From the hostel, north on road to the ford then a direct line over rough ground. On to Carnan Mora, Meall nan Uan, Meall na h-Iolaire and return to the ford keeping more SE of the outward track. Tougher walk than expected. Probably around 13km. | jonglew | 12/09/2022 |
1/3 Parked bike at col of the road, then walked down to the Causeway, crossed and slogged up to the top of Carn Loch Fada and worked our way over to Meall Eatharna which is at the mouth of the estuary, all very tiring work but at least dry shod. Then a more pleasant stroll back by the shore past the cottage which inspired the Katie Morag Books, and back over causeway, then found the energy to do this last hill at Carnan Mora which was again fairly sapping on the legs. Last hill of the holiday and only one got away (Cnocan na Ban). So we will have to come back and it will be a pleasure. | nickywood1 | 23/04/2022 |
Crossed at the top of the inlet on a wall-like causeway, which seemd to be crossable most of the time. Followed an ATV track onto higher ground, then tried to keep to more rocky ground out of the bogs. Good views from the summit. Carried on towards Meall Eatharna. | LizH | 24/08/2019 |
Across boggy and broken ground from M Ethearna, then equally boggy and rough to cross the inlet slightly N of the big white house. | Thearlaichdubh | 01/09/2018 |
After Meall Eatharna. Across fence at NM 227581, then to corner at NM 229586. Fence recently doubled, but old fence down here, so easier to cross. New fence running east-west a bit south of Loch Fada, but Heath Robinson stile at about NM 228591. Over top with 70m contour, round south end of loch, and up to trig. View more extensive: South Uist, Barra, and Jura all visible (just) to naked eye. Back to Heath Robinson stile, through gate just to north, and almost straight down to head of Loch Eatharna, with occasional faint LRT. Across on top of dyke at NM 224582 and up to road, making for A’ Chròic. | mainnirnamfiadh | 01/06/2016 |
