The Decoy Bunker was part of a deception strategy against German bombers in World War II. Two men would take alternate watches and, when air raids threatened, pop out into the fields and light incendiary devices designed to make the Luftwaffe think that they had hit the nearby Glascoed munitions factory (which is still producing munitions today). Then nip back into the bunker to await the bombs. | DC11main | 24/06/2023 |
Parked to NE, along track to decoy bunker into field to coppice, HP and memorial stone back via trig and then on to Llangibby castle. | PeterD | 21/07/2022 |
A lovely top accessed from the track to the south. I went off it one field too early resulting in a bwf to cross to get into the beech coppice. Carry on past the Decoy Bunker and there is no barrier to the hp. | Rob Rees | 21/02/2022 |
From trig to beech copse with charming stone memorial to Laybourne family. HP indistinct, probably at forest/ field boundary, near water tank. Shimmering sea views. Also visited interesting Coed Y Paen decoy bunker on track- deflecting bombs from Newport in WW2, now unusual 2 person holiday home. | Denise | 07/11/2021 |
From the trig pillar over field of pasture and a BWF into beech copse. Levelish hill top, the highest ground appears to be on the SE copse/field boundary. Nice views to the SW include the shimmering silver sea. SW corner of copse has memorial stone to the Laybourne Sisters. Water tank in adjacent field. | RichardM | 07/11/2021 |
2/2 Parked at lane entrance and walked up track for the decoy bunker, after having a look at that (and taking a sit down on the seat swing to take in the views), I followed hedgeline up the hill to both the memorial and high point. | penbet | 28/06/2019 |
Parking opposite the lane entrance. One bwf at wood. Memorial looks as if it is the high point. | Campbell Singer | 27/01/2019 |

Track from NE, then marked fp across pasture up to edge of beech grove. At far end you can slip under a wire to walk around to the quite touching memorial which is the probable hp. | clivevilla | 22/02/2017 |
Looked at renovated wartime decoy lookout lower down field after visiting summit. Views over Severn. | Adrian | 27/03/2016 |
And trig 3386 at 347975 | arranc | 02/03/2015 |
Trig first, then over b/w fence and across pasture to small copse of beech trees. Unable to determine precise summit point. Memorial plaque to Richard Stratton Laybourne on large erect stone near SW edge of copse, near OS spot height. This may be the hill summit. | jonglew | 02/08/2014 |
Trig pillar in hedgerow at ST 34767 97563.Small group of beech trees mark the summit. The small water reservior (next field)at ST 34643 97464 highest point but man made again had a walk around the field.Their is a monument at ST34657 97472. | hodder | 25/02/2012 |
Easy access to trig on right of way, then climbed barbed wire fence to get into field to the West near copse of trees. Had a good walk around as it's fairly flat, though there's a raised concrete platform (ST 34662 97458) in the corner of the field. | Tony J | 15/01/2012 |
