm near track to avoid steep gorse and other thick foliage area to get back to track. MY RETURN ROUTE PROBABLY BEST ACCENT LINE WITH LEAST Difficulty. Leave track & go nnw on to hillside about 300m north of Fron Goch farm. Then follow watershed on 1.25k map.vegibagger07/07/2021
I was staying at Ty Uchaf so went from there on a beautiful sunny day. I went up through the fairly impenetrable woods to the NW of Ty Uchaf, heading NW in a very zig-zaggy manner as there are many fallen trees and younger growth which is too dense to get through. Eventually made it out of the woods and proceeded across the open moor which was much as others have described. Deep grasses, spiky things, uneven ground, etc. Made it to the summit in about 90 mins. Thought that on the way back down I would follow the fenceline to Sarn Helen on the basis that the fence was probably on more stable ground. Wrong! Walked straight into a bog, got a welly full of water, took me ages to get out of said bog but eventually I decided to turn back through the impenetrable forest. Very slow going and had to keep re-routing until eventually I got through that and onto an old logging road back to Sarn Helen. The return took me about 2 hours all in! Great views at the top, great sense of achievement.GC22/04/2021
After Clogwyn-brith, Mynydd-bychan & Allt y coed. Tried route from NE via woodland NW of Ty-uchaf. Can't say whether better or worse than other routes, suffice to say this top is not easily won! Agree with marktrengove - lovely wilderness..TK13/01/2019
From the footpath heading south past Cae Awr. Hard going over all sorts.jrj05/02/2018
Parked at picnic area at SH 76239 57597. Walked west along the A5 (pavement) to a bend before a bridge, taking a lane left. After 300m turned south-west on an old green lane up past Cae Awr, and Bryn Gefeiliau onto the open moor. Left the track at SH 75028 55766 to scale some small crags onto the plateau. Then the real work began through bogs, heather, bilberry and low-lying gorse, spiced up by three barbed wire fences to tackle. Hard work, but not as bad as other comments had led me to believe. Found a better route on my return, following a fence (not shown on the map) over Pt. 344m - only one barbed wire fence to tackle. Then took my outward route down, but used the winding forest track back to the car park. A great wilderness area. Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet.Man of Kernow104/07/2017
Parked at picnic area Cae'n y Coed just after Swallow falls. Followed the marked trail up through forest intending to use path marked on map to leave forest. Unfortunatly whilst on top forestry road couldn't locate this path or find an alternative way so made my way to western end of forest via the forestry road and used the footpath which comes up from Bryn Gefeilia. Then the hard work starts as per previous comments, deep heather, plenty of gorse and boggy. Will take you longer than you expect however good day today and the views all round were great.Rob5024/04/2016
Easy walk up from road on good tracks to their end at 750558 then terrible terrain all the way to and from the top. Horrendous rough 5'deep grass, gorse and heather covered climb then BWF and two more cross ridges. Fell several times in vegetation. A 5 hour epic. Worst hill I've been on for years. Ugh!arranc03/09/2015
Parked at Dolwyddelan. Decided to take this on the way onto Moel Siabod. Incredibly hard going ascent from the south east, although it was worth the effort for some fine views of Moel SiabodAlunRees3124/09/2014

Nice once reached, but previous comments seconded! Made heavy weather of this: decided to take in Allt y Coed (but gave up) and approach to Cribau from SE is heavy going; NB gorse and floating bog immediately S of summit - keep R if you do go that way. From NW presumably least-worst. NB no feasible parking on yellow road from SW except perhaps some narrow passing places.RHW13/07/2014
There are 2 cairned summits, the northernmost is the higher. The hill is defended by bogs, thigh high sedge and heatherDC11main22/09/2012
