Logged Descriptions  (logged by 739 users)ByDate of Ascent
From car park just E of Glen Cottage. Ascent via marked footpath. Steep pull up, but mostly well made. Some short scrambling problems but non-technical. The down-scramble from Stob a Choire Laith Mhor is straightforward. The final E ridge to summit more tricky - it's bouldery and quite a lot of soft snow made foot placements uncertain, same on descent. Foggy and I/M showers. Min wind. Warm for Febwychwood18/02/2024
Full east to west traverse with Munro tops, though excluding Northern Pinnacles. Small carpark to west of mapped ascent path. Ascent path obvious, steep and mainly stone surfaced. Once at ridge made short out and back to Eastern Top. Then continued west over delightful ridge with easy scrambling, latterly blocky but many variants over Top to Liathach, Munro with cairn on slabs. Clear grey day with light breeze. Pinnacles approached with caution but no more that YDS2, easy scrambling. There are many variants and bypass paths that you can join and rejoin. There are some harder sections but easy to avoid; route finding is not hard( follow the crampon scratches and smooth holds) but needs thought . The first half is the hardest and the scrambling section is overall short. Thereafter, it’s an obvious grassy path on a superb ridge with great views to second Munro. Good descent track- improved- to road, then 2 km walk back to catDenise 13/09/2023
Stuc a choire dhuibh bhig then over Stob a choire liath mhor to Spidean a choire leith. Over the pinnacles scrambling was fine apart from a couple of sections where I took the wrong line! Am Fasarinen then on to Mullach an Rathain. Took it easy and enjoyed being up high in glorious weather.isabelle03/06/2023
Very very hot and a beautiful blue sky day with a gentle breeze. Took just short of 10 hours. Only regret was that I didn’t set off earlier to miss the heat of the day. Did this east to west and climbed over the An Fasarinen pinnacles grade 2 scramble.Shinydiscoba11z03/06/2023

Third day of five-day trip with DW & SL. Classic Liathach traverse. The scrambling was easier than I expected - principally because it is is essentially ALL avoidable if you want it to be. We had an awesome day - clear weather, no wind across ridge/summits, but it was hazy.AGWilliamson21/09/2014

Chris and me met Rick, Mike W and Burt et al at Torridon Youth Hostel. Foot and mouth in full swing but allowed onto Liatach and Ben Eighe. Ascended at back of Spidean a'Choire Leith climbing on icy rocks. Lots of snow on top but soft. Walked the ridge as far as the gully at Mullach an Rathain (Liathach) - Am Fasarinen where with just a rope and no crampons or ice axe we deemed it too risky. Burt me and Chris retrieted and others went on. Had to abseil down ridge Liathach - Spidean a'Choire Leith as snow had now frozen solid. Descended Toll Maitheach path.Mark T10/04/2001

On a clear but windy day with Shaky via the usual E to W route. Skipped the pinnacles given how windy it was but the traversing route underneath was a bit exposed in places anyway. Knee breaking descent on loose, eroded slippery stuff. Great hill of course but increasingly a victim of its situation & popularity.NotReallyABagger29/04/2000

All the summits on the main ridge of Liathach, climbing on a clear path from just E of Glen Cottage, the descent, after Mullach an Rathain, down Toll Ban. Same route in 1992 as today, though even after 6 years there was notably more erosion. It made the way up little less charming but still ok, the way own pleasanter and easier to follow. Wet snow in 1986 made the quartzite slippery but accumulated enough to give the magnificent cone of this, the highest summit, quite an alpine feel. In 1992 (also in May) when Pete was with me, it was sunny all day and quite warm with an E wind. All summits clear on both visits.pwheeler16/05/1986

East to west traverse of Liathach on last day of year with Mark H. Coated in thin snow with wind, hail and spindrift making for some nasty going. Descent by headtorch as is the norm at this time of year. One of our regular YHS Uni Torridon New Year trips. Day had started with a rushed lift before we were ready-Mark got out in bare feet at roadside and put his socks, gloves and jacket in puddle before we even stated-not a great start.Chris Pearson31/12/1984
