First of the 5 Fannichs | ainzwils | 29/08/2020 |
A long day back up in the NW highlands with John and wee Islay hitting up the Eastern Fannichs - four munros (and 2 tops) over 16.5miles, and 1450m / 4750ft of ascent in just a smidge under 8 hours, followed by a 4.5hr drive home (with John handling the driving this time). The forecast was for clear visibility, but we ended up in the clouds for most of it, with strong winds resulting in -3C wind chill.. Winter is coming! | mproudfoot | 29/08/2020 |
I had planned on doing the 4 eastern Munros of the Fannichs range of hills near Ullapool. But the weather had my body had other ideas.
Started early around 07:30, suitably welcomed by the midgies from the car all the way round for the full day as there was barely any wind all day. Had to wear a jacket and hood on the two munros in a daft attempt to shield from the buggers.
I progressed along the forestry then ATV track up onto Creag Dhubh Fannaich then Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich (954m), the days first Munro. The views east toward Ben Wyvis and north to Am Faochagach (yesterday's hill) were incredible with the low mist, the hills looked like islands in a sea of cloud.
Sgurr Mor (1108m) was the days second Munro and final, as I had ran out of water as I ascended to the Munro Top of Meall nan Peithirean (971m). With the heat I had drunk 3L and was only 1/2 round the planned route. Plus I was ill (vomited for the 1st time on a hike) I suspect due to dehydration while decending Sgurr Mor | chillyman8 | 15/08/2020 |

Loop of the 4 eastern Fannichs. Weather started off promising but spent day in the clag above 800m. Long boggy walk out to car. | cjo | 04/10/2019 |

With JW. From West end of Loch Glascarnoch, up Abhainn an Torrain Duibh to Creag Dhubh Fannaich, Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, Sgurr Mor, Meall Gorm, An Coileachan. Long descent with painful knee but good views! | robertgn | 08/01/2019 |
Climbed solo from A835 west of Loch Glascarnoch. Followed path on the West Bank of the Abhainn an Torrain Duibh (not marked on map). Ignore the track through the forest. Continue alongside Abhainn a Ghiuthais Li as far as the footbridge (also unmarked) at 252712. Ascended Meallan Buidhe (skirted summit), An Coileachan, Meall Gorm SE top and main top, Meall nam Peithirean, Sgurr Mor, Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich. Return via Craig Dhubh Fannaich (summit skirted) and back alongside outward route. Excellent conditions. Fine walk but long and rough walk in/out. Luckily very dry conditions - bogs would hinder progress. | jamessteel100 | 24/07/2018 |

Great summit with a dizzying drop off the east face. From Braemore junction following a nice traverse path leading to the Meall a Crasgaidh bealach overlooking Loch a Mhadaidh and the cliffs hanging above it. | cumbria mammoth | 21/04/2017 |

Drove from Annan to Loch a' Bhraoion to deposit a bike; returned to Loch Glascarnoch before setting off on an overnight expedition: An Coileachan, Meal Gorm, Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich and Sgurr Mhor. Camped just below the summit, pitching the tent as darkness fell. | jigglybones | 25/08/2015 |

Sunny but coldish. went light weight to bag these 4 Munros quickly.Long walk in and out over rough, wet ground. As per typical, cloud came down on this impressive Munro just as I neared the final approach and lifted as I left. | Jhimmy | 09/07/2015 |
From Lochdrum a round of Carn na Criche, Sgurr Mor, Meall nam Peithirean and Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich. | rhalstead | 28/06/2015 |
From the last munro, BLMF, I headed south west along the ridge into the murk and got confused. The minor top (212717) is not the summit! As it cleared I saw my error and headed for Sgurr Mor. Now a lovely clear sunny day! | Play2End | 14/09/2014 |
4th of 7. Can't recall much other than there wasn't much in the way of visibility and anyone thinking of tackling these as a 7 or 9....they're big hills, and it's a lot of ascent! | bowzi | 14/06/2014 |

Fannichs route; mostly with Richard and Allan but split off from them after Sgurr Mor and headed North over Beinn Liath Mor Fannaich and down to A835 by the dam, whilst they proceeded to add the final 2 munros. Meanwhile I hitchiked to A832 to fetch car! | jonbowyer | 18/08/2010 |
209th - Allan and Jon, from N on A832 (6km from Braemore Junction), overcast with patchy rain. Started out as a 5 bag, but extended to an epic 13hr day to complete all 9 of the Fannichs from W to E. | RGibbs | 18/08/2010 |
