A sunny, warm & still day with J from the A87 via the stalkers path. The path extends over the top of the hill these days. Easy ascent for a terrific view. Dropped to the Bealach a Choinich & then ascended Ciste Dhubh. Back to the bealach & on to the boggy & unpleasant path on E bank of Allt a Chaorainn Bhig back to the road. If you're just climbing Am Bathach, better to simply descend by the route of ascent.NotReallyABagger28/05/2021

From the layby on A87, ascended steeply up to Am Bathach, along grassy ridge and then dropped down into Bealach a' Choinich. Boggy ascent up to An Cnapach and then on grassy ridge with some narrower sections to Ciste Dhubh. Descended back to bealach, then down glen on rough path. Amazing conditions, with no wind and cloud inversion obscuring the bottoms of the glens. 12.8km.PiranhaFish07/11/2020

32nd – Solo. Broken cloud 800 to 1000m. Occasional strong gusts of wind. Occasional light snow showers with reduced visibility. Snow down to 400m – going difficult as not well consolidated on many slopes. Very cold. From Cluanie Inn, traverse of Am Bathach to Bealach a Choinich. Ascended Ciste Dhubh (in 'alpine condition') from Bealach and returned to Inn via An Caorann Beag.RGibbs23/02/2016

climbed on way up to join RBS HWC weekend at Kintail; tea and gingerbread at the pottery at Laggan on the way up; weather was probably best day of a mixed showery weekend; the route suggested involves climbing the ridge from near the Cluanie Inn and then continuing north, dropping to the col between this hill and Ciste Dubh and return via the glen; I decided that it was better (and probably drier simply to retrace my steps along the ridge and enjoy the views); up and down in ~3 hours so seemed in moderately good shape for the weekend. I was first at the Kintail Lodge Hotel - dealt with the teething problems (lack of linen and a kettle that leaked on a torrential scale); Crabbies Ginger beers; glass of red wine with my main course an excellent venison daube (stew) preceded by Strathdon blue cheese soufflee, whisky afterwardslangskill28/08/2015

The best weather by far on the 1991 trip to Scotland. Cluanie- Am Bathach- Ciste Dubh- Aonach Meadhoin- Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg- Saileag- Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg- Meall a' Charra- Cluanie, with brother, Pete. Am Batach was a fairly brutal addition to the Munros- thanks to Ralph Storer. But it was a worthwhile addition, a good traverse of a big hill.pwheeler22/05/1991

With three friends. Up path - An Caorann Mór and then the E Ridge of Ciste Dhubh - a long grassy slog. Conditions were unpleasant with a cold driving wind and rain. Mist and cloud were gathering on other tops. We descended the S ridge. Conditions became better so we continued over Am Bàthach. The car was reached only to find it broken into and a handbag stolen.pwbellarby31/08/1986
