Parked at Enochdhu in the parking area across road from Cateran Trail. Followed trail to track fork, took the right fork. The track marked as climbing menachban doesnt exist, but atv and animal tracks make it easy. Headed south to pick up the track that skirts Whitefield Hill. Easy diversion for that, then headed down toward a track to a gap in the trees. Then down to road. Ample evidence of cattle throughout this walk, i only encountered them near Balvarran, which included a huge bull which i diverted to avoid. Nice walk | hils | 24/11/2023 |
After Menachban. On descent of Whitefield Hill there is a No Entry sign on gate in deer fence north of Balvarran claiming beyond is part of the curtilage of house. The descent along the side of the Inverchroskie Burn was through a field of cattle then before main road an electric fence and steep embankment. | hill walker | 09/07/2022 |

We followed the Cateran mini-trail marked footpath from Kirkmichael to Ashintully Castle and about another 1/2 km beyond. Once past the last plantation there was an easy line SE up to and through the woods skirting Creag nam Brataichean, a handy small gate allowing relatively easy passage through an initial top-wired stone wall. Once at the top we reversed back through the pleasant woodland and over to the south flank of Cnoc an Daimh, where intermittent grass tracks led to the summit. Cnoc a' Chaorainn and Cnoc Meadhon swiftly followed, then it was a pretty easy traverse over good ground to Barr Salachaidh. Going due south took us to a stone track, which enabled easy ascents of both Menachban and Whitefield Hill, the former having some ancient fort-like walls now under turf across its summit. A visit to the ruins of Whitefield Castle was a bonus on our route home, which was a 5 hour round in total. | summitter | 28/02/2021 |

P Enochdhu, 5th of 5-tump clockwise circuit. Descended W, keeping N of Balvarran as per signs, on pasture, easily to road. Back along road, failing to find 2 BMs en route | RHW | 31/12/2018 |
