With M. 6th stunning day in a row. 2nd ascent, only disappointment from last time was the wind farms, renewable energy is essential but wind farms here do detract from the landscape. From Sherramore. Watched two deer cross the Spey as I crossed the bridge. By tracks great and small through the woodland to Meall and Domhnaich, then enjoyably along the ridge to Beinn Sgiath (the summit cairn is surprisingly difficult to find as broad, diverging slopes conceal it until quite close) and Geal Charn. An ATV track makes for a quick return to Sherramore.Nick Down104/08/2018
From Garva Bridge (NN 52218 94730). Followed path alongside Feith Talagain then alongside Allt Coire nan Dearcag for a short distance before heading up the broad ridge to the summit plateau. Path indistinct at times.david23020110/07/2018

I had been deliberating for a long while over whether i had climbed this Munro back in the 70's or 80's, Therefore i refused to tick it until certain. Ascended from Garva Bridge where i had slept in the camper overnight. Dry but clagged in on the summit. Still none the wiser re: its legitimate date for ascent but at least its officially done now.thenomad06/10/2015

With Pam and Gary; Munro #50 for me. Lots of snow; lovely weather. Went up from Spey Dam - there is a brand new bridge low down over the Markie Burn. Saw An Dirc Mhor (impressive rift valley left by ancient landslip) then bypassed summit of sub-top Beinn Sgiath to reach Geal Charn summit. Back down by craggy eastern corrie, fording Markie Burn high up. Surprisingly scenic - better than Garva Bridge or Sherramore approaches.milngavie_kenny02/12/2012
266th - Solo - took school bus from hotel in Newtonmore to Laggan, walked up Glen Markie and over Bruach nam Biodag to summit. V. cold but dry day, poor visibility above 750m, met stalkers on descent.RGibbs14/11/2012

Like most, I did this Munro on its own from Crathie. Adding Beinn Sgiath (qv) and Allt Uaine made a pleasant and interesting walk. My brother and I set out to do this a few years back- then, we gave up in disgust at the weather, drove S, and watched Ospreys at Loch of the Lowes. There is always good wildlife on these hills. The day my brother bagged it I stayed with Mom- we found intersting moths at Ralia and I saw a Black Grouse at Phones Moor.pwheeler31/03/2003

As it was a scorching hot day, a 12 noon start for a Munro was not smart. I left the bridge below the Spey dam by mountain bike. I struggled up Glen Markie, pushing more than pedalling. I chained the bike to a fence before reaching the Piper Burn and continued on foot. I cooled my wrists in the Piper Burn and started a wet handkerchief for mopping my brow and neck. The sheep track path up the Piper Burn was a nice steady gradient and I was able to establish a sensible rhythm and make ground. Traces of a track continued into the base of the corrie wall. I struggled up the corrie wall – more a result of fly and heat problem than as a result of a stiff climb. I was now using my handkerchief in the style of French Foreign Legion headwear. I thought I had reached the summit but the cairn was very small compared to huge finely built cairn mentioned in the Munro guidebook – this was clearly a false summit. I continued over gradual rising ground to the true summit where there was a huge cairn.langskill09/08/1995

Cairngorm Club Roy Bridge meet - with Willie Robb. We departed from the road near Spey Dam with wet snow on the ground and snowing. We followed the track up Glen Markie, then beside Piper’s Burn to Lochan a’ Choire. There was much snow, chest deep and soft in places. We went up the window and so to the summit of Geal Charn. The descent was via the southern slopes, through forest and, with difficulty, across Markie Burn. There were snow showers earlier on. Wind was light and visibility variable.pwbellarby03/05/1982
