Followed Gill's route from road to NE (Gleann Udalain). ATV track fainter than in Gill's day. But bits of path here and there. Good viewpoint as others have commented.willyross14/06/2023
Very slow plodder's description spot on. This was our second attempt as in April the outlet from the loch was in full flow and we were unable to cross. Combined with Tump An Carnach.Crumblie228/05/2023
snuck car in at entrance to old track to reservoir. now a community woodland. gate opened easily. crossed outflow of reservoir. off piste . bog cotton . hummocks. over minor top, dropped to another high fenced area with a gate that opens easily. always looked fro easist way up great views from top . return same awayVerySlowPlodder22/05/2023
Done from Balnacara Square, alone , went up easy route from left passing loch. Came down steep slope.tallblond09/04/2023
From Balmacara Square. Forest road to last bend immediately below the crags. Very steep climb up the prow by a feint path. Down by easier slopes a bit further south. Solo.Dangerous Dave23/07/2022

Superb views from the summit. Steep up from Balmacara Square side.nicolajane20/04/2022
Easy route up the forest track. Then difficult ascent up the steep slope in thick mist and poor visibility. No view.Play2End09/10/2021
Visited the hill when logging the Trig, what fantastic views. visited with big JNozzer28/08/2020
Bagging the trig.BigJ28/08/2020
From Balmacara up the forest track, which give quick approach, up to the hairpin bends at GR 826289, then very steeply up, rounding the crag line to the right. A short flat section and cross an old broken deer fence to the final step pull. Stunning viewpoint given magical sunset and moodily clouds. 2/2 Marilyn.N.Morters06/08/2020
Through gate at 858298. Area newly fenced off as community woodland. Along track, through gate, exiting designated area, and across stream. Carried on along faint atv tracks between fence and lochs on wet ground then left at corner of fence to col between An Carnach & Auchtertyre Hill. Up Auchtertyre Hill to the right of more new fence then veering off towards summit. Returned on dryer ground over An Carnach.Janet M18/07/2020
From NE up hyrdo road, out and back. Very tough going underfoot. Views, sunny spells, breezy. Rounsfell13/09/2019
Parked at gate at 858 298. Hydro road up to Loch na Smeoraich, through gate, crossed stream at top hydro dam, followed faint intermittent ATV track to 300m contour and up to summit. Descent, back down, picking up an ATV track to 300m, through gate back into plantation, ATV track back to top dam, visiting An Cranach on way. Back to Car. In cloud from 375m, rain at summit and all the way down. Just over 5 Miles, 2.5 hrs. With PM.CJM22/05/2019
Same as Gill. Parked at hydro road and easy to Loch na Smeoraich. Took the faint ATV track outside of the deer fence then headed to summit with CM. Returned over An Carnach getting very wet. 2 hour 30 minutes.bolton22/05/2019
Researching an alternative route. There's a new hydro track up the Allt Loch na Smeoraich up to Loch na Smeoraich, which is useful given the new tree planting all the way across the E side of the hill. Through the forestry gate, easily across the stolen river and a new ATV track follows the fence towards the bealach between An Carna and Auchtertyre hill. A bit up and down but dead easy. From there, it's easy to get to the top, and the splendid views.Gill20/05/2019
Approach from small lay-by to E (off A890). mostly pathless - quite well defined ridges near summit. Good views.ger20/05/2019
Lovely walk up through trees onto forestry track. Up path to lochan and sat and enjoyed the view. Followed along lochan to end then headed for top.elizyanne13/04/2019
From Coillemore - seems to be an off-road gravel parking area. There are two gravel tracks, I used the older L (W) track which goes uphill, bending R after a small plank footbridge and becomes a 'green' track. After about 2 km, came to a junction with an over-sized finger post who's three fingers didn't seem to point in any correct direction and went R (E). 50 metres E of where the track crosses the Balmacara Burn a small cairn marks a ride NE through the trees to Loch a Bhealach. A distinct path runs alongside the old fence to a corner where it is delapidated, then a fainter path leads ENE to a col before and below An Carnach. From the col an intermittent ATV track improbably ascends the NE ridge to the top.Isbjorn25/01/2019
Parked at Balmacara Square, crossed bridge and up forest road keeping left where new road goes off right. At forest edge where there is small cairn, climbed steep slope and headed direct to summit arriving at same time as the rain. Back by same route.Coinneach17/07/2018

From small parking space at 853290, up via awkward north side of Maol Mor, down by easier south side. Probably easiest from lower down.Topographer5726/05/2016
From A890. Started at gates at NG8561929644, ended at the parking area at NG8490627638 and I'm not sure I took the best line inbetween! Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/auchtertyre-hill-and-beinn-amheadhain.htmlGayle12/05/2016
From parking at E end of Balmacara square, then forest road right to top of forest and straight up very steep W face. Great viewpoint if it had been clear. Might be easier from EThearlaichdubh15/08/2015
Parked w Jenx to NE near old A890 and used marked hill path up flank of Maol Mor. The top is a mess of deep sphagnum moss potholed moraine recently burned in a fire leaving stumps of heather projecting menacingly. Lovely. Having bagged that we dropped steeply into Coire Bhuidhe and climbed Auchtertyre. Great viewpoint, followed the coire and stream back out much more easily. Lots of deer damage seen to young planted scots pines and beech saplings.nordicstar04/01/2015

With J, Martin66, JC & Otis during a week in Strathcarron. My brother has his dates mixed up again... Small hill, big view! Parked just off the A890 road at 853291 & then tramped over rough grass generally W around the corner of Maol Mor. Diagonal ascent to Auchtertyre Hill summit. A beautiful sunny day & a fantastic viewpoint. Well worth the effort.NotReallyABagger15/11/2014

Easily up tracks from Balmacara Square until below the final slopes. Then very steep climb on faint path directly up the prow into shallow rocky gully towards the top - terrific situation. Tenacious heather around summit with no trace of a path. On the return I turned the steeper parts slightly to the South.Chris Peart27/11/2012
fine summit, roughish approach from rd summit to E. RHW19/07/2012
Another short walk of about 3.5 miles round trip to bag this moderate 452m Marilyn. No paths though so rough rocky & heather clad slopes to fight through. We did a short trespass at start of the walk (car park on the A890 at NG848276), went over Maol Beag but skirted round Maol Mor.jonglew15/05/2012
Started from NG8563029650. Faint almost direct path nearly all the way. Far reaching views all round. Great spot to review previous summits on mainland and on Skye etc. Road very quiet because of Stromeferry road closure. Strongly recommended. 5 stars.Martin R12/02/2012
High cloud, dry, calm, good views. No route after forestry track.iangalbraith17/06/2010

Parked on verge. Track to stables over fence to a steep slope with head high bracken. Through swamps on very uneven ground and after 2 or 3 false horizons to upper part of hill giving views ahead. Over wire fence and trudge to top at 12.00. No cairn.arranc04/07/2005
