4/8 reached by an off piste 2.5km traverse across rough moorland from SW top of Beinn Ghlas which gives its name to the windfarm up here -the 1st to be built in Scotland in 1999 with plans now to upgrade to bigger turbines. There is an unexpected substantial art tourist attraction near one of the turbines - a new Sheiling Landmark reflecting the play -Diedre of the Sorrows comemorating the bond between Ireland and Scotland and love, betrayal and loss. Funded by the wind farm as part of it community initiatives. It cant get many (any?) visitors as its a 3 mile uphill walk on the windfarm track then back again -driving up not allowed - although the 100 plus dignitaries who opened and blessed it gave themselves permission to come up by minibuses. Speedy jog down track to the control building - busy with staff -one popped out of a door at the bottom of a turbine -like Windy Miller used to do, just being missed by the blades, and he never wore a hard hat or hi vis jacket. | Chris Pearson | 09/11/2023 |
Up windfarm track for a look at Deirdes Sheiling then across moor to 02 mast and Beinn Ghlas. | daviemore | 11/06/2023 |
Via the Beinn Ghlas Windfarm. The monument for Deirdre of the Sorrows is worth a visit, with spectacular views to Loch Etive. | DavieRuts | 28/12/2021 |
6th top of 15 on an epic circuit from the Taychreggan hotel climbing Casteal Suidhe Cheannaidh, Casteal Achadh na Craoibhe, Cruach Airdeny South top, Cruach Airdeny and Cruach Mheadhonach, climbing upto wind turbine track then over rough ground to the outcrop, recording 464m @ NM 97479 25792. The other outcrop looked just as high (annoyingly) so i made my way back over to it (160m away, 327 deg bearing) and recorded 465m @NM 97401 25932 . Onwards to Beinn Ghlas East top.. | Dazingdale | 06/05/2019 |

After Cruach Meadhonach. Service road for Beinn Ghlas wind farm up to highest turbine, then short distance across grass and heather (faint path) to summit. A rocky point (càrn) to the north looks more imposing and suitable for a goat (gaibhre), but the OS says it's lower. Sun a little stronger. View extensive - Beinn Ime, Beinn Laoigh, Cruachan (of course), Bidean nam Bian, and some faint grey lumps on the far northern horizon too vague to identify, but well beyond Fort William. Back down road to Glen Lonan and via Balindore to Taynuilt. | mainnirnamfiadh | 12/10/2016 |
