Logged Descriptions  (logged by 323 users)ByDate of Ascent
From Coulags, out-and-back. Sunny spells, cold (especially when not sunny), chilly breeze from NW. First part of hill proper a slabby delight, top half loose and spiky. Visited bothy on way back down. Rounsfell21/07/2023
Solo. Out & back from Coulags via Bealach a' Choire Ghairbh. Poor route-finding from the col, so had to double-back to re-approach. Extremely hot day with no wind; ran low on water until descent below col.millionmts13/08/2022
From Coulags, via the usual route following the stalkers' path to the col. Quarzite slabs fun once you work out the best line, fortunately not wet as the sun had come out, though windy. The upper part of the ridge very steep but no real difficulties. Briefly contemplated adding Maol Chean-Dearg.douglas_easton18/05/2022
Weather fair.MountainMac23/04/2022
Lovely Spring day, Went up to the the left of the main route and utilised some of the slabs for some scrambling. Descent to the north, down by some crags then steeply right, (southish) enabling me to walk under the main face. Amazing place.garbo110320/04/2022
From the bothy to the south made for a short, pleasant day. Not as hard as it looks, no real problems, barely into scrambling category. But very enjoyabledickscroop31/08/2021
d Coulags 9.50am, pleasant run up path at first past excellent bothy, path well-maintained right up into Bh a' Choire Ghairbh, then enjoyable scramble to summit. Overcast at first but became warm and sunny. Descent seemed easy, needed less scrambling, using (remaining one) walking pole to protect R ankle.NorfolkPT2123/08/2021
Great lead up to this majestic hill. Pleased I managed due to all the rock. Fantastic day and so dry under foot. Awesome! With Gmac xelizyanne02/08/2021
With J from Coulags. Rock dry, so slabs were nice and grippy. Loose stuff higher up wasn't so great. Curiously quite windy on way up but almost dead calm on summit. Considered descending by S ridge and then working way round to bealach and would have done had it been wet, but as rock was dry went back down E which wasn't too bad. Fine hill.NotReallyABagger23/05/2021
With Clare & Skye - on a miserable day in July. Post lockdown escape. Spectacular hill. Skye was best amongst us.Scmccabe 20/07/2020

Climbed with Richard from Coulags, somewhat late start after staying at Cluanie Inn with Richard. However, we got back to the bealach well before dark. Windy on top , no snowamcculloch30/12/2019
Wouldn't say south ridge easier than east ridge but definitely much safer - rocky/stony ascent and not as steep as the slabs to the east.carole engel07/09/2019

Fine ascent up south ridge, great hill apart from the summit messalda18/06/2019
From Fuar Tholl. Skirted south of Mainreachan Buttress, then west, initially steep heathery / bouldery descent, then easier long grass. Forded Fionn-abhainn just south of the good path up to Bealach a' Choire Ghairbh. From point 587 it looked very intimidating, but as per the guides the angled slabby rock was straightforward. Steeper with clambering higher up following a rough path. Didn't fancy returning the same way so continued initially south then east to Loch Moin a Chriathair then back to the main valley path, an easier route off the top but pathless lower down. Very good but tiring day.Owen B12/07/2018
From Coulags. Cycled a short distance before deciding I was better off on my feet. Track then path north and west then up steep east ridge, OK at first but a scree scramble higher up. Down easier south ridge, west of minor 750m summit, then east and down to footbridge.Topographer5707/06/2018
Final corbett, with a large group of 10. Some went on to Maol Cheann Dearg, others (including me) opted for a swim in the lochan below the bealach.Grinner01/06/2018
Long walk in from Annat with Steves Smith & Lewis. Steep winter ascent. Ice axes deployed on the descent!jonglew08/02/2018

With ketzster. The slabs were very slippery once it started raining.Yeltzbagger29/09/2017
Steady plod up to bealach and then impressive view of ridge. More straightforward and enjoyable than appeared. Cloud on top. Found intermittent path on descent. Reasonable views in all directions on return.MichaelF13/09/2017
A braw night in the bothy, before doing the Munro/Corbett combo.Robinho0812/05/2017
Glorious sunny dry day with Tom Oldham and Russell. Standard route from Coulags along Fionn-abhain to bealach then stiff bouldery ascent/descent of Maol Chean-dearg. Back to bealach and delightful ascent/ descent of slabby An Rubh Stac. 8 hours.alexmaclennan08/05/2017

From Coulags. Glorious day. What a brilliant hill. Thought I was in the Alps. Wouldn't like to do it in bad weather. Saw a Golden Eagle.ngthack11/04/2016

From Coulags. On own.MorecambeMonkey15/06/2015
I was hoping for perhaps one view but no. Plenty of snow down a real winter expedition and fun finding its summit. A bit of a scary day with conditions. Company: Soloiandesbottes11/02/2015
Done after the Munro. Headed for the western edge of the wee lochan and easily gained the rocky ridge for the summit. Headed south-east across the wild and windy moor back to Coulags.Play2End12/10/2014

Climbed this in combination with the Munro (which was Dave's final Munro; a well-chosen one). What a Corbett! The best I have yet done. Fabulous weather so it showed off its good side. Wow.AGWilliamson18/09/2011

MC JC. A firm favourite this hill. From Coulags on beautiful still day. Past bothy and quick ascent in growing heat to bealach. Entertaining slab bands and loose rock to summit. Excellent photos looking down. Sun burned. 5.5h round.Martin6601/05/2010

From Coulags. Rapid progress on good path, over footbridge, past bothy, past stone to junction and up to bealach. Turned south over quartzite slabby uneven ground to slope of hill. Final 1000' up on slabs, then broken boulders. Left cairnlet to show my access point to final top area. 800m SW to top. 14.30. Skye, Hebrides, B Bhan, B Damph, Vurich, Rum and Eigg (50m).arranc15/07/1996
Solo. From Coulags. Walked up stalkers’ path to col between Maol Chean-dearg and Meall nan Ceapairean. There was much evidence of recent work on the path – nicely done – up to the bothy and a little bit done further on. Ascended the east shoulder to reach the summit of An Ruah-stac. Returned the same way, except for small deviations at col below An Ruadh-stac. Heavy rain before I started, and after I finished. Small amount of rain shortly after I started. Hail storm on ascent of final slopes which are very rocky, especially low down.pwbellarby27/04/1996
