From Luichart Dam, across dam (currently with repair work), along track past Glenmarksie (under renovation) to a short side track at NH371581, along that to turning circle, then a narrow foot track that rises diagonally along the flank of the hill to about 400m, more directly onto ridge and along to summit, returning the same way (3h10m) | kdbennett | 29/09/2022 |
From the east top. I had taken the route described by many to get up to the east top, very steep, difficult to find any trods due to head-high bracken, altogether not a pleasant experience. My descent route was far better, initially west from the top then down various trods (no bracken) to reach the end of the track which extends a few hundred metres further than marked on map. Could be boggy in wet conditions though. | nicolajane | 11/07/2022 |
From the Scatwell road with Rhona and Struie. Along the Gleann on a track then NW along deer tracks to reach summit ridge. | DampandDusty | 21/05/2022 |
Parked at the Luichart Dam; allegedly, the gate is only open 9-17.00 Mon-Fri but I got in and out just fine on a Saturday in November. Good track through lovely trees, then past the farm, leads into newly planted trees with unmapped deer fence but the gate to the mapped grassy branch track gets you through and out onto the hill. Other fences have gone. Excellent deer tracks from the grassy turning circle take you on dry ground above the bogs to cross the burn coming from the bealach W of the E top and then fainter tracks take you up the coire to a grassy exit onto the ridge. Hostile vegetables, peat hags and bogs on the ridge, though the little rocky bumps and the summit area are pleasant to walk on. Fine views. | Gill | 13/11/2021 |
Set off over the Loch Luichart Dam, along a good track westwards. A vehicle and pedestrian gate about a kilometre west of Glenmarksie provided access onto the open hill. Steep in places, but relatively straightforward ascent to Sgurr Marcasaidh East Top, then far more pleasant saunter over to the main summit. Decided to next head north over heather to grab Meall Loch a' Bhealaich and Druim a' Ghiubhais, before skirting the south bank of Loch a' Bhealaich to the craggier Creag nan Corrachan. Sgurrachd Ire was next, then descended SW towards Braigh Lochan, finding an ATV track half way down to relieve the heather dreariness. Popped up the more pleasant and slightly treed Carn Dubh, which involved a deer fence clamber, before re-joining the track that leads all the way back to the dam and adjacent car park. | summitter | 15/09/2021 |
From Lochluichart Dam to Glen Marksie by road not yet shown on OS Sheet. Started ascent 1km after unoccupied farm to reach ridge. Wandered out to 506 spot height for view and then westwards over East Top, Sgurr Marcasaidh and Sgurrachd Ire. With plenty of time available before dam road closure at 5pm decided to add Carn Dubh over deer fence. Mistake, upleasant hill after high level walk. | lordtonult | 13/09/2021 |
I parked right up at the dam at Loch Luichart where there is space for a number of cars, though it should be noted that signage at the gate by the house indicated that the gate is locked at 5.00pm. From here I walked over the dam and followed the estate track for around a km and then just struck up the south side of the hill. The ridge gives fine views all the way to the summit. I took a more direct route down to pick up the estate track again. | Peterb | 02/04/2021 |
Parked at Lochluichart dam, headed west on track to Glenmarksie, then further 2km or so, through a gate, then followed reasonably decent path / animal tracks off NW-ish around 250m before stone fank, to reach summit. No heather bashing required. Took just over 2 hours up. Extensive views in all directions. | willyross | 30/05/2020 |
Parked at the power station, then cycled along the road to pick up the forestry track out past Glenmarksie to its end. From here headed north up steep slopes to the top. Then headed SSW to get over to Creag Loch nan Dearcag. | Simon Winton | 23/03/2020 |
From Creag Loch nan Dearcaig. | Chris Peart | 14/05/2018 |
Park at the dam followed the track up pass glenmarksie to the end as per the map grid NH353579 turn up hill to summit. Good views all round. | Nozzer | 02/05/2018 |
Headed up to the Luichart Dam where there is plenty of parking. Walked across the dam and discovered a new track which leads onto the marked track by Glenmarksie. Followed this up the glen to the stone sheep fold and then headed straight up the hill directly to the trig. Lots of gates in the new deer fence. Extensive views all round but didn't hang about as squally showers were coming in. | BigJ | 02/05/2018 |
From Creag Loch nan Dearcag. New trees and associated fencing spoiling the way but the top is clear and a lovely spot to be. | Alan Moore | 24/02/2018 |
parked luichart dam followed track to near end up side of stream using animal tracks to dishes and onto top, returned more directly to start of track. | robertphillips | 07/10/2017 |

1 of 2: From road end near Loch Luichart Dam. | ChrisR | 18/03/2017 |
Parked just short of Dam below house with obvious parking. Gate over road, but unlocked to the Dam, doesn't seem any problem driving to the Dam all the way. Crossed Dam then track to and beyond Glenmarksie with Red Kites swirling the cliffs. Followed a good way before striking uphill on deer tracks to ridgeline and summit just beyond. Return the same way. | N.Morters | 22/10/2016 |

Parked at the dam, across the dam, along the track then broke off to top. All ok. | jenx | 17/07/2016 |
Parked up by the dam and walked across. Used new track to gain height. Walked to the point indicated by others and direct line to summit. | nordicstar | 17/07/2016 |
Cycled up track from Little Scatwell to 364581 (3 padlocked gates), then easily up to radio dishes and on to ridge. Back via new track connecting Glenmarksie to Luichart dam. | Topographer57 | 20/10/2015 |

There is a small car park at Conan Falls House. A new road leads from the Dam to join the road to Glenmarksie. A vehicle track, not shown on some maps, runs to NH354579 which is not obvious on the way out. Ascent from around NH365581 is straightforwards. | Jim.Fothergill | 05/04/2011 |
Ascended from track near Little Scatwell. Headed for Creag Loch nan Dearcag. | JohnW | 04/06/2009 |

High cloud, mild, good views. | iangalbraith | 11/09/2007 |
Glenmarksie track uphill through woods around the back of boundary wall on green path through waist high bracken to an uphill track. To ridge. Followed deer tracks through heather steeply uphill towards rocky crags and round to right. Gingerly over crags to easier ground above the slabs and to the top. No return that way! Dry tussock ups and downs with hags for 1 1/2 miles to top at 12.00. | arranc | 07/07/2006 |
