Sour Howes and Sallows | P333ebz | 07/04/2024 |
Walk from Windermere to track to west. A ladder gate stile just before a little wood east of the top gives access to the access land. A well worn path then leads up to a stile over the next wall and up to the summits. | mart0797 | 26/01/2024 |

From Troutbeck Bridge - Sour Howes, Sallows, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Troutbeck Tongue. With R. On good path for pretty much the entire walk. | Dan Baddeley | 06/01/2024 |
Parked at Church Bridge below Troutbeck, then straight up to Sour Howes, north along the ridge to Sallows, and back down to Church Bridge along the Garburn Road. Then up the other side through Troutbeck and along Nanny Lane to Wansfell Pike - busy. North along the ridge to both summits at Baystones. Continued north down to the A592, then across tough ground to Troutbeck Tongue, before dropping steeply down into the valley and back to Troutbeck. All the ground is saturated - especially the section from Wansfell to Troutbeck Tongue! 22km with nearly 1200m ascent, taking me 8 hours, just in the daylight throughout! | silverwolf_alan | 01/01/2024 |
3pm and sat comfortably looking at the view of this fell from our cottage at Troutbeck. Had already run up Wansfell Pike this morning in light rain and was now comfortably dry again and fed. However the mist lifted and rain stopped so out again for another run -steeply up from Limefitt Chalet Park up to the top and back -managed to run half up way until calf twinge made a walk more sensible. Damp drizzly misty and yuk on top. Jogged down same way in no time. Streams crossing the lower slanting stony footpaths and overflowed and we running down the whole length of the footpaths making them unpleasantly wet- some minor leaf clearing and gravel reengineering soon had the streams resume their correct course onwards off the paths. | Chris Pearson | 19/11/2023 |
Up from Troutbeck and then on to Sallows | jeffpl | 17/11/2023 |
From Troutbeck Bridge: Sour Howes, Sallows, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Troutbeck Tongue, then a rather rough and tiresome fight across to Baystones before dropping back to Troutbeck. 21km, 5h 50. Stunningly clear and cold. | Rockdoctor | 15/10/2023 |
Another solo training run from Troutbeck as yesterday, but today climbed up on the good path with stiles through the NT parcel of fellside from Garburn. Sweaty work but strong cold wind on top -needed cag and hat on for non stop jog to Sallows. Mushy swampy bog patches - sodden feet - didn't matter as my fell shoes still sodden from yesterday. For the first time I left written (not verbal) details of my route with L having read a mountain rescuer report urging this, as if you have a mishap the search dogs WILL find you, and it puts lesser risk/ time on he rescuers if they know your plan, as well as less worry on loved ones. Heartbreak report of a young girl shouting at the mountains: 'Daddy - Where are you?' | Chris Pearson | 28/09/2023 |
Straight up the steep fellside all the way from Limefit Park, finding a very overgrown stile to gain the access land. Calm before the storm as Storm Agnes due this afternoon with the met office fell top forecast predicting mobility on the fell tops becoming impossible and driving rain which will drench clothing even through waterproofs -leading to a high risk of hypothermia, as it will be too difficult to even put on spare clothing! Cheerful thoughts as I laboured upwards for my 2 hr + OMM training run from Troutbeck cottage which looks across to this fellside. Rain began at noon with spot on accuracy and wind increased. Fully waterproofed up for a walk/ jog out to Capel Howe then back round following the curving wall on good peaty path to Sallows. Fells deserted as everyone warned this storm could be a bruiser. Even the low flying jets had been out early today to skim up the valley and past our window whilst the weather behaved. Down via the slanting stony Garburn Road (track) | Chris Pearson | 27/09/2023 |

Up Borrans La and more or less the Wainwright route, now on access land except a bit on high pastures. The juniper has all gone in the 60 yrs since the Far E Fells was penned but the waterfall is still a charming spot, esp for the views. ATV up from there, then pathless, then lots of trods on the summit area and an obvious path, with stile, to Sallows. Fine, clear day- still low cloud base on Pennines. | pwheeler | 04/03/2022 |
