11.5 km loop in 3 hrs 30 mins from Hartsop. Small car park so get there early! Very beautiful hike taking in Hartsop Dodd, Raven Crag, Stony Cove Pike, Caudale Moor, Thornthwaite Crag, incl north top, Gray Crag. So very lucky with excellent weather. The hills were full.Nicky C07/01/2024

From Mardale Head, Rough Crag, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Stony Cove Pike, Hartsop Dodd and down to Hartsop. In the clag and rain almost from the outset - only a view of Brothers Water on the descent from Hartsop Dodd. Slushy snow on High Street. With Gillian. Many thanks to Harriet for the drop off at Mardale and the wet pickup from Hartsop.richard6902/01/2024
The Kentmere Horseshoe from Kentmere in an anticlockwise direction visiting 9 Wainwrights: Shipman Knots, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Mardale Ill Bell, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick. Ill Bell, and Yoke. A fine and partially sunny Boxing Day, with very fine snow showers. Certainly a nice change from heavy rain and storm force winds of recent days! 22km with 1200m ascent, taking 7h 40m.silverwolf_alan26/12/2023

Lunch halt (brief today in the cold blowing cloud). Good wall and the mighty pillar offering shelter. I had 2 small pieces of cardboard as sit mats which worked well as everything damp - what a difference from a month ago when we were up here in the heatwave. Today around the Kentmere Horseshoe with L- who had been in bed with flu a week ago so a good recovery!Chris Pearson02/10/2023

From Froswick with L after a sweltering ascent in the heatwave of our favourite climb - 500m straight up the steep lonely east ridge of Ill Bell from Kentmere Reservoir. Lunch in the calm still sun here was delightful then High Street before wonderfully off-piste straight down through the crags at the Head of Kentmere to visit the source of the R Kent and its upper course where we skinny dipped to cool off in one of its many pools -delightful in this rare Sept heatwave.Chris Pearson05/09/2023

Circular hike around the head of Mardale. From the car park at the head of Haweswater, up to Gatesgarth Pass, then past Little Harter Fell to Harter Fell, down to Nan Bield Pass, and up to Mardale Ill Bell. Then across to Thornthwaite Crag, and back along the broad track to the trig on High Street, before dropping down to the Straits of Riggindale. From here visiting The Knott, Rampsgill Head, Kidsty Pike, and High Raise in quick succession. Found a new way down via Low Raise, and the SE Ridge to Haweswater, taking in Castle Crag for the first time with its fine view along the way.
