Parked by hotel then directly across the mud half an hour before low water.Awkward tussle with bracken, brambles and trees, the paths to the top. Exit south to lighthouse then over to Druim Ban | Colin Crawford | 16/09/2023 |
Started at NG 7013 1229 just after 10 am for an 11:27 low tide and came back just after noon when the tide was lower than my first crossing. Great to visit the lighthouse on the nearby tidal island. | Dugswell2 | 31/05/2023 |
Parked at hotel, accessed shore there, also a shore access path from NG 7013 1229. Crossed 30mins after low water, back an hour later. Mapped track is wide grassy and mown, with network of paths above it, giving access to the open summit area. Getting from track to lighthouse Squib less easy, then easily back along shore. Calm morning, just enough breeze to keep midges away | RHW | 25/05/2023 |
Parked by large old wooden boat, R of hotel. Followed shore round the bay, keeping out of the mud. There is no need to go into anyone's garden causing conflict. Access is easy to the causeway. Crossed easily, but on return 40 mins later it was knee deep. Had to climb 6' fence near generators, and crossed a mown grassy track, before finding a path in trees which led to summit. | Minto | 24/05/2023 |
Best to go at low tide with wellies and take a direct line across mud from hotel thereby avoiding any conflict with private house owners. And not recommended in summer due to thick brambles. | AndrewFinnimore | 01/03/2022 |
Continuation from Druim Ban. Through bracken to the crossing, along the shore towards the lighthouse, and up to the summit, enjoying the view from the bench. Crossed dryshod and followed a faint path along the bay opposite the hotel, only to get my comeuppance in mud trying not to cut across gardens while crossing the head of the bay. | Nick Down1 | 27/05/2019 |
On trip organised by Sarah and Bob Kerr and made possible by North Coast Sea Tours. Beautiful island and lighthouse. | Thearlaichdubh | 27/04/2019 |
from Isle Ornsay hotel at low time tramp through the seaweed and up the SE side of the island and back down through some of the formal plantings outside the fencing of the private house. | vegibagger | 07/06/2017 |
I nipped up here briefly after visiting the lighthouse on Eilean Sionnach with Sarah and Seumas. We got the tidal timing right (just) - the tide was beginning to come in and the mud was getting more interesting on the return journey. | assynt_bob | 27/03/2016 |

With Mrs G. Parked at pier by Hotel Eilean Iarmain; walked around shoreline to Ornsay island; followed deer fence for short distance then up to high point. Continued on to Eilean Sionnach and lighthouse. Druim Ban on return. | jonglew | 17/05/2015 |
With Druim Ban. | jimbloomer | 03/05/2015 |
Awkward to reach causeway due to private gardens and / or mud ,best to follow N shore of Ard Ghunel but once there no problem. Signs asking visitors to respect owners privacy , no one about. Much tree planting has taken place. Nice summit. Also visited Lighthouse on adjoining tidal islet. | chalky1953 | 04/04/2014 |
